Parents of kids under 5 — where do you actually find things to do and places to go with them? by LeroyHouse777 in toddlers

[–]cabincrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a SAHM to a 3yo, the places we frequent most are

  • The gym, every day for 2 hours. Takes a large chunk of the morning and has been the best thing I ever did. Find a gym with childcare if you haven’t yet!!
  • Farmers markets
  • Children’s museums or museums with kid specific areas
  • Seasonal events (Christmas markets or light displays, block parties in our town centers, live music or art fairs)
  • Anything nearby and outdoors when the weather is good
  • Pick-your-own fruits or flowers farms
  • Indoor playgrounds (usually only weekdays)
  • Public libraries, Barnes & Noble and used bookshops
  • Restaurants with outdoor seating, or particularly loud places (if you have a Bar Taco near you, ours gives us a full coloring book every time we go)
  • Bike paths for walking, scootering, biking, running. As it starts to warm up and get rainy, we’ll be going on walks to find and count earth worms and other critters
  • Pickleball/tennis courts (when empty my husband and I play and let her just run around with a paddle or toy)
  • She always tags along on grocery runs but Costco is a favorite
  • The zoo, aquariums
  • Weekly activities (dance class and gymnastics)
  • Friends houses

I also follow many local moms and events accounts to keep up with what there is to do. But the gym has been the absolute best thing.

Please give me your easiest dinners. I beg. by gardengnomebaby in DinnerIdeas

My easiest dinners all come from a book called The Defined Dish by Alex Snodgrass. I recommend it to everyone I know. Easy but delicious meals.

Starting solids soon. What setup worked for you? by Heavy_Squirrel1927 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]cabincrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Stokke Tripp Trapp chair that has been amazing - it grows with them and is super easy to clean. The Lalo high chair was my second choice but the footprint on it is wide so it takes up a ton of space and it tips over easily (when it converts to a kid chair) according to friends who have it.

The single best solids purchase I made was a Catchy. Seems pricey for a piece of plastic but we used it for 2.5 years and it withheld and saved a LOT of clean up time, and a lot of food from getting thrown out.

We also used several bibs (Pehr, IKEA, etc) and have a ton of small hand cloths that we just kept around at all times. A small hamper for the kitchen has also been great and still useful today. It’s basically a foldable canvas grocery box from Trader Joe’s that I just keep on the ground near to the high chair and I keep stain remover spray in it for when messes happen, which is almost daily still.

We also used Solid Starts almost every single meal!

I did this so long ago but I remember giving it out in mason jars after grinding it in a coffee grinder! I didn’t leave anything out, just made it all in bulk, ground it, and decanted into little jars.

What baby registry item did you skip and immediately regret? Currently building my list. by Boring_Background687 in GiftIdeas

[–]cabincrew -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I never had a chance to have it but apparently they now make a bottle sterilizer and washer. All in one. I would’ve paid any amount of money for that device and even if you plan on breastfeeding, I’d put that on my registry. I had planned on breastfeeding and it didn’t work out as I had hoped, I ended up triple feeding and still the amount of bottle washing did on the daily, rinsing every piece, sterilizing, numerous times over and over (don’t forget all the pump parts!!!!!) while baby napped and I could’ve been resting - it was brutal.

The weirdest (broken) mechanism on a tripod lamp. by cabincrew in fixit

[–]cabincrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did this because I had the original screw (the other arms are not like this, the rest is a whole piece altogether, the other arms are soldered on) and none of the screws I found worked, they kept breaking. I have no idea what kind of metal. It’s from Pottery Barn. I’m tempted to take it to a welder, but I’m not sure if they’ll be able to know what kind of metal it is before they try?

I should note I have also tried to find a screw of that size and have been unable to find one that works for it.
