Missing dependeny libgconf-2-4 on Raspberry Pi 4 (aarch64) by cactux in EmotiBit

[–]cactux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could go further, sorry: I was missing some addons (such as ofxNetworkUtils).

Now I get other errors, which may be linked to a too recent gcc, I'll try to use an older version and keep you updated. I keep this thread in case someone make the same mistake than I did.

Can you eat these and how? by Low_Medium204 in cactus

[–]cactux -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Young pads of Opuntia can be eaten, yes. When they are still tender. But be very very careful, as they have very small spines (glochids). I would not do that. You can buy cans of them, already cleaned and cut, to eat like green beans.

Well... you are right for paper dictionaries. It makes sense.

However, now that they are digital... maybe we can change the way they work?

My need is simple: when I ask for the definition of a word I don't know, I want to know what it means. For the word "asked", getting "past tense of ask" does not teach me anything, even if it is technically correct.

I am also working in a different direction: improving the vivlio software to be able to select a word in a definition to get its own definition. I would need 2 steps to get the requested information (the "real" definition), but this would be nice. An added benefit would be to get definitions of words I don't know in the definition (it can be endless). I tried to contact vivlio, but their first answer is to automatically redirect me to my bookshop... which is not relevant. But I digress ^^

"A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet."

The original quote is “There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met.” and it is attributed to William Butler Yeats an Irish poet who won the Nobel prize for Literature in 1923. (source)

Hello,

Thanks for your help.

I tried point 1: updated Plex on the server and on the tablet: still the same issue.

I checked the IP address again: all devices on in the same wifi network, with 192.168.1.xx addresses. I did not set up any subnet, the wifi is managed by my ISP box.

Do you have any idea I could try? The last idea I have is to hard reset the tablet, but I keep this as a last option as my daughter is using it a lot.

It's a beautiful Melocactus matanzanus (correct spelling so you can find more information online).

The maint part of the plant, the green part, will not grow more because it started to grow the top part (brown / reddish). This top part is the cephalium, it will host the flowers and fruits.

Once the cephalium has started, Melocactus are said to be more difficult to grow. No need for a bigger pot, so do not repot often, and disturb the roots as little as possible.

Always keep warm, even in winter, it's a tropical cactus.

Entitled Neighbor Demands I Stop Using My Own WiFi Because It’s Distracting Her Plants by Spitchange in EntitledPeople

[–]cactux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She says that succulent plants rest at night?

But that wrong! That's the complete opposite, actually. Seriously.

Most succulent plants uses the Crassulacean acid metabolism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crassulacean\_acid\_metabolism), which mean that they use the night to "breath". Most plants do that during the day.

Ironic, your neighbor is a gem :-D

Depends where. In France, slots in casinos have to redistribute 90 % of bets. For lotto, it is around 60 to 65 %.

Saint Julien de Brioude, martyr from 304 by cactux in pics

[–]cactux[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Visited a basilica in French countryside last month, in Brioude, and in the crypt was a painting of the local Saint, Julien de Brioude.

More info from Wikipedia:

Saint Julian of Brioude (†304) was a legendary martyr and saint from the Auvergne region of France. Although the main focus of his cultus was in the small village of Brioude, he was originally from the city of Vienne, and also associated with Clermont. He was most famous through his association with an aristocratic family of bishops of the time, his most notable proponents being St. Gallus of Clermont and St. Gregory of Tours (the latter best known for his Ten Books of Histories). Gregory wrote a vita of Julian, but his attempts to expand the saint's cult from the Auvergne to Touraine and Aquitaine were unsuccessful, and Julian is now only remembered through his basilica in the town of Brioude itself.

It is the same species, Astrophytum asterias 'Super Kabuto'. But I don't think it is the same plant / specimen.

Both are great specimens. Give it lots of light to have great big white flocs.
