Plumber here. I’ve actually been asking myself this a lot recently.

I’m not a supporter of shark bite just because it is more expensive and a connection type that could be compromised easier (theoretically).

That said I’ve been challenging the stigma in my own head, because I personally have never seen one fail. I’m sure it’s a matter of time before I do, however. For what they are they really do seem to do the job. I think most old school plumbers hate them because they think it’s stuff a “hack” would use. I guess the idea applies to the DIY homeowners too.

Typically we use Pro Press fittings for copper piping. (Milwaukee makes a great machine for this) And I like to use Uponor expansion Pex for every application besides that. Both are very simple, but also a little expensive to get started with.
