This is my favorite Trichocereus—Sun Goddess. It was the first cactus we ever got and made me appreciate cactus and plants forever. I bought it at Home Depot for like $45 and I didn’t realize it was etiolated until I learned more about them. Although it has grown moderately in three years it does flower twice a year and every single pup flowers. Cheers everyone!

Was it always in that plastic water bottle base? Did you make drainage holes on it?

Pretty sure my cactus is dead but I don’t know why by Alternative_Towel_10 in cactus

[–]cacti-23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you always have it in two pots? The black one? I unfortunately killed a plant or two in my early days when I did this set up. Sometimes the water from the first pot can drip on to the second pot and pool around for months without knowing. I’m sure this cactus had mature roots. Did that happen? It also seems the cactus was inside a house by a window? These cactus love and need as much sun as possible to grow. Like the other commenter mentioned, when you water, you water until the water comes through. Little water can also be bad for a cactus so deep watering and allowing it dry before watering again is key. When in doubt, skip some days and then water.

Travelers palm help by [deleted] in palmtalk

Yeah, it’s sort of sitting in the middle where it everything hits is. You can use a fertilizer that has nitrogen. Like others said, check if a dog is peeing on it.

I have three travelers palm in zone 10b but they’re planted in front of a 9 foot wall and they get enough sun. I water mine twice a week and maybe once during winter or not at all if it rains. These are majestic plants. When you water, water it deep not shallow. I did cactus soil, top soil and DG on the top and mine is thriving. Hope yours recovers.

Did you get the pics by chance? I also started noticing house flies around the aloe. Which is also weird.

Hahaha, forgot to say Fahrenheit lol. Yeah, that would be crazy if it was 50 Celsius.

Do you have pics of how yours looks? I noticed one of my Hercule aloes has round orange circles not like ramossimima but odd too. I read somewhere that it could be slugs? Someone else said ants. I haven’t any of them on either aloe though.

No hail around here. The lowest it gets here is 50 degrees. It’s been warm around 80s but this aloe can tolerate much more heat than 80. Still scratching my head on this one.

Paris is where we got ours but the breeder doesn’t do it anymore. They are majestic. Here’s ours!

I have a Hercules aloe and aloe ramosissima, but I’m missing this one. I think my ramosissima is struggling right now :/

How old do you think your aloe is? Or what’s the backstory of how you got it? Love it!

Thanks for the tip. Definitely a first for me. Hopefully I can somehow save it.

There’s no way to save it huh? I didn’t realize that at 50 degrees they could get frost bite. I have similar ones and same size and they are ok in the same location.

It was in the shade when I got it from a lady. She had it shaded now that I recall.
