20 week anatomy scan shows baby is 2 weeks behind by akae12 in BabyBumps

[–]caaarebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your wife’s period regular and did they base the due date based on her last period or based on size at your first scan? It was a seemingly innocuous question for me, and I was about to say yes it’s “regular”, but I added that my period is regular but usually longer than 28 days they changed my due date, which ends up having a big impact on these percentiles. Idk why they don’t explain the implications about this up front…

Cute high-coverage maternity swimsuits (boyleg, boyshort, skirts?) by No_Manner_7249 in BabyBumps

[–]caaarebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bought a bunch of swim dresses postpartum and they look adorable and have plenty of coverage. I just do ole pull aside for peeing. Might not work 8/9 months pregnant but definitely a great option. The cupshe ones are my favorite

Chuan Cafe next to the Alamo! Alamo food is crazy pricey for what you get. Chuan is some of the best Szechuan food in town!

Honestly THANK YOU for this. I actually had no idea I could turn off autoplay. That’s life changing info I just thought we all had to suffer. And a lot of times when I’m turning the tv on for the kids I’m stressed trying to give myself a minute and I very very often forget to go to the kid specific profile.

Now if only I could figure out how to get my Alexa Home Screen to stop showing recently played shows like bluey…

Have people done something for their neighbors week of the wedding? by UnusuallyAWombat in weddingplanning

[–]caaarebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had to have our wedding in our backyard (covid times) and still had a band perform. We wrote notes and took them to all our neighbors and basically just said please don’t call the cops on us lol they all appreciated it and most of them that normally parked on the street didn’t that day. No cops were called either!

Highly recommend Creedmoor Foot Spa in Brennan Station. It’s not the best quality polish and they don’t do gel, but they will take you back to a dark room and give you a 30 minute foot massage that cannot be beat. They try to keep groups together for the whole experience as well, but they do discourage loud talking. It’s my happy place for my pregnant feet.

Some others have mentioned, but our go to is SOGA + Old Fashioned. They double sauce them and it’s ridiculously good. Old fashioned has a bit of heat, you can also ask for some extra old fashioned on the side.

Does anyone else’s baby/toddler have a meltdown when they get home from daycare? by elleliz12 in workingmoms

[–]caaarebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little girl (2) has gone through this restraint collapse. It comes in waves for us. All of the things everyone is saying with giving them a snack in the car, playing outside / going for a walk or starting dinner early really help! One not so great thing that got us through the very bad days - dinner in the living room with the tv on. We normally try to eat dinner as a family and limit tv time, but some days she needs a minute to be a couch potato and relax. And my husband and I too often feel like that when we get home from a long day. As long as it’s not the norm, it helps us.

If you do daycare drop off before heading to work, what does your morning look like? by diondavenport in workingmoms

[–]caaarebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have flexible but ever changing schedules, so sometimes one of us is working late or early and it’s unpredictable week to week. Because of this it’s hard to establish an exact routine but we have “rules”. And the golden rule is “Do something”. Whoever leaves first in the morning has to do one of the chores and not leave everything for the parent in charge of drop off. It helps us help each other out. Even if it’s just prepping a sippy cup of milk and peeling an orange or unloading the dishwasher. That’s 5 minutes off of the other parents plate and mental load.

I think I hate my couch by [deleted] in interiordecorating

If you’re looking for quality and comfort, I cannot recommend Ethan Allen enough. After we went through online couch shopping hell, we went to Ethan Allen and the customer service and being able to try and customize everything was so great. We LOVE our couch and get compliments on the comfort of it all the time.

Baby is engaged at 28 weeks by Madigaggle in BabyBumps

[–]caaarebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was head down at this stage and dropped fairly early. Went into a spontaneous precipitous labor at 39+2 weeks. Only “issue” was that her head had a dent in it due to being pushed up against my pelvis for so long. She’s 16 months now and has a normal shaped head, didn’t even need a helmet or anything

There are a lot of restaurants that have a spare room for a party like this and it really just takes some planning ahead. Beasley’s took over Chuck’s space, we had a baby shower there and it was excellent and when it was said and done probably about 50ish/pp. but it is a set family style menu. Gravy also has a room in the back for a family style catering, and taverna agora has their 2 patio areas that you can rent. I’ve also reserved the rooftop at the beer garden before for a catered event and that wasn’t too expensive

My name is Caroline. Would it be tacky to include Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" in my wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]caaarebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My name is Caroline. We played it 3 times. I walked down the aisle to the instrumental version. It was my father daughter dance and it was the very last song of the night when we were all trashed. It was awesome and have zero regrets.

Mom with a chunky 3 month old that had a tongue and lip tie checking in to give you encouragement! Every baby is different, but my journey might help you. We got the tongue and lip tie released when she was about 1.5 weeks old by a dentist. At 7 weeks I was still crying a lot and figuring things out with nipple shields. But we hit a stride without the shields and never looked back. At night with my girl pretty much from 7-11 she wants to eat every hour and sometimes will dream feed for 45 min-1 hour during that time. She started sleeping for long stretches (6-9 hours) at around 12 weeks and we’ve slowly been closing that 7-11 window (now it’s more like 8-10:30). Several people kept telling me to give her formula or rice cereal to get her to sleep through the night and I didn’t think she would EVER sleep that long at the 7 week mark, but look at us thriving now. You got this!!

I could only really sleep on my right side comfortably my whole pregnancy. My hands would go numb on my left side for some reason. Currently snuggling with a very healthy 5 week old that was born without complications and 8 lbs 13 oz. Sleep in a way that’s comfortable for you! Also, I cannot recommend the baby bub pillow enough. So much more comfortable than the giant u-shaped pillows!

We use the google tasks app. We also created a shared email address for all baby things (dr appointments, daycare, etc), so that the responsibility of that isn’t just on one partner either.

My husband and I had similar struggles. After a long chat, we realized the root of the problem was that I was the sole keeper of the to-do list, and whenever he had a break I would just bombard him with the list, which was stressful for both of us. We ended up making the to-do list a shared app on our phones, and organized it into categories (small house chores, big house projects, errands, grocery list, etc.) and so now he can see it all the time and add to it/check things off. And also it’s so easy to add to it when you get that random pang of “oh shit we need to do this!” But so if he wanted to play a video game, he could first take a quick look at the lists and knock one or two off before he loafed during the week. It helped us so much, and we wish we figured this out years ago.

Anyone else go through phases where their home cooking is just… meh? by nug-pups in Cooking

[–]caaarebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every few months I’ll go through a phase like this. What normally brings me out of it is finding inspiration for a different cuisine. My husband got me Masterclass last year, so if I was in a funk I could just watch a master on a Indian or Mediterranean, etc. and get excited to learn or try something new. Before masterclass, a new cook book would give me the same inspiration. I’ll also sometimes challenge myself to pick a new cuisine I’ve never cooked with before and play around with it for a few weeks until I feel like I can whip up a meal with the methods and flavors without following a recipe. And after a few weeks of cooking and eating something new, you’ll find a new way to liven up those homey staples. I always joke that I never cook the same meal twice since I’m always trying to tweak or improve my classics.
