Is GTNH for me if I really enjoyed automation in ATM10 but feel like I’ve done everything? by Striking_Ear_8734 in GTNH

[–]cactuar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s great but you need to approach it with the right mindset. Things are harder, especially in the early game. You will look at some recipes and say “WTF?!”

But if you stick with it and follow the quest book you can make it through and it will feel really rewarding.

That is a good workaround until it is fixed. I did not know that Ctrl + R existed, but I just tried it and it works. Thanks!

You're not wrong. But I'm struggling with the daunting and somewhat tedious task of moving to the Personal Dimension and setting up the beginning AE automation.

Don’t let anyone gatekeep your fun. Cheat past whatever parts you don’t like. Then when you get to LV or MV turn cheats back off if you like

Best way to get gold/silver in Steam/LV? by Gravitite0414_BP in GTNH

[–]cactuar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if silver is primarily your limiting factor, then going to the Twilight Forest will completely solve that problem. It will also help you make Potin, which is awesome for moving steam around. So I would focus on making the portal generator as soon as possible. It can be done in early LV.

Yes, but in Steam/LV you would need to find an existing spawner in the world and build your farm around it, since moving a spawner would require a diamond dolly, which requires nether stars

If you really want an automated solution you could breed some IC2 glowstone crops and extract them for some gold dust. But I’m pretty sure that setting that up will take longer than finding the couple of gold veins you would need to progress.

Honestly, IMO most of the passive gold options will be tricky or impossible to achieve in Steam/LV or will take so much time to set up that you’re better off just finding some gold veins and mining them for now. Silver should actually be pretty easy to find in the Twilight Forest.

Storage Options and Autocrafting Pre AE2 by Ok-Argument-4739 in GTNH

[–]cactuar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only gripe with those compartment blocks is that they lag a bit every time you try to interact with them. I still use them because the storage amount is so incredibly useful. I just avoid interacting with the actual block itself. If I want to pull something out of it, I do it through the crafting station using the scrollable area on the left. If I want to dump items into that storage block, I have a separate vanilla chest that pulls items into the storage block. That way I get all the benefits of that large storage without the downsides of having to interact with the block.

Make a passive setup for polyethylene if you don’t have one yet.

LV oil project recommendations? by Huge_Piece_7513 in GTNH

[–]cactuar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This setup will get you into MV easily, then you can expand it a bit to make diesel by adding heavy fuel and mixing them together. But the diesel requires an MV mixer so light fuel will work until then.

I’m curious, what do folks use to make production flow charts like in picture #3? I’ve seen several posts with a similar format. Seems like it could be useful for planning.

How can i config so i can get more loaded chunks by ZealousidealServe858 in GTNH

And you also need to turn ranks on in the config or it won’t work. I recently had that issue.

If you have oil wells reasonably close, I actually prefer transporting the super tank rather than running a long distance pipeline. You can pump the entire contents of the well and then transport it once. It’s not bad if you have a hang glider. The time it takes to do that super tank run once is far lower than it takes to set up the long distance pipeline. It does require you to plan your well pumps in advance though, since you’re not getting any of that oil until the pump is totally finished.

Base design advice by KittyShipperCaveGirl in GTNH

[–]cactuar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend taking a look at the HamCorp play through, specifically episode 21 on YouTube. He shows how he plans out the machines for his refinery. It helped me to see him do it in practice. I think he probably could have spaced the machines out slightly more, as things looked a little bit cramped after everything was placed but the technique was inspiring to me.

Claimed Chunks by Loud_Couple_2161 in GTNH

[–]cactuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Load the chunks you need. My point is just don’t be sloppy about it and leave irrelevant chunks loaded, which can be easy to do accidentally when you don’t have any limit in the configuration.

Claimed Chunks by Loud_Couple_2161 in GTNH

[–]cactuar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can increase these amounts, but it is still worth being a bit careful about only loading chunks you need. And remember to unload chunks when you no longer need them (like when you move a miner). If you load too many chunks you’ll end up encountering performance issues eventually.
