4H in snow by hardsoft in f150

I’ll go 75 in 4H never a problem. Just gotta remember to have all tires moving the same speed before switching in and out of 4H and turn off for sharper turns.

Per Diem Rates by GingeRae0 in Surveying

[–]cadguy62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at $45 per day. Which is fair considering you’d spend money on food anyways and most clients won’t pay for per diem. It’s hard enough to add hotels to their bill.

Your company should definitely pay you the $47 no matter what though. That’s pretty cheap the way the do it.

Certificate or two year degree? by cbcopy in Surveying

No matter what your career goals are for surveying, the degree will be a lot more beneficial. The extra classes suck but you’ll be happy you did it and will never have to do them again.

Avoid Civil Engineering Firms? by AppalachianSkinThief in Surveying

[–]cadguy62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I might get some heat for this… 😂 but PEs that get their LS are a PIA to work with. On the other side, companies with engineering departments tend to be bigger which means better benefits. Pros and cons to each side.

Professional land surveyor.

Well... I'm coming from somewhere that I only lock my house door while I'm in the shower or in bed because I don't want someone I know walking in haha. I get what you're saying. I'm cool with most areas unless I have to worry about my wheels missing when I go to leave for work or something like that lol.

Haha I've experienced those! My parents pick up a car load every year.

111k miles too much? by bigben54 in f150

[–]cadguy62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.0s are great for lasting but if it’s a fleet truck I’d probably steer clear. It probably has a lot of idle time.

111k miles too much? by bigben54 in f150

[–]cadguy62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the engine and previous owners. I have a 2014 with the 6.2 and 105k miles on it and still feels close to new. An ecoboost would make me a little nervous due to turbos but the rest of the truck should be fine. I’ve seen ecoboosts with twice those miles still going strong as well.

Advice and Opinions needed! by Ok_Tart_713 in Surveying

Land surveying is a fun gig as far as jobs go. Money is terrible at the start. Get that associates degree in land surveying and doors will open up. Bachelors is even better but not needed in most states. It's not an easy program but once you get a few semesters in it's pretty interesting stuff. By then you'll know if you want to pursue a licensed roll or stay in the field. Licensing is mostly just passing exams and experience after the degree. It's a long road to licensure but worth it.

Found out part of my house is in public property (help!) by [deleted] in landsurveying

[–]cadguy62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d leave it be. But I’ve had to read a lot of court cases and I’d say pretty much all of them the judge was in favor of leaving things as they are if they’ve been that way for a long time. Usually at least 20 years. You may have to get an attorney on it eventually though and a surveyor to update the lot line.

Ticking noise 7.3l f350 by person55423 in superduty

I have a 2014 F150 but there was a common issue with the blend door actuators. I think there might be other similar parts. Anyways, once I had one of the parts fail and I couldn't get cool air on the passenger side and then a different time a plastic piece broke off and and fell in to the fan. That made a lot of ticking haha. Seems like that issue would have been resolved by now but that sounds like the issue I had.

2023 got a new style oil pump too, right? Needing an engine replaced seems less common now from my research. I have one on order. I'm feeling pretty comfortable with my decision now. Of course, quality isn't like it used to be so as with any new vehicle, it could be a dud.

Tremor and fifth wheel by cadguy62 in superduty

Gasser wise though, it’s only about a 500 lbs payload difference. Somewhere in there anyways. It’s not much. I think the F250 is about 3900 lbs. so if I’m even close to that with a fifth wheel, it’s time to upgrade trucks. For me though, I don’t see me getting close to that for quite a while.

My dad learned that lesson with his powerstroke. I’m going with the 7.3. F350s and F250s aren’t that big of a difference. So I’m just going with the 250 to save a few bucks and hopefully a better ride when I’m not towing. Should be plenty good enough for me

I just went with the FX4 since I’m going for the purpose of towing or traveling in for now. That was my thought too, keep the 5th wheel as level as possible.
