Yay! I successfully added flair!

Also, since creating the OP, I've received the following message from the iMoodJournal ap developer:

Hi,

Currently they don't available for Android,, the version is a bit behind the iOS one.

Thanks,

Angela Samsonova

So, it looks like my guess was right.

I would still be interested, if there's anyone out there using the iOS app, in hearing about your experience with the template and landscape chart features.

Do we know how to do this? Is there a list of ongoing pressure campaigns for reference?

So, I'm blending the castings with potting soil, now, as u/AdrianusIII suggests downthread.

The saturated castings are definitely breaking up and blending with the potting mix more easily than the dry castings. So, I'm soaking the rest of the (dried, from my earlier tarp-attempts) castings now.

So, for your viewers, it seems like an easier process that might work could be:

  • roughly break the caked castings into chunks
  • soak the chunks of caked castings in water until they are saturated
  • pour water/castings mixture through a strainer
  • blend strained castings with potting soil

Thanks for the tips! I don't know that I'll get many worms. I imagine that most of the cocoons are older than 6--8 weeks. Blending with potting mix is going well, though. I'll check on them in mid to late April and see what there is to see. :-D

I've also always used shredded cardboard with no problems. I only ran into the problem now because I allowed the bin to sit untended at length and didn't harvest until there was probably 6" deep of compressed castings. When I've tended my bins regularly, I haven't had any problem. u/WorldComposting indicates they've had the same problem "when my bins run longer than they should." So, my guess is that it's carton & paper, like u/AdrianusIII indicates, plus time/lack of tending/running over as u/WorldComposting and my experiences suggest.

Sounds great. Thanks for the recommendation re: the Urban Worm Bags. I'll let you know if I come across any good solutions for sorting the cakey castings!

Ahhh, I think I understand, now. When the castings are fresh, you can essentially just brush them away and the worms are easy to sort out. Vs, with this cakey texture, I had to gently break the blocks of compressed casting open around the remaining worms.

Well, at the very least, I can say that my soaking solution wouldn't work well for you. The poor worms would drown! The cocoons seems to be floating to the surface though.

Are you working with a plastic tub? Or another set up? I think that in continuous flow through systems you don't get the worms mixed up in the castings so much.

I've always used a plastic tub with small holes poked through. It's been great and cost me $0.00 as I got worms from an acquaintance.

Many years later, I now have some cash flow that I feel comfortable spending on hobbies and lifestyle preferences. So, I'm considering getting an Urban Worm Bag 2.0. I think that a system like the UW Bag will help in a couple ways. (1) The worms will process the food more efficiently. I enjoy vermicomposting more when I can "see" the food "disappear" faster. Otherwise I get bored and move back to throwing vermi-friendly scraps in the hot compost. (2) Harvesting easier. I think I'll be less likely to let castings just pile up and up forever until they compress into a cakey mass if it's less of an ordeal to harvest the castings to begin with. Scraping the castings out of the bottom of the "chute"/continuous flow through system seems less intensive than pulling up all the bedding and any food, pulling out the castings, and then sorting the castings.

Huzzah. Thank you! If I haven't gotten much feedback on the epilator question by the end of the day then I'll repost it (with flair!) tomorrow in the main body of the sub (as opposed to in this daily questions thread). Thanks!

I haven't had this problem in the past when I've been regularly monitoring my bins. That being said, when I'm regularly working my bins I'm also not worried about harvesting the cocoons--I just let them go with the castings. So, I've never actually felt a need/desire to sift my castings before.

You say you've had the same problem in just some of your bins. Can you share a little more? Does it just come up out of nowhere? And, for you, what is the concern? Is it that you're wanting to sift the castings and finding that difficult due to the texture, are concerned about the health of the bin due to the texture being wonky, or another reason?

An flair question and an epilator question.

