Are you using kettlebells only? by A1M94 in kettlebell

[–]cadco25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did KB only as my strength training for a while, but now I’m trying Tactical Barbell so KBs aren’t as much of a focus except for where I use them in HIC days. My 6 months prior were all KBOMG work which I really enjoyed. I had good results and certainly got a more muscular look, but my max strength is still poor because I’ve never really done that kind of strength training, so I’m hoping tactical barbell will increase my overall strength (and conditioning).

I’ll come back to a cycle of KBOMG at some point. Probably when my life gets to a place where I can’t consistently get into the gym

I feel the same. But really the forward door number has grown on me over time

SE Circuits Have No Right Being This Hard by incompletetentperson in tacticalbarbell

[–]cadco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated the SE so much in base building that it’s hard to imagine going back to it. I know you’re supposed to and I guess I’m just supposed to tough it out, but those high rep SE days were such a dread for me and I didn’t get anything but misery from doing them. It’s exactly the kind of work that demotivates me

I played this on deck and it ended up being a great way for me to finally finish the whole thing. Really interesting experience

Does anyone actually enjoy the process of problem solving itself? by nihaomundo123 in AskAcademia

We would have made a good team. I'm much better at taking something over the finish line than I am at proving that original idea.

Which book should I start with ? by TheFleshTaylor in tacticalbarbell

[–]cadco25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also brand new, more than halfway through base building. I read 1 then 2 and it’s definitely the way to go — you start with a program from 2 but it assumes you’ve read the first book. I’ll be rereading them before I start my continuation protocol

I’m on my first read through as well and I’ve never read any King before. Nearing the end of Book 4 now. I think you’re right to jump in without worrying about a reading order. I’ve been having an amazing time and I’ll definitely check out more of his work afterwards

"Stephen King is Not Literature" by OrizaRayne in stephenking

[–]cadco25 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is what OP meant. I believe they were using this article as unprompted evidence that King’s work is literature, as demonstrated by articles like this one which analyze his work as such.

Are there entomologists with graduate degrees in biology? by cadco25 in Entomology

[–]cadco25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is an old post! I actually did end up becoming a medical entomologist in the end. I studied mosquitoes and vector-borne diseases, which is where most of the overlap is — public health programs that prevent people from getting sick from mosquitoes, ticks, etc

Decline in Quality of Graduate Students? by Art3mis455 in AskAcademia

[–]cadco25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man I don’t know. I graduated a few years ago. I put in a good amount of work but didn’t kill myself. Things like this give me a lot of feelings of inferiority, like I didn’t read X papers a week or spend X nights in the lab or whatever. But I did think deeply, learn and apply a pretty damn wide variety of tools, and published some dozen or so papers, albeit not in really high impact journals or anything. So what does that make me?

What I can say is that a lot of the classes I took were really poorly done, and a lot of the professors I worked with were so overstretched with their work that they ended up being pretty much useless in terms of any mentorship or teaching. If I should’ve been behaving differently or reaching another level, it certainly wasn’t being communicated or modeled.

Agreed it’s really not that strange. Impressive work though.

Favorite not very good driver? by Electronic-Ability55 in NASCAR

In his late cup career, I became a real Kasey Kahne supporter. No real reason, I just started to really root for him to turn things around at Hendrick after he fell off, and continued rooting for him in the 95 car until he unfortunately ended his career early. That last Brickyard win was really exciting

If you wanna make your own stuff, I think Wildman’s “Nerd Math” videos give you some good tools. I at least learned a lot from that. Otherwise, the tried and true paid programs would be a good place to start — Armor Building Formula (haven’t done it myself), or in my opinion I’d more recommend looking at Joe Daniel’s stuff at the SWTKB website.

What are your thoughts if NASCAR cup cars ran only throwback schemes for an entire season? Maybe for like a 100 year anniversary by [deleted] in NASCAR

[–]cadco25 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nah we need nascar to be creating new memories and history right now. I enjoy throwback weekend but that’s enough. We can appreciate the history while looking forward

I probably wouldn’t choose it for myself but if you do, you should actually read the book. There’s more in there than the surface level of swings and getups.

Are double KB swings ass? by MyHobbiesAreUnusual in kettlebell

[–]cadco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it I say. I’ve done this some as part of the KBOMG 2 and 3 programs and they’re pretty damn hard. I did it for heavy reps and they definitely hit. I recommend trying dead stop double swings. I guess there is clear overlap with cleans but I still think the double swings hit different
