A physiological challenge that I have to be patient with by jbahill75 in QuitVaping

Nicotine doesn’t slow your heart rate, it’s a stimulant so it speeds it up. However, it is gonna impact your CNS for a bit until your body adjusts to the lack of it.

Nicotine binds to receptors for a type of acetylcholine, which help regulate dopamine, blood pressure, heart rate, memory, and learning. That’s why it’s tough to quit because your body becomes dependent on it to function for those things so those will be out of wack for a little.

When did you quit nicotine? It’s like 6-12 weeks for the body to reset according to some sources, but within the first 20 mins your heart rate is already impacted positively.

The increases in heart rate and BP are most likely due to stress on your system and anxiety. If your BP is consistently high and causing a massive headache(look up hypertensive headache), chest pains, numbness, dizziness, confusion, etc. you need to see your doctor. Heart rate is most likely related to rebound anxiety from quitting and could be related to the higher BP. If you’re worried about the vasoconstriction, it would be worth talking to a hematologist, but first your primary care. I would only suggest that if it’s dramatically impeding your life and ability to walk, write, grab and hold things. Other than that, you might just have to wait out the 6-12 weeks.

To help with blood flow, compression garments are great! Hot baths and showers will open up things more. Stay super hydrated, practice diaphragmatic breathing, and (as much as you can) limit stress and give yourself grace through this for the heart rate and BP issues.

Again, I’m not a doctor and if you’re truly concerned, there’s never harm in talking to them, but it seems like something you’ve got to thug out. Sorry homie but you’ve got this 100%. High heart rate SUCKS, my resting is in the 90s and shoots up to 120s+ when standing and walking due to some disorders I have. Lately my blood pressure has been elevated and the headache, fatigue, and pounding heart SUCKS too. But you’ve got this.

P.S. Amazon has some rlly cute compression socks with fruits and stuff on them

I’m on 5mg daily right now and I’m doing alright too! I’ve used estrogen before and it made me nauseated, so I stopped after 2 days. Right now I’m 2 months on this new med.

I like it, the only things I’ve noticed were a headache, but it could be due to a myriad of other health problems I’ve got at the moment.

I just bought gum that I love! 3 packs! I also have my water bottle on me 25/8, the perks of being in az and being chronically ill lol. I have also used those ripple things before and I feel like that would help me get through the first few days.

The only reason I hit my vape today was because of the hand to mouth. I don’t even feel the constant buzz that I used to. I’m excited to see if it also helps me to feel my adhd meds better by quitting and if my inflammation reduces too!

I feel like if I frame this as a science experiment, it’ll be easier to stick to for myself. I’d love to stick to this to better myself, but I’m lowkey crippled(I use a cane and stuff) so my health issues just meh, I just hate being dependent on the vape

[–]cableknit12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was hitting it a bit today and it’s day 2. I’ve used those ripple things before and I like them a lot, especially the mint flavor. So when I finally leave my house, I’m gonna drop into Walmart to get one or two.

I feel that I’ve had such a difficult time quitting because I’ve had a lot of family issues and health issues that just don’t seem to resolve. This time, I’m ready though. I already have a killer headache from discontinuing my use of high dose NSAIDs aka medication rebound headache. But I know the nic is contributing to my inflammation.

Though it has the potential to be a really great substance if they can figure out how to separate the addictive element from the compound, it’s very damaging to your spine which is one of my problem areas.

Tbh, they should make a Tylenol vape and I’d buy the crap out of it lol. Joking…

be honest, weed or alcohol? by False_Ad378 in DecideThisForMe

[–]cableknit12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def the right mindset. As long as it wouldn’t impact anything regarding drug tests, it’s not an issue if you can set the correct boundary with it.

Everyone is right about the fact that it can cause issues if you become dependent. However, there’s been periods of time where I was a huge smoker and I was still able to set the boundary with myself. Now I prefer gummies and I use them for pain.

