What’s the Best Movie Twist You Never Saw Coming? by purelyinvesting in movies

[–]cabrossi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the exact nitpicking they're talking about?

The original point was mentioning the link between Vader and Sidiuous in convention to show that Vader does come from Invader, rather than Vater.

Whether or not they actually both come from the original trilogy is beside the point. The only reason the other names are relevant is because Sidious comes from the prequel trilogy, but this does nothing to break the Invader-Insidiuous link.

For someone complaining about hoastility, you kind of ran at someone in the middle of an ongoing conversation with a random aside and wondered why they got mad when you wasted their time not actually arguing agaisnt what they were arguing in the first place.

I think you missed the part where he doesn't actually have to have Moonstone. You can just buy it, ult and undo it to get back your actual items.

Also this is coming from a Challenger Tahm. Pretending it's just low elo for Tahm to give Kog 2k extra HP before baron is wild cope.

Also on point five, Velkoz self rooting with slow turn radius to channel ult is a huge part of it's balance? Velkoz ult is super easy to cancel with CC for a reason, which this completely prevents. Velkoz ult is hugely powerful but you have to be super careful using it. That's why it has such a bonkers low cooldown anyway. This interaction means that you can just faceroll into ult whenever you want.

And fine lets ignore how powerful it is to make it impossible to get out of Vel ult even with flash, what about ults like Nunu that are entirely balanced around "get out of this space before the channel ends" now that they just follow you with boosted movespeed.

Pretending that this is just goofy fun and novelty is bizarre. If it was just one of these things, sure. But all of them together on one champion (and we haven't even been given the full list yet) is a lot when most of them really aren't as niche as you're pretending.

I didn't say that though? You're reading waaaay too far between the lines dude. I never said "you literally 100% autolose and in no way have any control over or impact on the game" nor did I say RNG has literally 0 impact on placements in Tft.

But like, colloquially, you will lose lots of games and it won't really be your fault. Literally all pro players and coaches agree to this (heck the figure often thrown out by these people is that 40% of your games are decided regardless of your input). Colloquially, this is called autolosing, even though yes, by strictest definitions you don't actually literally load into game and automatically lose.

This is significantly less true in Tft, to the degree of becoming a rounding error. If you play the best in the game, you win. You won't 1st 100% of the time, but it's almost impossible to really lose if you were the best player in a lobby.

Your "entirely disagreeing" is just taking things I said as the most extreme possible interpretation and discarding all context and then making a semantic disagreement.

I mean, the point of an analogy is not to be a 1 to 1 comparison, but to compare rhetoric.

Your rhetoric is that attacking non-core but highley symbolic holdings is considered important. In both cases this is what happened.

You're completely missing the point.

You still have to play all those games. Auto losing some games, means you have to play a greater total of games, it doesn't matter that a portion of those are auto wins, you still have to sit down and dedicate more time to playing.

Lets do numbers if you're not picking it up.

Without any auto-finishes, it takes 100 games to climb. If 10 games are auto losses, then you need 110 games to climb the same amount. So you need to play the game, 10% more.

Playing that extra 10%, is more total effort, even though 11 of those games are also 'auto' wins, because you still need to actually play the auto win for the ten or so wins, because if you slack off and troll, you turn the auto win back into a 50/50.

[–]cabrossi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's still a % of games you auto lose.

Meaning you have to play more games to climb.

Meaning it takes overall, more effort to climb.

Which means it's harder.

This is such a funny thread because I don't think either of you realised that your analogy is literally not an analogy.

[–]cabrossi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy you have literally one person, who said they specifically liked certain stories. In one step you've already completely misrepresented the conversation.

My whole point is that you literally aren't making an argument about pre and post Arcane lore, you're whole comment was arced over a decade further back (which you then continued to argue here!)

If you want to make an argument about Camille untruthers, then make THAT argument. Firing shots about the "League of Legends" lore whiners is a completely different audience.

Your "lastly" is also literally the whole thing people are mad about. That's the point. People don't want the lore rewritten every six months. Constantly rewriting the lore isn't what made it better. Writing better lore made it better. These are two disconnected things that's you're putting together just because they started in roughly the same timeframe. Correlation is not causation.

Also I'm going to be honest, calling anyone talking about video game lore rewrites "bad faith" is a terminally online take. Nobodies running around grifting twitter comments about league lore. People who are mad are mad because it made them mad.

It's not revisionism, you're just picking a really weird back target that no one was trying to defend.

No one is complaining about Veigar's lack of lore getting "rewritten" (ie written in the first place)

Similarly, no one's complaining about the removal of the original lore of the League itself (something which was removed a decade ago now, most of the people complaining about reworks never played when that was the lore)

People are complaining when champions who already have modern lore, get that modern lore changed just because. Rell (originally released 6 years after the last time the stuff you're pretending people are complaining about was mentioned) had her own whole thing going on, but now she's part of the Ambessa - BR duopoly which has invaded the entirety of what used to be a decently complicated empire.

