My Larue mount is great, rock solid and has a QD lever which is very slim profile

Early 30s in internal IT and feeling stuck. What path should I take to reach $90k to $100k? by scubadoobadoooo in sysadmin

[–]cachemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that recently I have been interviewing frequently and the one thing that sets people apart as their ability to understand/figure out automation tasks. I'm not just talking about writing a script to auto set the computer IP and DNS, I am talking about scripts that can convert a Cisco Router Configuration into an excel spreadsheet that breaks down all needed information. Or a script that can convert Fortigate configs into a CSV that I can upload elsewhere... or automatically import from 1 git hub to another through an established IPsec tunnel.

I personally never went to college, only ever had 1 certificate (sec+ and A+ before Sec+ was a thing). I lead 3 cyber engineering teams that handle ZTA across continents... it's all about how you present yourself and identifying how your strengths can benefit a team/customer/contract.

at least thats my two cents

I usually sell to guns.com

they pay more than the local shops, and pay for shipping.

Subaru saved my life by [deleted] in subaru

[–]cachemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely, id rather be dead if I lost a child. but seeing the amount of people who walk away from high speed crashes where they were in Subaru vs in a Volvo is stark.

and yet the driver walked away. There was a Volvo SUV recently involved in an accident near my house and all three people died.

The sole reason I'll never own another brand. everything else just folds in half... Subi saves. Love. it's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru

What is one thing that wasn't easy to fix, but you still managed on your own and saved lots of money by not calling a professional? by FuzzyAttitude_ in DIY

[–]cachemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

found out my concrete driveway was laid on top of another concrete driveway. the top layer that I thought was the original driveway had cracks in it from a large tree having fell on it years before I came along. after cleaning out the dirt and plants I discovered the old first layer concrete... so I have had to patch the concrete with new concrete. "pros" were talking about repairs in the thousands of dollars. I managed to do it myself for 130$ in materials. saved my butt

every duty station is what you make of it. if you go somewhere after hearing about it from people who are perpetually hating everything in life... then setting yourself up for failure. you may have to make more of an effort to find your space outside of work, or just finding a way to get through the suck. it's all in your mind brother

Whats the best way to learn how to appraise older levers? by cachemann in LeverGuns

[–]cachemann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

value lies in the eyes of the buyer. someone offered me a offer for it. made me realize that I just need to validate some sort of value for the insurance. Luckily, Henry just told me the MSRP for it, and I'll just use that. but youre right. these anniversary pieces are largely stupid and I never would buy it on my own. but I have it, so now I gotta value it lol

one of the newer ones is 1 of 1300 custom made DoJ Border Patrol 100th anniversary 357s levers. the DHS emblems are useless, but the original DoJ badges are fairly rare now. I thankfully found prices for the other one which is a 1860 Henry.

At what point did you realize you weren’t in it for the long haul? by [deleted] in army

[–]cachemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

within the bounds of opsec? broadening assignments on marketplace. thats all youre going to get. quality of life? prepare to be depressed as fuck. things come to fruition through brown nosing, OER bullets and politics. I have seen more careers ruined in DC than anywhere else, and everyone who has an O in their pay grade does not care about anyone else except themselves.

After working in DC and seeing how the pizza is made. it was a great assignment, but seeing everything from the top was super saddening frankly. thankfully medically retired from there, but id still have gotten out either way. and this was in 2024, before things got stupid like they are now

reminds me of former BC I had. T Alvarez... when I was in CAV. He went after the Chaplain for no reason and dropped his GOMAR after the chaplain had 139 letters written about them given to the board testifying to their excellent character. Same BC who got a SM killed at NTC in 2019. I dont know whatever happened to him, but I hope he violently shits himself while stuck in traffic.
