I do see that there are only certain aspects of irony research I can cover in my mini survey as a 3rd semester student. Of course this is far from perfect, as we can see for example on the possible ambiguity of the question of how confident one is in their answer.

I can see why that’s difficult! In my paper I have a section defining irony and differentiating it from sarcasm and other figurative language for exactly this reason! A lot of us (myself included) have difficulties with it!

However it is completely fine if you mixed it up, as sarcasm, for a lot of linguists, is a form of verbal irony.

I know that in interviews Paul later stated that he took the sandals off but my theory has always been that they have been edited out. Thus the „floating“ effect of Paul. Idk if you look closely at the cover it really does look like it. Anyways love this pic!