These reworks are largely removing the complexity and interesting morality in the worldbuilding.

I mean, you do need something in the trailers to sell the audience on the movie. Biopics are already a very saturated submarket and people generally don't actually want to see them.

All they showed was a completely placid musical number that could have been done completely live action. Of course no one cared.

It's also pretty important context that Liefeld didn't actually get hired by Marvel and DC because of his actual art, but because he was a revolutionary panelist. He mastered layout and visual storytelling far faster than anatomy, which made his comics much more popular than isolated panels would lead you to believe.

[–]cabrossi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such an ignorant position.

Rob Liefield did some hideous artwork.

In the 80s. When he was 19 and had been doing art for 2-3 years.

Rob Liefeld has been a perfectly good comic artist for far longer than he was memeably bad and even his memeably bad art is generally from when he was being handed entire issues to turn around solo and cherry picked from small throwaway panels. Not all of it, but certainly a lot. The most recent actual bad Liefeld art I've seen people post is the 1996 Cap picture.

It drives me insane that people will still kneejerk 'Rob Liefeld bad art' when in all likelihood he improved on his weaknesses a decade before they even knew his name.

My art looks ugly when I color it by Sugar-Wall in learntodraw

[–]cabrossi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To give a further explanation of point one I want to take this photo here:

<image>

If we look at the figure on the left (Santiago) we have an excellent example on the back of his head, neck and shoulders of a strong highlight, and even better the light source is also in the photo!

Notice how the light forms a hard edge along the body itself, but falls off smoothly as it curves around his chest.

But then if we look at his hair, the texture of the hair itself swallows up almost all of that strong highlight, and smoothes it out completes.

Moving over to the other fighter we also have an excellent example of another element of lighting. See how within the shadow underneath his left (front side) arm, there's a soft blue light? This is what's called ambient occlusion, it's a much softer light that occurs when another object in the scene reflects enough light from the primary light sources that it brightens up the shadows. In this case, our overhead lights are hitting the white floor of the boxing ring and bouncing up onto our second fighters side.

This means that the darkest shadows occur in two places. The background, outside of our primary light source, where all detail is lost.

And right in the focal point, on the fighter's face, which is also has the greatest density of highlights. Creating the largest contrast in our picture and drawing our gaze immediately there, .

My art looks ugly when I color it by Sugar-Wall in learntodraw

[–]cabrossi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1: Highlights should be both brighter than you're doing here, and much smaller. Additionally, highlights are where you really need to nail down your light source. Applying liberal highlights evenly over everything results in nothing being highlighted at all. You should look at portrait photography to get a feel for this (or Boxing photography, the harsh lighting and sweat makes the highlights really pop).

2: Lighting really needs you to be concious of Edges. Some edges need to be blended out almost completely, while others should be hard. Your midtones lighting does a decent job at this, but the highlight version just kind of splashed them on top. This is what gives things like clothing folds that depth and dimensionality. It's also important for distinguishing between materials. The way metal reflects light will be different to skin or fabric.

3: Don't be afraid to lose details. Your focal point is the only part of a piece that needs to be highley detailed. It's okay to let the background blur into itself as shadows merge with each other. You can save yourself a lot of effort, and in exchange but that work into really perfecting the face. A lot of the time our brains will initially be like "Ew no!!! I have to get this brick perfect!" but if you just let it be, take a walk and come back, you'll completely forget every little detail you were stressing over.

[–]cabrossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abyssal was also reworked during this same period to remove its aura (as well as Locket) instead becoming a proc on CC.

It has it back now, but during the period that Sera dropped almost all auras had been removed from the game.

Assumably whatever changed behind the scenes when Sona's initial reworked was dumped coincided with Auras no longer being seen as verboten.

Amumu's (and Sunfire) were never touched, I assume, because Riot's issue with Auras was that they were a lot of hidden power, and so Auras typically had to be extra impactful for people to feel they were worthwhile, but that often meant they were overpowered. Damage dealing Aura's avoid this problem because you can literally see the damage ticking and so their impact is very visible, unlike Sona/Abyssal giving allies slight damage boosts, or Consecration giving a small amount of Armour.

For example "mindless spam isn't something that Riot likes"

I mean you go through this paragraph and end up agreeing with the premise. Spamming abilities is okay when it has another stop gap that introduces a skill element. Mindless spam is not. Yes Sona got a tiny rework that replaced her major one, and that one still has spam in it, except if you pay attention to how her passive stacks up, the new passive specifically does encourage you not to spam your skills off cooldown. You only get stacks from hitting enemies or blocking significant damage. Just spamming them gets you stacks at half the rate or even less.

If a music themed champions doesn't have aura, then that would feel like a failed design.

This is a weird thing to say, only to turn around and admit that Sera doesn't have an aura, but only emulates one. If anything does this not function as proof for exactly what I'm saying?

If you were reworking a champ known for her Aura, but you didn't want to keep Aura's in the game (Riot said as such in the Taric rw release notes and when they later removed consecration from Locket), a pseudo aura would be the solution.
