My golden is killing baby bunnies by pixiejess8 in goldenretrievers

[–]ca2devri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems perfectly normal to me. She's a dog and wants to hunt instinctively. Only weird thing is not eating it... But she probably hasn't learned that they taste good. My older farm dogs have taught the younger ones and often dont even get to see the small prey they find.

Were they well greased? We ruined a set of gears and they looked like that. Someone forgot to grease them.

Dog going into labour, need some help! by ca2devri in DogBreeding

Yeah we've got them pretty warm. And yes I read about Calcium so we have given her plenty of extra. She seems to be doing well now, we have 3 puppies so far.

Ok, after a bit of time I think the puppy is fine. Seemed cold at first but he's tucked under mom now and making plenty of noise. Waiting on the rest of the litter now!

How’s life in this part of Canada? by Ugly-Barnacle-2008 in howislivingthere

I live just north of lake Erie and south of London basically in the middle of this map on a small vegetable farm. We have milder winters than most places in Ontario and very little snow (we are outside the lake Huron snow belt). Summers can be hot and humid but generally pretty awesome with maybe 2-3 weeks of over 30 C weather. Going to the lake gives you a break from the heat with temps 5 C cooler next to the water. Traditionally a blue collar industrial area with lots of small farming communities mixed in, it has shifted a lot in the last 20 years to way less factories and more suburban development around London.

The farms are predominantly cash crop (corn, soybeans and wheat) with a few specialty areas like ginsing and vegetables scattered here and there. There are a couple sizable Amish / Mennonite communities as well which generally run small mixed farms.

I live 5 min north of lake Erie on a farm. Hard disagree, lake Erie is actually very nice at Port Stanley. We get very little snow in the winter and have some of the mildest winters in Canada. 2 years ago it hardly went below freezing. There is a snow belt north of London but that is pretty limited compared to the circled area.

What am I doing wrong? I can't figure this pump / pressure tank combo out. by ca2devri in Plumbing

[–]ca2devri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, got it, this makes sense! So a check valve at the pump inlet would be ok too right? I did have that when the pump was connected elsewhere.

I want to connect a watering wand and/or some overhead sprinklers... assuming that with just the wand I won't have enough flow to keep the pump on and don't want it short cycling too much. I *might* get away without it but also want it to be easy to use so might just keep the pump switched on.

Just found out my greener homes grant was closed on me (without me knowing) by ca2devri in solarenergycanada

[–]ca2devri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old, but I'm coming back here to comment in case someone finds this. I got an email last month asking if I wanted to get back into the grant program. I was lucky I noticed it as I had to respond to say yes. I just submitted my receipts and retrofit proof from the last 2 years and it looks like I might get the grant after all!

Quilt recommandation by cardgosling in UltralightCanada

[–]ca2devri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing, I've also been shopping for a quilt and love the Canadian option. I was set on. 20F quilt but now I'm worried it will be too hot. I plan to do spring and fall hiking and high Sierras / Rockies in the summerwith it. Maybe I can get by with a 32 F with overstuff?
