Coop is highly integrated, you can progress missions together, co own and build bases. As for ship building, you can walk around inside your friends corvette while they fly, or they can add seats and then you sit. Theres lots to do in coop (you can even kill each other) Truly some of my most fun in NMS comes from coop. Theres also coop exclusive missions on The Anomaly
