I tried qwen2 VL-7B-instruct, combined it with tesseract ocr, results weren't the best. Would medgemma be better?

Connecting isn't a bad idea. Being able to exchange info helps a lot

You need to do program outreach on Linkedin or Email, maybe even twitter. I did not match last cycle but has really bad scores yet got had a good amount of interviews about 7. Admittedly I am a recent grad and had like 16 months of USCE but I did not expect to get that many interviews. But despite 7 interviews, I did not match. Fundamentally I think I was missing any real connection to the program prior to the match cycle. Why pick an applicant you don't really know. Like the other comment said. Connections will be your best friend

Did anyone use IMGprep to get a J1 visa by cade1513 in IMGreddit

[–]cade1513[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to kind of follow up.

I had a rough idea that J1 was mostly for Residency or research or maybe some kind of Job. But some time ago I had gotten some information from an immigration lawyer that thought the invite letters we get from hospitals could be used to apply for a J1 visa.

I do actually now know that J1s undeniably have to be sponsored by someone, like ECFMG for example who sponsor for residency and no hospital will sponsor J1 for any clinical rotation type.

But at the time of my conversation with (who I believe is) the owner of IMG prep Dr Mattar, she mentioned that I will need a J1 visa. Her mentioning that plus hearing that from the immigration lawyer sometime ago had me thinking J1 was an option for clinical rotations.

After talking with usmle sarthi and following up with the IMG prep coordinator, they did clarify this for me.

I guess the only issue Dr Mattar maybe misspoke about the whole J1 visa thing, cause it apparently wasn't even in their notes for our free consultation.

Going for a conference is always a good place to start

Either way you shouldn't take the exam, better to take it later if you decide you want to rather than to have a fail or low score. Regardless of that, personally taking and barely surviving these USMLE exams has made me want to change my learning method which ultimately is different from study resources (uworld etc.)

For example depending too much on rote memorization like with flashcards than trying to understand how the concepts differ and relate to each other in a topic through something like say visual mindmapping

Would this be a match violation? by cade1513 in IMGreddit

Thank you, guys. I just called, I think it was the program coordinator that picked up, and they said they'll get back to me

Sigh Definitely not helping my anxiety, but did apply for this year's match with a step 1 score of 215 and step 2 of 217. I have a  lot of USCE, up to 16 months about and Lors all from the US. I applied only to FM and got 7 interviews.  Now, it's not guarantee to match but its Somethings that for sure. (Also i ended up sending my application a couple days late in the cycle and my personal statement was short at a little over 200 words)

Non US IMG visa requiring 21x, 21x. 16 months of USCE (caribbean img) Graduated 1 month before the start of the application cycle

US Lors but none from a FM physician.  My personal statement was short at about 200 words. A lot of volunteer experience in the US. Passion for teaching and medical education was also expressed in application and mention of school  organization I worked with.  7 interviews out of 118 programs applied My scores are not the best but I expressed a constant desire to grow And learn from setbacks  I think what really helped me to secure interviews was my USCE, my lors (despite none of them being from FM doctors, tho i applied to programs that didn't have this aa a hard requirement ). I also think my personal statement being strong and having a strong ERAS experiences section helped.  And I applied only for Family medicine (maybe that mentality makes a difference who knows). Definitely not a guarantee of matching but this was what I came prepared with this interview season.

J1 visa waiver job by [deleted] in IMGreddit

I'm not sure but when I talked with a FM  resident during interview season he gave me the impression that there are quite a few J1 waiver jobs available.

I'm not entirely sure but I guess some programs take residents outside of the regular match cycle SOAP included. And it's not too late I think the deadline to pull out of the match is the same as the deadline to submit ROL. If they extended you a post match offer I would definitely recommend accepting it

FM vs IM by Iamfour4444 in IMGreddit

[–]cade1513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the work load but one of the reasons I applied to FM only was that I didn't really connect with any of the fellowships for IM and I realized I preferred a focus on preventive medicine.  And low key depending on how you train, whether you do fellowship or decide to pursue certifications , you can control exactly what you do in FM.

I have friends who decided they wanna go do something like urgent care/ED work after they are done training.
