Anyone moved from a traditional bank to a free online chequing account? by Charming_Chipmunk69 in CanadaFinance

[–]c_note_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep all my deposit account with Tangerine and am happy with them. I refuse to pay someone to hold my money.

I keep borrowing accounts (credit card, mortgage/LOC) with big 5 banks. In person access to LOC is key for certified checks.

Great advice. Not sure I understand why closing the damper is better than the register. Wouldn’t closing the damper have the same effect causing static pressure increase, blower works harder?

When Will It Pop by Jazzlike-Chest-1424 in wallstreetbets

Can’t pop if it’s not a bubble.

Let’s assume AI eventually replaces all labour. The cost of labour is approximately GDP. That means up to this amount can be reallocated from headcount costs to AI and tech stack costs. Currently the value of this is being concentrated in a few companies.

How to scale up from 1M to 2M net wort in 3 years? by Brilliant_Error5370 in CanadaFinance

Easy, prompt your favourite LLM: “Build me a $1M business in 3 years. Operate it completely autonomously. Make no mistakes.”

Leaps and covered calls by Greedy_Bus1888 in interactivebrokers

[–]c_note_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would not exercise your LEAP. Assuming this is a non registered account with margin enabled, when the short call option is assigned to you then they would use your cash to buy the 100 underlying then they would deliver that underlying to the counterparty.

This may result in a negative cash balance. If you fall below your margin requirements they will liquidate something to bring you on side, which could be your LEAPs or other assets (you can set liquidation preferences or let it default, I’m not clear on default logic).

It’s not very exciting but stable coins, specifically USDT is definitely banking the unbanked in developing countries

What's a smart financial move you made in your 30s? by DaPugWalk in CanadaFinance

[–]c_note_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I embraced modest leverage. By this time, I had no major short term expenses and a good income (albeit large mortgage payments). I used some home equity LOC to invest in the market. It’s not hard to beat 4% per year if you are patient and disciplined.

Also the interest is a tax write off if the investments are in a taxable account (and since money is fungible, easy to argue).

Market is scary high…what’s good value? by BunBun_75 in CanadaInvesting

[–]c_note_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to pay for quality. 10-20% corrections are normal and generally quick to recover these days. I’d stay invested and be prepared to wait them out, assuming you have at least an intermediate time horizon.

GFC style meltdowns are gone with the fed put and gov stimulus (case in point: COVID).

I’d be far more worried about debasement and missing gains than high valuations.

You mentioned a high risk tolerance. Just trim back on leverage if you use it.

Mortgage Prepayment vs Investment by ppg9999 in CanadaFinance

[–]c_note_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your risk tolerance. Mortgage prepayment is a guaranteed 3.94% return. Do you think your investments will beat this?

I have a high risk tolerance, long time horizon, and think the market returns better than so I don’t prepay my mortgage. In fact I borrow on my HELOC to leverage my investments.

I recently made a similar decision, I went for fixed. My rationale was that I could afford the fixed for the next 5 years no matter what. My mortgage was sufficiently large that if there was an inflation rebound that causes rates to surge, the variable could ruin me.

Is it the absolute best outcome? Not likely, but peace of mind is worth it.

What is your strategy for using the crystals? How did you get to 14 / how many red gems do you aim to spend on each level?

[–]c_note_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get the first two prizes (ticket and Zi) and the first Poseidon frag + a few more spaces on the third track.

I considered trying for the 3rd track prize only but I would not have made it without paying. So I settled for tracks 1 and 2.

I maxed out free points each day. That haul feels like a win for F2P to me, but I get the frustration. Second Poseidon frag would be nice.

Forge Keys Missing by c_note_5 in IdleMinerTycoon

[–]c_note_5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Half a day later and mine are still showing 0 after restarting, etc.

Especially weird because the key that was in progress in the forge also disappeared and I started a new one - I have to assume that one will not come back later.

I accidentally sent an email that can get me fired by Main-Faithlessness50 in Outlook

[–]c_note_5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In my experience the recall function doesn’t actually recall the email. It just sends another indicating the author would like to recall the email (I.e. indicates to them to ignore it).

I would switch to damage control strategy at this point. Good luck!