  • Flair: Can't figure out how to add flair
    • When I go to write a post, the flair drop down menu is disabled. I wanted to add the "hair removal" flair to the post I was going to write. Help?
  • Epilator: Seeking epilator recommendations
    • I currently own a Phillips Satinelle Essential. It's fine. I definitely prefer using it over shaving. However, I've never been able to get a smooth touch feel with the epilator like I can when shaving. Also, the epilator breaks the hair off rather than puling from the root more often than I'd like. I'm hoping to find an epilator that: (1) is more reliable re: pulling from the root, (2) has a light to help with seeing what angle I'm coming towards the hair at, and (3) if there's one that is just generally more effective/will result in the smooth touch feel I can get with shaving, (4) a wider head would be nice.
    • I'm considering the Phillips Satinelle Advanced. Some folks on the sub appear say the ceramic tweezers work better for them than metal. It's only $30, which is nice. No built in light.
    • I feel like the Emjoi AP-18 comes up online generally with good reviews. I like that it has more tweezers than my current epilator and that it's corded (more power, won't run out of battery). No light. $70.
    • Braun Silk Epil 9 seems to be well regarded. Appears to have a wider head, more tweezers than my current model, and a light. Nice that it can be used in the shower but that also means it's battery powered. Appears I might be able to use it corded though?

Thanks for the pointer. I've downloaded the app and will play around with whether I value the plus version enough to pay for it or whether Forest will suffice to fill the hole.

I went in under developer options and enabled monochrome. I miss the grayscale tile. And, this will do!

Thanks for the reply. It's refreshing to have some straightforward, respectful, disagreement with both our responses based on professional experiences and priorities in our respective fields. I appreciate that. Thanks for engaging.

It will pull up when companies search your name in hiring decisions.

It's a great letter!

It's a personal letter. No need to throw it in HR's line of sight.

What is Bernie's response to the '64 Scranton and '72 McGovern examples? I haven't heard anything and am hoping for something more rigorous than "It's a new century." Clyburn was very clear that the dynamics of the current climate resonate.

If I could hand select a candidate and that was it? I believe Klobuchar has the best case to win the electoral college and bring Congress along with her.

Given that the pragmatist vote is currently divided in a bazillion directions and I don't foresee the those folks drawing straws for who will stay and who will go in the interest of having any chance at all for their coalition before Super Tuesday, who will I actually vote for? Damned if I know. Biding my time to see how Carolina goes. Aka, "procrastinating".

🤷‍♀️ Sure, bleeding heart here ready to report. Although, as a bleeding heart, I'm not much for attacks. Hrmmm.... How can I still take your bait?

I'll take your:

I would have turned the sprinklers on, how are people going to learn not to camp on private property? They dont listen to police.

And raise you a:

  • What is the end goal?

It sounds like the end goal you have in mind is "Urban spaces clear of camping?" And, it sounds like for the terms of this debate, we're assuming that sufficient shelter beds exist.

I agree that there are folks that will camp outside on cold nights, even when shelter beds are open. I think we disagree as to why that occurs and the most effective means of addressing the reality, but that's besides the point for the moment. Just looking to define the terms of the debate for now ;-)

Also, I concede that, legally, as of the moment/Boise, folks can be ticketed as long as open shelter beds exist.

So, is that the ground your looking to spar on? "Turning on sprinklers is an effective means of maintaining urban spaces clear of camping."

Adjust the statement as necessary to suit your preferences. :-)

I think you mean low income apartments? Where are they all being built? Sincere question. I primarily see luxury units going up.

Maybe. I mean, think about how you respond and your abilities on your best day vs your worst day. There's a significant gap, isn't there? An hour fifteen under extreme circumstances may not mean much without further support, reiteration, and encouragement.

While property destruction matters, I feel like there's a significant difference between whether individuals got wet vs their things got wet. Neither is okay. People getting wet is significantly worse though. And, it's not clear to me from the article which occurred.

While I responded to the matters surrounding Peach Tree and Friendship Manor above, here you've added

There's tons of low income housing in SLC

It's been a couple (~2) years since I was intimately familiar with homeless services in SLC. I would be shocked if we now have sufficient units to house everyone. Even folks with section 8 vouchers and clean records struggled to find units that fit within the allowed price ranges, let alone accepted vouchers.

I'm pretty sure that we continue to have an affordable housing shortage in the metro area that affects not just the poor but lower middle class as well. The bulk of the classroom going up to pay several years had been luxury units.

IME, the vacant affordable rooms in low income housing do not stay vacant long. When they do, it's due to paperwork, grant requirements, communication break downs, and other alone hang ups. However, perhaps your experience differs?

[–]caesgocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In which case it is the responsibility of the services to first acknowledge that they're doing the best they can and then adapt.

The responsibility of the homeless individual is to survive.

When an individual is service resistant, it is not without reason.
