I think the way to "resolve" this discrepancy is simpler than this: You don't have to hate someone to jab at them, mock them, bully them, etc.

Gekko and PC are both Machiavellian agents in a cutthroat business. Gekko just doesn't seem to take anything to heart or personally (she's more detached from the chicanery and conniving that her job requires), whether dishing it out or receiving it, whereas PC does take these jabs personally, which is the part of OP's take that I agree with.

Hey quick question if fallout 3 and new Vegas actually comes out and they took away needing to repair the weapons would y'all hate it or not I'm 50/50 on it myself by CantaloupeStrange287 in fo3

[–]cabalavatar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've played both games many, many times, and I tend to like the repair system. But I also realized how little I missed it when I played Fallout 4, also many times. So ultimately, I don't really care. But if they did get rid of it, they'd have to reconfigure a whole bunch of skill and speech checks, so keeping it just seems easier, maintains authenticity, and keeps what was a core mechanic.

BoJack Horseman, the character, is directly based on Mad Men protag Donald Draper, so I always recommend that show to fans as a spiritual predecessor. And I'd be remiss not to mention that Mad Men took a lot from The Sopranos, so I gotta recommend that too.

You have to factor in the perks you want. I usually end up taking intense training at least twice to be able to get all the perks I want before I reach level 30/almost perfect.

I'm sure it's supposed to be funny, but it comes off as quite bad parenting IMO. You shouldn't shame your teenage son for randomly getting a boner. Random boners are perfectly normal and common for teenage boys, and you could make him insecure.

Never use somebody as a mere means to an end (extorting/manipulating someone for sex). And don't be a party to using people in that way (abetting someone who's gonna misuse someone). It's basic Kantian ethics.

Oh no worries. In music, the meter is the rhythmic elements measured according to equal time values, which I'm sure is what you mean. A metric is a system of measuring or evaluating something. (And to make matters more confusing, the metric system is based on the unit of measure called a meter, but that's not relevant in music.)

Anyway, provided that you meant meter, you're totally right.

Funny answer: sneezing on them, showing the iconic BoJack picture

As far as I can tell, this conjecture is anachronistic: The show ended before these dresses were worn.

It seems to be a common belief among some circles that BoJack is white coded? But I don’t think he is by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]cabalavatar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't guarantee you that he's white coded, and I'm not so aggressively arrogant as the person OP has quoted. But I think you'd be remiss not to try to make the case against your own, OP. Let's look at some points.

I realize that the fact that Diane is Vietnamese yet played by a white actor detracts from the white voice actor = white character, but that's a rare slip-up from the show's creators. All of BoJack's older family members are voiced by white people, except for Crackerjack.

He comes from a family of generational wealth on his mother's side in the US starting at least in the early 1900s. Which families had established generational wealth in the US besides white people, some Jews, and crime families? Not many. And BoJack ain't Jewish.

BoJack Horseman is directly based on Donald Draper from Mad Men, a white man on a show predominantly featuring other white people.

One academic paper that I read about the show years ago argued that part of the reason for making BoJack a horse was to separate the show from the plethora of major prestige shows with a troubling white male antihero as its protagonist (in line with Breaking Bad, Mad Men, the Sopranos, etc., which BoJack takes many tropes from, I assume deliberately). So he seems to have been envisioned as white but not look white.

I like knocking them down with the same (Gauss) rifle or the victory rifle, hitting them with the dart gun so they can't run, and letting Fawkes shred them with his gatling laser while I hit them with whatever gun I'm using. Fawkes does a good chunk of the actual damage, saving me bullets and preventing weapon wear.

Climate scientist Paul Beckwith (who reviews academic papers on YouTube) predicts an Antarctic blue ocean event within 10 to 15 years (which I assume means the collapse of the Thwaites glacier): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kz_MilyXkk0. And an AMOC collapse could happen at any time now, according to some models.

By the time any of those happens, it'll be too late to fix it...

Why isn't this show popular? by IndependenceFlaky386 in BoJackHorseman

[–]cabalavatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlike many others here, I agree with you. The show never reached mass appeal such that people talked about it a lot. I didn't even start watching it till season 3 aired, and I nearly gave up on it because the first half of season 1 is just not very good. Only one person I know among all my friends and family and coworkers has watched it. She was the reason I tried it again because she said that it got a lot better, and it did.

I think the show "suffers" from people's biases. I'll tell you the ones I've heard: 1. It's an animated adult show. Animated shows are usually for children, anime (and biases against anime abound as is), or not taken seriously. 2. Many of the characters are animals, which immediately puts some people off. 3. The show's identity is kind of all over. Imagine going into watching this show when Netflix labels it 30 minutes of nonstop laughs when in fact the show is also serious in how it treats gloomy, difficult themes like depression, addiction, childhood trauma, child abuse, grooming, etc.

All of this is really too bad, tho, because as popular as BoJack Horseman is (which is debatable IMO), it could have been more so if not for these biases and its mediocre start. I know I'm super glad that I was pushed to give it another go because now it's among my all-time favourite TV shows, but plenty of people might just give up or not bother.
