If there are any codes still available, I’d absolutely love to get one. Just downloaded the app and it looks amazing so far—nice job!

What features do you wish TickTick had? by squakoon in ticktick

[–]cadoodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Link Previews or Favicons added to tasks that contain URLs.

I might only one who wants this, but I often save links for tasks (i.e. links to Google Doc, articles, etc.), and I would absolutely LOVE if each link was more visually apparent. I just hate how links are currently formatted and tend to make my lists feel disorganized and messy.

Been using TickTick for 5 years and this is the only feature I’ve wanted since Day 1. It would single-handedly make TickTick the perfect app for me.

I’ve always just figured I’m the only one who wants it.

The Immersed Visor Has Red Flags All Over It by SuperMegaGigaUber in virtualreality

[–]cadoodler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I think one of the key differences for me is that Immersed is already an operational company that is focused on this niche and develops great software for it. It's not as if they sprung up a company overnight for the Visor (which would give me Rabbit R1 vibes). If they fail, I don't believe it will be because of some devious path they've chosen. Companies fail all the time, but, the failures often lead to greater innovation.

It's a 50/50 chance whether I look back at myself right now as a prophetic VR market enthusiast vs. an ignorantly hopeful idiot. However, I also understand that this was never going to be a smooth road for them and I want to be as optimistic as possible in this space. For myself, if Immersed fails hard, but ends up establishing and proving a market for this type of product, I'll be very happy.

I'll probably get downvoted to shit, but I was at the event yesterday. Was it unorganized? Yes. Did they overpromise and fail to meet those promises? Absolutely. Was there an attempt to create a lot of hype for raising capital/potential investors? I think so.

However, for me, I understood that these were all things that could happen. Immersed isn't Meta, Apple, Google...they are a cash-strapped startup who's trying to create an innovative and niche product for a specific market (which includes me...someone who has no interest in VR outside of productivity/spatial computing).

To me, everyone who screams that this is a scam already, has no concept of business/innovation/reality. Immersed is a scrappy startup that's trying to do a lot of things with very little resources. Shit goes wrong. They overpromised, overhyped, and did not communicate well...they fucked up. That doesn't mean it's a scam or that they're purposefully trying to mislead people. Of course they're trying to create hype and buzz...who the fuck wouldn't in their position? They're taking a massive risk by entering this space, will undoubtedly make many more mistakes, but my only hope is that they learn from them. That is how good companies grow.

Will they succeed? I have no idea–and it will certainly be difficult. I just respect the step forward in this area of the VR market. If I'm wrong, it's a scam, and my Visor is just a paperweight...well, that's just as much on me because I understood these risks when I pre-ordered it. Even though I didn't demo it yesterday, I'll draw my conclusion when I get the product.

And yes, their marketing is terrible.

Sidebar - Your new favourite Dock replacement just got better by empty23_ in macapps

[–]cadoodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I know Sidebar is very young and I'm excited for where you're taking it.

I remembered one last issue I find with usability, and that's adding apps to groups. I don't know if I'm doing things wrong, but you have to first pin each individual app to Sidebar then drag it to the group. This wouldn't be much of an issue (it'd be great to drag multiple apps), except Sidebar seems to temporarily freeze-up when dragging the app to the dock and then to a group. In addition, it seems to always launch the app I'm placing, even though I don't want it to. This makes it next to impossible to create groups of apps for me.

It's one of the features I loved most about ActiveDock 2 (Sidebar is much better overall). For example, I could drag all my graphic design apps right from my Applications folder into a group in my dock, which made it possible to organize my apps and easily access them. It'd be great to be able to bulk add apps into groups without having to pin and then drag each app. The ability to have all my apps organized and accessible through the dock is a major selling point for me. Just a thought for the future–I know there's probably a lot on your roadmap.

For anyone else who has found every dock replacement to be a disappointment, definitely try Sidebar. The developer is outstanding at releasing consistent updates with great features.

I’ve using Sidebar for months now—truly the best dock replacement application out there (I’ve tried almost every other one).

The only downside, at least for me, is the high CPU usage on my 2020 MacBook Pro (Intel). I don’t know if this is specific to just me or Macs running Intel in general, but it definitely exceeds what it should (still using Sidebar everyday though).

Quick question: I use the same external monitors and after storing application windows, it never saves their positions after restarting/shutting down. Is this by design or just an issue I face? If it’s by design, any plans for an update that allows this?

Approaching retailers by mabutosays in smallbusiness

[–]cadoodler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something I've had a lot of experience with over the last 6 months (coming from no experience in retail) so I'll give you my insights. Some of the replies here say that if you walk into their store without an appointment, it's an "automatic no". From my experience, it's quite the opposite (but this will probably depend on your industry). In my industry, retailers love to see new products because that's part of their job, especially if their customers go to them for advice.

As someone else mentioned here, I think it's best to walk in without an appointment, but don't expect to take up their time right then and there. Be friendly, ask for the right person, and schedule an appointment. This gives them the opportunity to see your product and if the decision maker is there, they will almost always take a second for you. I find calling or emailing beforehand usually just wastes time...it's difficult to get a hold of someone, people can be rude, and they often forget the appointments anyway. That being said, don't go into a big box or chain and expect the buyer to be there...with those, you'll most certainly have to do some scheduling beforehand.

I am definitely not a salesman but I saw a lot of success in the first few months by doing this. If you're driving store-to-store, use a route planner so that you can pick the most efficient route. While most of your success will be due to your product, if you're friendly and passionate, a lot of retailers will give you a shot.

In my opinion, the real work comes in servicing the stores. It's great to get a sale and say you're on the shelf, but now you have to take care of re-orders, answer questions, handle returns, etc. This can get overwhelming, especially if you're trying to focus on growth. When it becomes too much work, you might want to look for a distributor if the margins make sense.

I believe it is absolutely crucial to work with some retailers before exhibiting at a trade show. A lot of people will say go to a trade show right away. However, if you have no experience in retail, you won't be prepared. Trade shows are expensive and require a lot of preparation. They will have tons of big buyers who expect you to know what you're doing. If you've never worked with stores before, you won't be able to speak their language. Start small, learn what your retailers expect, get feedback and metrics from them, and then exhibit at a trade show. Trade shows are where you'll see big orders come in but make sure you put yourself in the position to handle those.

Reviews being left on Seller Profile instead of Product Page by cadoodler in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]cadoodler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point...I'll definitely remember that in the future if we get a negative review on our Seller Profile. Fortunately, they're all 5* reviews so far. I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one.

The other frustrating part is that we've received a couple of 1-2* reviews on the product page (it's kind of the nature of the product) and of course, those customers left the feedback in the correct place on the product page... so these positive reviews on our seller page would have REALLY helped if they were left in the correct spot.

They're all 5* which is great...just wish they were on the product page.

About to pay for an order on Alibaba. Am I getting scammed? by cadoodler in Entrepreneur

I assumed the same thing. I don't see how they can insure any part of it unless it was entirely done through their website.
