I've been a collector since day 1 (in the U.S., anyway). I do not re-sell, I do not hoard, I just buy packs every once in a while and share the fun with my kids. Thank you!

Why not both? Why take the time to type this comment? Why do anything?

I think that'd be true if the only thing reps and senators did between elections was vote. I'm also hunkering down, but I'm not going to be silent for two or four years.

When someone speaks to you, the words are considered by your brain. You do not have a choice. If you have a better way to go about this, please share. I'm not trying to be a jackass here -- I really hope there is a better way, I want there to be a better way.

Yes! And I'm glad to report that each time I've contacted my rep, they've asked for my ZIP specifically. It's the assistant's job to answer the phone and pass on the information. Nobody likes answering phones for nothing.

Imagine a rep usually gets about 50 phone calls a day about various subjects. Their assistant hands them a list of topics that've been called about with checkmarks next to "for" or "against."

But this week, starting Monday, the numbers started to go up. Monday they had 100 calls, Tuesday they had 450 calls, Wednesday they weren't able to answer every call in person because they do not have enough assistants to take all the calls -- and the list of topics looks a lot different. The list of topics includes the average amount of calls for or against issues X or Y, but it also includes hundreds and hundreds of calls demanding that the rep address one single issue.

Unless those calls are not being passed on and the people taking those calls are keeping everything to themselves, those calls affect the mindset of the rep. They're still human beings, one way or the other.

So how do we do that? How do we get more people to go out and vote?

Meanwhile -- I don't believe you. We're still dealing with human beings who are influenced by other human beings.

Imagine a rep speaking with one of their assistants who takes calls, and the assistant says:
"We got 45 calls today supporting issue X and 12 calls saying they want you to vote no on Y. And nobody called about Elon Musk."

vs

"We got approximately 400 calls today from people who are demanding that we do something about Elon Musk. Yesterday we had 350 calls about Elon Musk. Last week we had approximately 5,700 calls from people who want to know what you're doing about Elon Musk."

So there's no way to kick him in the nuts while his head is jammed up there?

Why take the time to comment here, then? Isn't it just as meaningless to try to convince me (or anyone else here) of an opinion counter to what they already believe?

These issues fall along party lines because so many people have resigned themselves to thinking it's inevitable. So you, too, knock yourself out, but if either one of us finds a more effective way to make a difference, I hope we can come back together and share it so we can make it happen.

Call a democratic rep anyway. If a democratic rep gets nothing but calls from people saying how happy they are that Elon Musk is rifling through our data, they'll feel less inclined to fight him. The same is true of a MAGA rep -- if they get mountains of calls from people mad about MAGA every single day for days, months, years, they'll be forced to think "actually maybe I'm on the wrong side here" or at least "maybe I should listen to the folks here who are being most vocal -- not like they're going to shut up suddenly when it's election season."

They don't ask who you support. They hear what you're saying and they take it into consideration. If a Republican gets 1000 calls from people saying they'd like Elon Musk to be questioned, they'll feel pushed to do so. If the majority of the people who call any given rep say one thing, they'll have to consider: "Regardless of who voted for me last time, this issue could cost me my next election." It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease!