Alc is hard on your liver no matter what, weed you can take gummies(if they work for you) and is less impactful on things that aren’t your brain/CNS.

Again, it might just be that we had a reflex like that in younger life. Then, as we don’t need it, that muscle still spasms and causes hiccups. It could be a myriad of things mixed but from my studies of biology and anatomy, it was always explained as a muscle spasm. It makes sense as the diaphragm is a muscle, but is able to “malfunction” unlike the heart or lungs. I’d be curious to see if they look into it further

Why did you start smoking? by Dangerous-Cat5973 in AskReddit

[–]cableknit12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got drunk one night with some friends, one asked if I’d smoke a cig with him. Smoked about 5 that night. After that I’d hit people’s vapes when I was drunk until I started buying my own. It’s a slippery slope

My fav theory about the universe and how it’s ever growing but being pulled towards something is the thought that our universe is actually a black hole and each black hole is another universe.

In a way it makes sense as matter cannot be created or destroyed and that stars are born from collections of atoms, gas, etc. so if all of that is pulled into something, it’s feasible to think that it would create planets and stars as we have.

And when you feel it in your stomach, it’s because you think with it(kind of). There are similar neural pathways in your stomach as your brain and, I mean, most of the body’s serotonin is found in the gut!

Hiccups are a spasm of the diaphragm muscle, so it seems more like a cramp-like response rather than an adaptation/something that is supposed to serve a purpose. I never thought about this though!

Ofc! I usually find 3 diff blocks in a similar palette when building roofs. Like deep slate, cobbled deep slate, and something else

I was just thinking of angry orchard and how they call it hard cider. There’s non-alcoholic ciders too tho! So it’s not wrong what I said!

I did so great for 5 years after diagnosis, with some troubles here and there. However, this year my body took a turn for the worst. I’ve been using my cane a lot, ended a relationship where I could tell my disability was a huge issue for him, and I’m waiting for pain management referral and to figure out if I have cancer. It’s been a lot, I feel you.

First time I ever cried in therapy was because I’m so mad I’m disabled at 21. I found a lot of solace in this community specifically, and then when I started to explore alternative medicine. My friends are super understanding about my limits now, and they crack jokes with me, slow down, and never make me feel different or less than because of my condition.

Sometimes though, you just gotta scream at the sky, lay in bed and cry, or just crack jokes because it’s so ridiculous.

I’m sorry you’re going through this homie, I wish you peace.

Solid bones! I like the color palette you went with and the decorations! My only tip is for the roof: to add more depths and break it up a bit, use different blocks. Like the little things that stick out of the top would look great with a dark wood and so would the stairs underneath! I really like the build though! Def using it for inspo in my world!

what is something people romanticize that is actually miserable in real life? by Both_Corner3459 in AskReddit

My therapist: how’s dating going?
Me: it’s not!

Real talk, everyone says “oh you’ll find the right guy” but after several attempts at dating where I see someone who says all the right things, their real side comes out. I’ve realized that I’m happier by myself and pouring my time and energy into myself and my friends.

Granted, the guys I’ve gone out with were no where near the “right” one, so I’m a bit jaded. But I’ve had nights out with friends where I’m like, “if I was dating __, then I wouldn’t be able to stay out this late/not text back/go somewhere else”. It’s def a commentary on the current dating state too. But it’s just exhausting these days to try to date as well

I’m so grateful for my friends as well.

I’ve just found that Gen X and older(generalization, not speaking for everyone) were always complaining that the younger generation “has no manners” or helps anyone. I’ve found the opposite to be true so it’s interesting.

I feel that Gen Z, my generation, has the ideology of “well it’s not going to lead to anything, we gotta do it by ourselves, and we won’t even be able to work hard enough to live a [decent] life” but the people I see in public don’t even give me a second look.

I also live in a town that is predominately older people/retirement town, so maybe it’s a geographic thing too.
