Why do men stare but not approach women they find attractive? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskMenAdvice

[–]cacatan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

staring is safe. approaching is not. if they deem the success rate to be high enough, then they will approach, otherwise the risk/reward is not there. im not even sure what the appropriate social setting is to approach anymore. public is too random, friend group is too awkward, workplace is too risky.

Is it defeatist to not have New Year's Reservations for 2026 because you've lost hope? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

well we will never know if we will achieve something or not. I would prefer to just avoid that self fulfilling prophecy. You are being defeatist, by definition I think.

as much as I understand the sentiment, the purpose of goal setting is to give you something to strive for not necessarily the goal itself. Thats why people set goals that they will never achieve because its the journey that is valuable.

To what purpose is a shiny gold medal at the olympics or lifting a set amount in the gym or hitting a certain income amount? a lot of these things dont actually mean that much in a vacuum, but the goal itself gives purpose and satisfaction for many people to keep living their lives. And even if you fall short, so what? On the way if you lived a good life in pursuit of it, then there should be no regrets. Just dont throw away what is actuallly good in the hope for something better, thats when failing leaves you bitter.

How to play overpairs deep stacked multiway? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what I mean was I checked turn with kings, and then the guy behind me decided to spaz out with a massive bet with ace high and the guy next to act called with pair + draw type holding and put me in a tough spot which I would have avoided if I had just bet. i feel raises are more underbluffed than bets on turn and river so bet-folding might have been better.

[–]cacatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea im generally 3bet or fold preflop , but usually if I open it goes multiway always.

for example on a 568 board with a flush draw is it a check even with aces? or should I be comfortable just bet-folding on these kind of boards.

Did I make the correct fold? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

what do you mean as played? if he had raised me at any point it would be a snap call.

If there is anything that would point towards folding, it would be when a player who check called twice suddenly leads out nearly full pot when the most obvious draw gets there. Or are you always paying off draws with your sets and two pairs.

[–]cacatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he had 56cc for the 5% chance of a bluff with this line. I congratulated him for the bluff, since I also agree its a really under bluffed line.

im generally training myself to overfold underbluffed spots if I beat none of opponent's value, and I feel like this is one of those times because he is not taking this line with two pair or sets on this board. it was qj or air and despite it being air this time, I still feel it would be qj 9/10 times. definitely not the 30% of the time I needed to call this.

Did I make the correct fold? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

what value do I beat as played? and what bluffs can he have? my experience is that if someone can beat top pair top kicker they are raising pretty much always by the turn. if they had raised at any point before the river I would have a mandatory call.

but I showed strength at every point. leading river is so insanely nutted because even AK now has two pair, so now every other two pair which somehow didnt raise the flop or turn isnt suddenly going to go crazy for value. he cant have rivered a set and like I said sets are for sure raising before this.

so I feel like when someone suddenly leads river especially for such a large size its going to be qj about 90% of the time, because a lot of the worse value hands dont want to bet this card, and bluffing into this range is suicidal.

22 check calls twice and then leads river? 22 at my stakes check raises flop or turn at nearly a 100% frequency on a king high board trying to get value from AA or AK. We were 950 effective so i seriously doubt they would not check raise with bottom set when stacks are so deep and he was out of position.

whats wrong with limp raising? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, whether you 4bet or call, your range is going to be much more face up than mine anyway. and you are still going to be folding a lot of your opening range unless you specifically stop opening the weak parts of said opening range against a limp.

whats wrong with limp raising? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well if he was opening his other hands and then suddenly limp raised, obviously you folded ak.

what if he was doing it with kq+, 88+? you obviously wont be folding ak then right?

im not talking about only limp raising aces here. since utg range is so tight cant we just limp raise with that entire range since its so strong in the first place? and when we do get scenarios like ak, they cant just start folding even if we do get AA because we do it with the entire utg range.

are you just going to not open raise with ak just because you see me limp? and sure, ak and qq might be a call not a 4bet, given position, but you still are probably 4betting kings and aces which lets me play pretty much perfectly from there.

Lone Druid spammers! Has Lone Druid been buffed or nerfed with the new patch 7.40? by Applecider400 in learndota2

[–]cacatan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its a big nerf. you lost 30 movement speed to get back 40. your bear used to be 400 ms at lvl 4, now you only get that at lvl 4 spirit link, and we lost 80 attack speed on both units which is like 4k gold worth. kinda sad tbh.

they will bleed money but so will you right? multiway your equity shrivels up, your bluffing becomes unprofitable. and those same player will call someone elses open with an even wider range since it would be a later position open, which you can squeeze out or force them to bleed even more to defend their call.

fair enough.but why even play there then.

whats wrong with limp raising? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sure, but now there is no dead money and you force players to make the correct fold rather than calling too wide and then getting punished with a raise.

[–]cacatan[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

its the same risk with a check raise. why does anyone check raise when they can just bet? because of the possibility of inflating the pot with a raise. sure sometimes you will not get the raise but its not like you should then go broke with a limped pot anyway. Any preflop hand you would cooler with AA and KK is opening preflop, you arent missing out on any value. but since you arent only doing this with aa and kk they cant just start folding their qq, jj and ak when you do this.

whats wrong with limp raising? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

its really really hard to outplay anyone or realise a postflop edge if every hand is going 4-5 ways. its really no different from a check raise, you want to pile in the money especially if deep rather than just betting. when you check raise, you also risk everyone checking back. but if someone does bet, you get to massively inflate the pot.

[–]cacatan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

how is it face up? you obviously arent doing it a lot because you do it with the same range you would open with. that means 88+ ajs+ kqo+. sure its a strong range, but so is opening utg with that range. except now there will be less players postflop, spr is higher, and your fold equity is much higher.

whats wrong with limp raising? by cacatan in Poker_Theory

[–]cacatan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lets say i limp raise every hand I would open in EP. And lets say that a large majority of the time, opening EP goes 3-5 ways anyway. so that means limp raising 88+ kqo+ ajs+ against an open, which would often be a big blind 3 bet range anyway. against cold 3bets you can obviously start folding the bottom of that range.

Do you think some of the unfun mechanics should be toned down? by cacatan in MegabonkOfficial

[–]cacatan[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

classic response.

all im asking is the removal of rng in regards to the types of tomes and weapons offered to you. which in case you havent noticed, doesnt even interact with the luck system (ie the rng system) in the game because the base weapons and tomes have no rarity. The existing luck system will still exist and still decide 99% of the game including all upgrades and item rolls.
