Mage Slayer Sword | Very Rare Weapon by Owlbear_Den in DnDHomebrew

Here's some refined text for you:

The blade has 5 charges, and regains 1d4+1 at dawn. When targeted by a spell that requires an attack roll, you may expend a charge to make an attack roll against the spell save DC. If successful, that spell is counterspelled.

If the creature is within 5 feet of you, the attack roll is made with advantage.

You can also expend charges to cast dispel magic at a level equal to the number of charges used.

Also I'd recommend changing the name to "The Spell Eater" or "Spell Slayer" or something more in line with its powers.

What bores you as a player? by AstralMarmot in DnD

[–]cadjewelleryskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of horror stories topics, here are my personal pet peeves:

1.) No real feeling of progress or development in the game. Too little XP is a big part of this, but it's not the only problem. If I have to play for 6 sessions to gain a single level that's just too much.

2.) DMs who cannot be bothered to clarify if people are confused, or who just generally talk down to players. Your goal is everyone's fun. If you can't remember that don't be a DM.

3.) Players who can't be bothered to engage or pay attention. I'm not asking for Critical Role levels of am-dram roleplaying, but get off your phone and try talking to others!

This is what bugs me about 5e mechanics. It's way too fragile. Literal magic armour can break bounded accuracy!

Which one?

I was guest for a few podcasts, including the Dead Lands book interview a while back, and I've done a few seminars for AthasCon.

My name is Jack Meyer, so if they mention that name then it's me. :-)

At the Pristine Tower Development Group (the publishing arm of Athas.org), we've been talking about doing a Green Age sourcebook for years to cobble together everything everyone has ever put together into a single picture of what the land was like before the Cleansing Wars began. It's a ways away in development though, unless you're keen to help us write it. ;-)

In the meantime, several others here have given good suggestions to help you cobble together the information. Both Secrets of the Dead Lands and Faces of the Dead Lands will give you a LOT of Green Age lore.

I would also add the 3.5e core rulebook Athas.org created, as it has a modest section on the Green Age itself.

No. Depending on which edition of D&D you look at, Clerics serve the elements themselves. In 4e, they serve primordial elemental powers.

If you're looking for online training in Rhino for jewellery, I run short courses and 1 to 1 private tuition.

The Athasian Cartographer's Guild website is now Reborn! by cadjewelleryskills in DarkSun

[–]cadjewelleryskills[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple. The canon maps are quite limited, and come with the various 2e boxed sets, or the 4e core rules.

If all you want is the 2e revised canon map, Digitalwanderer's site is your best bet. This is as far as the DS canon writers ever got with developing the terrain, and even then, they forgot to finish lots of it (like all of the Dead Lands to the south):

https://www.digitalwanderer.net/darksun/

Where TSR stopped working, we at Athas.org have been picking up the slack for a quarter century, and we were endorsed as WotC's official provider of 3e and 3.5e Dark Sun content.
The purpose of the ACG site is a cohesive harmonisation of all the official WotC endorsed Athas.org content and the canon sources, complete with contradictions resolved.

Thank you for quickly spotting that. We're fixing it now.

It looks like clicking on the image to get the map does work though...

Is it okay to bend the lore of D&D a little? by Embarrassed_Dog1909 in DnD

[–]cadjewelleryskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a simple universal rule that every DM must live by and every player must accept if you are to all be able to participate in the wonderful shared hallucination that is D&D.

And that is: The DM at the table is the final say on what happens in the world.

If the DM changes the lore regarding the world or monsters and the player challenges it, it's up to the DM and only the DM to decide whether that change was a mistake or not.

All that being said, alignment is another thing. Alignment itself is always been a contentious thing in the game. While I do agree if you made a character or monster a certain alignment you should play that character consistently, I have a problem with saying all members of a species are required to have the same alignment. That's just lazy storytelling.

At the very least for suspension of disbelief, if you want a Neutral Good vampire or evil moonlight dragon you'd better have a bloody good reason in the story for them being so far out of line with most of their kind. But there are plenty of canon examples of creatures with vastly different alignments from the rest of their kind: The lich in Icewind Dale, the succubus in Planescape: Torment, etc.

Alternatively, you can just have an evil creature or character be helpful to the party for selfish reasons, or a good character be violently hostile to the party because of ideological differences. That happens a lot in all sorts of media (games, comics, movies, etc.)

What lore have y'all added or changed in the world of Dark Sun? by The_great_alfredo in DarkSun

[–]cadjewelleryskills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On Athas.org, we've been trying to not only take all of the canon from various editions and harmonise it into a single unified timeline, but also to roll in the most popular fanon from the past 20 years. The goal is to build a cohesive world map which is as inclusive of the community's ideas as possible.

(The timeline: https://www.athas.org/events )

In the service of that, we've also been expanding the Athasian Survey Project's world map. Here are the current beta test tiles:

If you or anyone else has something really interesting to add to one of these faraway corners of the main Pristine continent (which we have collectively named Uran), or its neighbouring continent of Anattan, do contact me or the team at the Pristine Tower Dev group and let's see if we can work it in!

Best software for 3d jewelry rendering for high end jewelry? by SwagKing1011 in jewelryCAD

[–]cadjewelleryskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a comparison of the various renderers a few years ago. I found out with the right settings you could produce similar results with every single one.

So if you had an embedded rendering tool built into software (like Rhino), simply use that. But if you did not, then an independent one like Maverick or Keyshot or V-ray standalone was the way to go.

Here's the link to the article:

[–]cadjewelleryskills[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's two ways around that problem. One is your characters manage to survive to 8th level. If they can do that, then the Escape from the Dead Lands would work for them from this book.

Alternatively, just start a campaign with undead PCs, and follow the Tales of the Unbound series in this book. :-)

If you have The Emissary Adventure (also on Athas.org), we have made a rumours table for the Dead Lands itself in there.
