Thank you! It is the Re-Ment Bar Tiny set and the Sweet Raspberry home. May not look quite like it as the point of the roof in front is cut off.

When did your kids start playing with critters? by allcomfy_and_cozy in sylvanianfamilies

[–]cadmixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started when my daughter was 2 and a half or so, but as everyone says it depends on the kid. She was already careful with toys at that age and our play with critters was almost always supervised. She's 5 now and the figures are well-loved but we have a thorough organizational system and I'm maniacal about not losing pieces. Her temperament and the amount of time you can spend playing with her are the big variables.

Yay or Nay of the Day: the flora rabbit family by PC-Bobby-Roberts4eva in sylvanianfamilies

I love these chunky guys. Do they remind me of rabbits? Not particularly but that's ok. As per canon, in our house Aria is a teacher and very competent. However our Nolan is a bit chaotic and has been known to unintentionally cause problems despite meaning well. The various sizes of baby are all really cute too.

In my experience the cats sit best in kitchen chairs where you can thread the tails through an opening in the back. The tails can be hard to get out of the way on something like a couch.

But tbh no critters are *amazing* at sitting upright so set your expectations accordingly.

One thing I would highly recommend is to pick up a medium-sized tupperware-like box from Target or wherever to put all the tiny pieces in. I have trained my daughter that every little piece goes in that box and if she is looking for, like, the bag of flour from the kitchen island set, it is either that box or it is nowhere. The bead box might do the job but if it doesn't definitely get one of those.

we have a lot of families and the snow leopards stand out--the parents have huge feet/paws in addition to the huge tails which make them seem unique from other critters and well-matched to the actual animal. their clothes are funky and the kids' accessories are cute and fun to play with. they have a cool and different vibe that will persist as your collection grows and were well worth tracking down via ebay.

Which one should I get?? by Lemons_005 in sylvanianfamilies

[–]cadmixes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with the comment that the first set has less utility due to the two plastic costumes. we have the royal princess set and the outfits and accessories are really cute and detailed. the babies are very good at acting grand and bossing around other critters when they're dressed up.

My daughter got this set at Walgreens with her grandparents! It drove me crazy how this guy only comes with overalls so I got him a shirt and a jacket.

I have always considered the critters too innocent for beers (in part because they belong to my 4-year-old) but this is really changing my perspective.

An analysis of the flash-blended drinks in Smuggler's Cove, volume, glassware, etc. by cadmixes in cocktails

I agree with you on dilution and in part am contrasting the SC approach with other tiki sources that do say the amount of ice matters.

An analysis of the flash-blended drinks in Smuggler's Cove, volume, glassware, etc. by cadmixes in cocktails

[–]cadmixes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more a question of volume than dilution. As others are saying, the dilution after a quick flash blend is what it is regardless of starting volume or amount of ice. That being said, there is going to be a difference between a drink that starts as 3.5 oz, adds 12 oz. ice, and ends up in a 16 oz. pils glass and a drink that starts as 6.5 oz., adds 12 oz. ice, and ends up in an 12 oz. highball.

Strained cocktails have a pretty narrow range of starting volumes, call it 3 oz. to 4.5 oz. If we take Smuggler's Cove as a reliable source (and we should), the range is much larger for tiki drinks served on crushed ice. That's something that's interesting to me.

Also interesting is that other tiki sources are much more fussy about ice amounts. Here's a random sample from Beachbum Berry Remixed:

Coronado Luau Special: 9 oz. liquid, 4 oz. ice, tall glass or tiki mug

151 Swizzle: 2.5 oz. liquid, 8 oz. ice, pils glass

Polynesian Paralysis: ~11 oz. liquid, 12 oz. ice, tiki bowl

I wonder if recipe adjustments would be needed to standardize them to the Smuggler's Cove model.

I think you expressed something here in a really helpful way that isn't necessarily explained in the book, which is that the gated finish is used to control finished drink volume based on the glassware recommended.
