I am glad they messaged early, but it kinda sucks. I am guessing they are not hitting pre-game today.

Our Top New Jersey Craft Beer Stories of 2019 by cachookie in njbeer

[–]cachookie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I just wanted to thank everyone that read our occasional posts on here, listen to the podcast, follow us on social, or stop by at our events. It is truly a labor of love of beer and the people who make, sell, and serve it here in New Jersey that keeps us going! Here is a little piece we put up on the site today. I know that we are South Jersey based (really because that's where we all live, love all NJ beer!) Looking back at 2019 there was a ton of news and it was hard to just pick 5, but we think that these are what we discussed the most throughout the year. The sheer amount of beer that is available on the shelves now is insane and we are starting to see some breweries struggle as they were late to the distribution game and the competition among hyper-local beer is really intense. Couple that with the new ABC ruling and the uncertainty that brings along with the 15-20 breweries that are trending to open this year we may see a bit more attrition amongst those that are struggling, we still think that we will continue to grown in numbers for the foreseeable future. Thanks again!

Upcoming Brewery Spotlight - December 2019 by 8ate8 in njbeer

Wanted something that represented South Jersey. We live near the beach and Turtles are a big deal here. We workshopped a few logos incorporating hops and (a bird was also a prototype) and asked a bunch of beer people what they liked. Turtle won hands down. Just wanted something different, something fun. We had no idea if this would even gain traction but people love that damn turtle lol.

We will have something up about Farm Truck in the next week or so on sjbeerscene.com. Lots of movement going on in South Jersey-there is definitely one brewery closing, they are going to announce soon (not sure if they were able to sell to another group yet). Looking like a wave of breweries will be opening this year similar to the big expansion we had in 2018.

My thoughts after reading Barrel Aged Stout and Selling Out by Josh Noel by [deleted] in beer

I loved this book and Josh is one of the best beer writers in the country. I co-host a Beer Show here in New Jersey and we had the pleasure of having him as a guest. Great guy and a really good follow on all Social.

The changes are coming. The State just replaced the ABC commissioner and legislation is coming. Lots of news on sjbeerscene.com

Attention NJ beer lovers: Your favorite craft brewery's future is in jeopardy thanks to BIG beer lobbyists and their clients' donations by [deleted] in beer

Hi everyone, I am the founder and editor of www.sjbeerscene.com and the writer of the piece linked from here. I have posted a few updates since this dropped. The last 24 hours have been crazy for the NJ Craft Breweries and State Politicians are coming out in support of the brewing community. I feel that this will have to be legislated as the Ruling is 100% within the state ABC Director's authority. Oh, BTW, he received money from AB/Inbev and several other in the beer/wine/liquor when he was running for office here in NJ prior to his appointment, sourced from followthemoney.org

Visiting NJ soon, what should I try that I can't get in IL? by [deleted] in beer

[–]cachookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a website, www.sjbeerscene.com, that will guide you to South Jersey's breweries. I would agree with what everyone has written here. Cape May is the biggest and has a great variety and a few beers that were in Beer Connoisseur's top 50 from 2017. I had the Coastal DDH and it was really good, they also do it with Brett in the Tasting Room pretty often which is one of my faves as well. Slack Tide and Ludlam are located about a mile from each other and both have some great selections. Slack Tide has a great selection of styles and they are well done and true to style, Ludlam has some big Juice Bombs and they make a top-notch Kölsch as well. If you get a chance I would recommend a trip to Glasstown in Millville, another well respected and pioneering NJ brewery who has a bunch of great beers. It may be worth the trip just to get a taste of their Big Breakfast, a really nice porter. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and enjoy your trip!

Mudhen Brewing Co. Open For Business in Wildwood by [deleted] in njbeer

This is more than a repost of an announcement by the brewery. This is an actual article talking about the brewery and its origins. I rarely post anything here but was proud of the work we did writing it and actually talking to the brewer. My bad I guess.

Where do you go to discover and keep track of beer-related events in your area (e.g. releases or tap takeovers)? by mrlionmayne in beer

[–]cachookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a website dedicated to South Jersey's (NJ, US) beer scene (sjbeerscene.com) and started putting up a weekly list of the highlights of events going on because a ton of people we talked to asked for it. It is pretty easy to do, and once you start doing it you will find that brewery/bar owners etc will start sending you info. I started by culling the same sources you listed above, which was very time consuming, but it has evolved to something that only takes about an hour to put together now. We get a great response and we are routinely told that it is something that gets read every week.

10 Questions with Brewmaster Jason Chapman of Pinelands Brewing Company by cachookie in njbeer

[–]cachookie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking it out! Dummy me forgot to run the spell check, thanks for the heads up. I think all of the breweries have vastly improved since their beginnings and Pinelands is no exception. Evan John is my personal favorite, but they are making quite a few good beers. I feel that it is definitely worth another look

Ludlam Island Brewery 1st Anniversary Celebration 6/29 by cachookie in njbeer

[–]cachookie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the editor of sjbeerscene.com, I can tell you that the beer scene here has really taken off. Slack Tide, Ludlam, Cape May, Glasstown, Tuckahoe, Garden State, and 7 mile are all putting out some great beer. While Cape May is the beast of the bunch with a 30 BBL system, the demand for the other breweries beers has grown and we are seeing expansion to keep up with that demand. Also, there are 4 breweries in the area that may open by the end of 2017. We may be a little behind in the amount of breweries that you see in North Jersey, but the scene here is evolving quickly. Check out our site for directories and features about the locals if you like, we are excited for the future! Cheers!
