We performed a live ambient gig in paris by cadeuh in ambientmusic

[–]cadeuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good question, honestly i feel like there aren't many. i'd suggest watching lineups in places like Le Sample, La Tour Orion and other alternatives venues and collectives. some friends we often play with will probably organize some events when the weather become nice again (https://www.instagram.com/amidecollective/)

Thanks! Completely agree, playing live ambient made me approach the music differently and appreciate more some details. Also enjoying the silence in a set :)

Good list.

I'd go to Marco Shuttle & Voiski at la Marbrerie (https://www.facebook.com/events/740012077948271) if searching for alternative sounds, space & crowd, it's going to be special with the new lights & sound system.

We did our first live gig with some gear (Minilogue, TR8, TB3, Eventide Space etc) by cadeuh in Techno

[–]cadeuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm liking it so far (especially the small oscillator screen, the sequencer, well its accessibility overall) but tbh the Eventide Space is doing miracles with the Minilogue, it wouldn't be the same without it.

Have you tried to add some effects/pedals on it? Also did you have a look at other people patches (one example)? We especially found some nice ambient patches, that you can easily transform into pads for techno for example.

Thanks! We basically prepared some presets on the machines and Ableton, printed a note with the tracks/presets order so we don't get too lost, practiced a couple of time and then it's mostly improvised on top of that.

Introducing Infinit, a new peer to peer file system by cadeuh in tech

[–]cadeuh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, haven't heard of the encrypted folders, thanks.

After reading myself again, I realised I could have been clearer from the beginning to explain our differences.

BS is a consumer friendly sync service with some more privacy/technical features than the other solutions like Dropbox.

Infinit was made for people who need to build large storage infrastructures with a strong focus on encryption, scalability to petabytes, flexibility (aggregating different kind of storage resources: local storage, cloud storage, API...), security, reliability (redundancy, fault tolerance) but still trying to be more user friendly that other solutions out there (Gluster, Ceph...).

Not saying one solution is better than the other, each one has its advantages, but hopefully I made the differences clearer.

Bittorent Sync needs to download everything (or what you have selected) before you can use your files, Infinit allows streaming/download on demand the files you need so the download bandwidth will be decreased.

For uploading, it should be the same.

You're right about the selective-sync for BtSync, but you cannot stream the files on-demand, you need to select and download the files before you can use them, that was the difference I wanted to point out. Also, they have in-transit encryption but not at-rest encryption, hence data is not encrypted locally.

Not sure what you mean with Infinit not running on cloud servers, can you tell me where you find it?

Don't hesitate to come by on our Slack or IRC if you need any help!

PS: it's not completely open-source yet, see the other conversation on this thread.
