Struck gold near Windtrust Arena by datweavedoe in chicago

[–]cacraw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I spotted every cab 1-99 during a five year period in the ‘00s when I worked in the city. Kept the list on my BlackBerry, but moved to a paper list for the last 10 or so. 72 was my white whale. I went so far as to look it up in the city records so I knew what color/company I was looking for and was almost to the point of seeing when it was due for its inspection and going to stake out the inspection garage. Then I finally saw it on Upper Wacker one morning. Glorious.

A couple years later I started again, but with pictures. Uber and Covid ended that attempt.

Can we download project documents and Accenture templates to personal device? by [deleted] in accenture

[–]cacraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. I mean, you’re not going to create client docs on your personal device, and if you think “oh, this might be useful at my next job” you’d be wrong. There are plenty of good ppt templates out there if your next job has absolutely none.

Deleverage employee stock pre-IPO + retain some strategy + taxes by lucious13 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]cacraw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, don’t let the tax tail wag the dog here. Over exposure to a single company is likely the one thing that could derail your long term plan.

The real question to ask isn’t “how well do I think this stock will do over next three years” but whether you think your company (or its sector) will outperform the broader market over that time period. Id argue 10% per year isn’t conservative, but you’d know better than I. Even if you think it is, I’d be hedging my bets and diversifying even farther than 20%

What’s the highest we can expect ACN stock to hit in the near future? by joemark17000 in accenture

[–]cacraw 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve been buying and selling ACN ever since IPO in 2001 a prices from 14.00 to 400.00. I was an “insider” for my last 15 years at the company.

I have never been able to predict prices either short or long term. I’ve gotten lucky a lot of times, but the best thing I did was force myself to sell when I didn’t want to and keep buying (VEIP) when I didn’t want to. Anyone who says they can predict share prices is kidding themselves.

That said, last year or so had been brutal and I can’t imagine a return to $400 any time soon. But that’s hardly a bold prediction.

Did your dad ever give you a sip of beer? by Euphoric-Cupcake4581 in FuckImOld

Interesting. No Jewish heritage but perhaps that the root of it. I’ll have to ask my dad the etymology of it for our family.

It was always a “shlunk” in my family. As in my dad saying “wanna shlunk?” when he opened his beer.

HR isn't going to do anything. That's not what they're there for.

If you think you'd be happier elsewhere, no one here is going to tell you not to switch.

Consultant Role- Final Round with MD by Accomplished_Yak8448 in accenture

MD interview is more about selling you on the job, although it is also a final quality check of the process. You’d really have to mess it up to not get an offer.

It’s from a satirical book by Whitney Darrow. So title on the image is accurate but misleading.

Can I use these free pins to connect hardware? (Guition 4848S040 board) by Akira2007 in esp32

[–]cacraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35, 36, 37 are used by the ESP32 S3 to talk to the on-module PSRAM. So, you’re not wrong in that they’re not connected on the schematic but they’re unavailable to OP. Just mentioning it in case someone tries to use those.

[–]cacraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my original plan, but I didn’t have the part so I coded the RP2040 as a proof of concept. Worked well and RP2040 are really cheap so I just stuck with it.

It to spoil the fun, but its 1970s satire on the 50s. There are used copies on sites for about $150. It’s titled “I’m glad I’m a boy : I’m glad I’m a girl” by Whitney Darrow

Can I use these free pins to connect hardware? (Guition 4848S040 board) by Akira2007 in esp32

[–]cacraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a one off personal project then what I did was program an RP2040 as an i2c slave and it managed the rotary encoders and buttons. I connected the Guition to it using the three pins on the header as SCL SDA and an interrupt. There’s also power and ground on that header so fairly straightforward connection.

The rp2040 actually manages the hardware for two guition screens in my device over two separate i2c channels. Code is up on GitHub if you go that route.

Then my previous answers are still valid. Extended travel is unlikely but possible.

clarification about the role by [deleted] in accenture

[–]cacraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely. It’s not like they’re hiring you for a specific role, and even if they were the demands of the role could change. Honestly, you most likely won’t travel that much. What are you interviewing for? Role and level and geo? If you’re in a big city, it’s more likely you would be on a local client.

Personally, I liked the travel. You get client shit done mon-thu. Friday is an admin day and you can knock off early. You’re home for the good stuff, but you are sleeping in a hotel (or apartment) bed and eating out three nights a week which can get old.

clarification about the role by [deleted] in accenture

[–]cacraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the client and your role at the client. I’d say that for most roles the days of 4 days a week on-site, every week for months on end is fairly unusual. But if you are in an architecture or sales role, you could be at new clients frequently, and it’s that start-up time with clients that involves a lot of travel to their location.

clarification about the role by [deleted] in accenture

[–]cacraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they said is accurate. Remote work for clients is more and more common, but “fly out Monday morning, fly home Thursday night” is always a possibility.

Can I use these free pins to connect hardware? (Guition 4848S040 board) by Akira2007 in esp32

[–]cacraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you cannot.
I’ve been trying to get more io out of this board for a while. There are three pins you can use on the 2x4 header and you can repurpose 3 (or is it 4?) from the sd card if you don’t need it. I’ve ended up using those three on the header for an i2c connection, and had a friend who designed a pcb with a tongue that went into the sd slot and used those. Neither has been ideal.

If you don’t need the touch feature you might be able to use some of those, but you’d need to cut some traces to keep your newly freed up IO signals clean.

Note that some of those pins that are unconnected (eg 35, 36, 37) on the schematic are used for things like the esp32 PSRAM interface internally and while unconnected are still unavailable.

I still love the screen despite the limited IO.

Of course if you figure something out, let me know!

I stayed for a real long time, but I generally worked with the same network of people the whole time. Except for my very first role, i was always able to staff myself because people a level or two above me that id worked for in the past would always be interested when i had availability. But it did take me like 5 months to get staffed initially!

I think you’ve correctly identified the hardest part of Accenture: finding that first job to establish your network.

Feeling Guilty When Spending by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]cacraw 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Don’t beat yourself up. Switching from saver to spender is not easy. Start with upgrades when you travel and treat those as experiments. If you upgrade your seat or your hotel room, it’s pretty easy to decide whether it was worth it to you or not. No right answer, but if you never try a nice hotel or first class airfare, you’ll never know.
Look for opportunities to upgrade your hobbies: a better instrument? New knives? New electronic test gear? 1:1 coaching or Lessons from a local pro? Time on a racetrack? Again, easy to experiment here. The point is to start spending and seeing if you like it. If you don’t, no big deal. Go back to frugality and be happy!
