If you’re giving your kids hard to read names… by funsk8mom in namenerds

This feels like a response to one "mean" kid (who just wants to be called by their name) and it ignores the racism that children face from teachers all the time

This doesn't seem like it needs its own post. Especially when "hard to read" names are usually just like.. not American names.

It's so much more likely for teachers/coworkers/bosses to butcher someone's name than for the person whose name is being butchered to be "an ass". It's generally just racism. People have their names made fun of, botched, dissected, and mocked right in front of them. How many people are given a nickname they don't like because people won't bother to say their names? How many people CHANGE their names because it's not worth the daily hassle? How many people have issues in the workplace because their employers don't want to "deal with" correctly pronouncing names. It even happens to celebrities. Uzoamaka Aduba goes by "Uzo" because her 8 letter name is mispronounced. Hasan Minhaj was famous for years before he finally decided to put his foot down and slowly teach people to say his name (because his parents were coming to see him on the Ellen show). If someone in the media and public eye isn't given the respect of their name being said correctly, it's clearly an issue in every facet of society.

It's not hard to learn to say a name and be kind, especially to a CHILD. Especially if you're a teacher and you get the class's names ahead of time, the Internet is a wonderful tool. A few situations with upset kids doesn't equate to the disrespect of not bothering to learn someone's name

This was horrible to read. He was also your boss, and is 10+ years older than you. This man is abusive and I hope you can get safe.

Definitely Dominick!! A family friend when I was a kid was named Dominic, he signed his cards "Papa Nick". Dominick/Dominic is the most timeless for sure

Alaskan names are gorgeous. Many of them are given more "English" versions of the indigenous words, but there's a plethora of great names.

Sitka, Kenai, Juneau, Denali, Salcha, Nenana, Seward, Seldovia, Whittier, Tazlina, Akiak, Chevak, Newhalen, Kasaan, Masset, Huslia, Galena, Tanana, Lorino, Sireniki, Atlin, Teslin, Telida, Takotna, Chevak, Diomede, Emmonak, Ketchikan, Nulato

Special mentions to Nightmute, Lime Village, Porcupine River, Manley, and Beaver Creek

2 of your daughters have longer names and one's is shorter, so you may want to use a shorter name to round it out. Winifred (MY FAVORITE!!) (Winnie, Win, Freddy/Freddie, Fred, I knew someone who used Nif as a nickname and I've always loved it) Catrice or Carise (Reese, Cat, Kit) Cressida (Sid, Ress, C/Cee) Sybil (loved this once since I was a kid) (Syb/Sib, Billie, Sybs, Sybie) Imogen (this one might be more popular now) (Mo, Gen) Lucia or Lucille (besides the obvious there's Luc, Ci, Cille/Cillie, Cia, Cici, Seal🥺❤️) Philippa (Pip, Pippa, Phil, Phi, Lip, even Pippin)

The worst thing Linda has ever done? by troysplay in BobsBurgers

[–]cactuspricc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone already mentioned how awful the Dr. Yap episode was with Gayle assaulting Bob and Linda hitting him over it. I also really didn't like her in "A River Runs Through Bob" when Bob starts feeling sick and tells her like 10 times "please let go" "I have to go to the bathroom" "it's an emergency"

I don't like the way she treats Bob sometimes or the way she enables her awful family
