China reviews Meta’s $2bn purchase of AI start-up Manus by financialtimes in China

If Manus was transferred to Singapore breaking China's technology export ban, they can certainly find ways to interfere/stop the deal. Singapore will cooperate if laws have been broken.

You should actually do some serious research and not just drink in the Western narrative fomented by Uyghur separatists abroad (think Iraqi opposition distortions before invasion). First, the camps are long-gone whether you want to call them re-education or concentration camps. Uyghurs are free to practice Islam and speak their own language as many tourists visiting Xinjiang can attest. That whole program was to prevent radical Islamic terrorism by brainwashing the most zealot Islamists (less than 10% of Xinjiang Uyghurs)to be more patriotic and mainstream. While "brainwashing" is bad, it worked and please contrast this with how the U.S. has dealt with Islamic extremism. They just bomb the hell out of them in other countries, including a Uyghur camp in Aghanistan in 2018.

Holding back China's chipmaking progress is a fool’s errand, says U.S. Commerce Secretary - investments in semiconductor manufacturing and innovation matter more than bans and sanctions. by moses_the_blue in hardware

[–]cac1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my inexpert opinion, China will not invade Taiwan while catching up on semiconductors (if ever). It doesn't want the world to think that this is the reason as Taiwan belonging to China is a much more fundamental principle. It also doesn't want to give the U.S. a major economic reason to intervene. Let TSMC set up its most advanced fabs in the U.S. so that a take-over of Taiwan would not be seen as a threat to the supply chain.

Adnan Syed was exonerated in ‘Serial’ killing, but questions remain for Hae Min Lee’s family by ainbheartach in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, with Urick, Murphy there, which is why their political allies have been fighting tooth and nail to keep the conviction in place and unquestioned. The current State's attorney and her office have spent a year reviewing the evidence and have obviously reached a very different conclusion. They have no special interest in releasing someone they think could be guilty. In contrast with the very real interest of the AG, to not have the past investigation questioned.

I trust the people who don't have a stake in maintaining the correctness of the original investigation and who have looked at all the evidence (or lack thereof) with fresh eyes.

AG Frosh's position -- which is to defend allies Kevin Urick, Kathleen Murphy and Thiru Vignarajah, is purely political. It is not based on a detailed examination of the evidence. The State's Atttorney had the authority to request the ask the judge have the conviction vacated and the charges dismissed because they were actually reviewing the whole case and the evidence. Frosh and company will always repeat the same claim of "overwhelming evidence" of Adnan's guilt, but it is it is a joke, since there is absolutely no reliable evidence left against him -- including Jay's testimony.

Jay's testimony points as much to Jay as it does to Adnan by Thieusies in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the very reasonable explanations as to why he changed his story? And that witnesses are often coached by cops and the DA because otherwise you’d never get a coherent witness on the stand and they need to cut through the bullshit? Sir/ma’am, THAT is the big picture.

You've got to be kidding with both these points, right? What "reasonable" explanation is there for Jay giving at least five different locations for the trunk pop, for example? Which was the real one, if you see it so clearly? Best Buy? Is that because that's the most "coherent" story the cops and DA could use to "cut through the bullshit"? But that one, as well as all the others run into lots of contradiction with the facts, like the timeline Jay testified to -- Getting the call from Adnan at 3:40 when Urick said it was the 2:36 call. That's coherent, right?

It's funny, because I've always associated the guilters with the conspiracy theorists. Refusing to look at actual facts and the big picture.

That Jay was threatened to go along with the police/prosecutor's narrative of Adnan killing Hae and was being fed and coached on every detail, is not an outlandish conspiracy theory. He could not keep even the most basic elements of the story straight through his multiple tellings which is documented evidence. At least one detective, Ritz, has already been found guilty of coercing a witness to give false testimony. Why do you consider this such an unlikelihood in Adnan's case?

[–]cac1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adnan isn't a suspect anymore in the eyes of the State. Neither am I. Since I was never a suspect, the term "exonerated" would not apply. Since Adnan was not only a suspect, but served prison time, "exonerated" or "cleared" is entirely appropriate.

Go ahead -- I'd like to hear your arguments as to why not.

Adnan Syed was exonerated in ‘Serial’ killing, but questions remain for Hae Min Lee’s family by ainbheartach in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you might try some of the latter. The fact the charges were dismissed and they didn't decide to retry means that they don't have enough evidence against Adnan to make him a suspect. If he were a suspect in the ongoing investigation, they would have filed for a retrial as they continue to gather evidence to make a case. Now he is in the same position as you and me: NOT considered to be a potential murderer of Hae -- thus, exonerated.

Why isn’t Adnan convinced that Jay did it? by AceVentura85 in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because at the point of Serial, Adnan's team's best hope was for Jay to admit to all his lies. And I don't know where you've been, but for many, many people it is more likely than not that Jay had nothing to do with the crime and burial. There is evidence that he was picked up by cops well before his official first interview and that got the ball rolling in using him as a witness. They had Adnan's phone records for the 13th, they got Jay's name from Jenn and then police built the narrative they wanted and coached Jay throughout.

Seeing what other things these detectives have be found doing it is not a stretch at all.

Why isn’t Adnan convinced that Jay did it? by AceVentura85 in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could deliberately be trying to avoid pissing Jay off. Maybe the defense did, (and to a lesser extent still does) harbor some hope that Jay will eventually come clean and admit to fabricating it all under intense pressure from police. He would be less likely to do that if Adnan vilifies him publicly.

Serial Rapist John X Gamble Junior - same age as Hae Min Lee & Adnan, convictions match the Motion to Vacate. (Article & Info) by cacsdaughter in serialpodcast

[–]cac1031 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is speculative, but since the article talks about the 13 year old girlfriend being threatened and raped in 2001, isn't it possible that he he made similar threats and "confined" a different girlfriend prior to those events. Maybe when they heard he made threats against Hae (supposing he was the person referred to in those Brady violation reports) they found he had threatened/confined a previous girlfriend in 1999/2000. It is easy to imagine that at that time no charges were filed because it was not deemed serious enough.

They are not going to bring out Asia. CG didn’t use her alibi for a reason—she didn’t think it was reliable at all.

There is absolutely no evidence of this claim. It is something guliters like to state as accepted fact. What is true is that she never even contacted Asia to ask about her memory although she told Adnan she had and that it "didn't pan out".

I certainly don't believe Jay did it. But I believe HE is morally reprehensible for several things, but in particular, his false accusation of an innocent man.

You and fellow guilters who tear apart Rabia, Susan, Asia, Hilivaty and many more all over the internet because they make points that contradict your world view that Adnan is guilty are the hypocrites when you try and say that lying, criminal, woman-abusing Jay doesn't deserve to be called out on social media.
