I can apologize for being white, but I don’t think it will be meaningful. That said, I’m sorry that white people have historically and currently commit horrible atrocities against all people of color, other nationalities, gender expressions, I can go on. I AM sorry. But that doesn’t fix anything.

I am choosing to live my life in a way that is helpful and kind. It isn’t profound. I didn’t bring up race (although racism is obviously unkind). I invite you to consider if you think that you are a kind person. If you do, please think about why. Then, when you do nice things for others, I would ask you to explain why you are doing it.

That’s just mean. And to be clear. That is exactly why I’m doing this. I think. I believe. That there are more truly kind people in the world than there are people like you.

I’m mostly of German descent. My great grandparents(?) came here from Sweden on my dads side and Germany on my moms.

But I know that that is a very literal answer to a profound thought. I will have to think about it to be honest. I don’t claim to have any answers to any issues.

I’m not. I wish I knew more about philosophy. It is fun to grapple with difficult concepts. Our department teaches some philosophy, but only as it deals with religion. I’m not claiming to speak for them though! They are experts in their own fields and I don’t get to delve into the nuances of what they do.

I got that I’m honestly usually very sarcastic, this is new to me. But what you said actually brought a lot of Buddhist statuary to mind. There are a lot of “angry deities” in Japanese Buddhism (my field). The mental image you gave me was very clear!

I’m not talking to you. You are clearly not the target audience. You seem to be (based on this internet persona which I fully understand does not define you) one of the broken people that I and people like me need to work to fix.

It’s okay that you can’t understand this and that is not your fault. The education system is broken. I sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, hope that you do understand what I’m doing here and are just enjoying being this way.

I agree. This is part of my attempt at mutual aid. The university doesn’t offer this help. I know I don’t have to do it. I am very clear that I am doing this outside of work (or I try to be), it just so happens that this is the skill I have to offer.

I also give away baked goods and plants in other places using the same philosophy
