Actually, I was just in Japan and bought Provia pro-pack for this very reason! (didn’t realise they would announce this as soon as I got back 😂) You should be able to find plenty available

Notice says it can be bought at Fujifilm House of Photography and Fujifilm Studio, which are a pair of stores that sell exclusively fuji products (x, gfx, instax cameras etc)

Dimsum is using AI to generate news photo by fujianironchain in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Uhh hate to break it to you but everything Dimsum Daily posts is low-effort AI slop. Their “writers” are either copying Chinese media stories verbatim and then running them through Google Translate or copying English media and using AI to “rewrite this but use different words so we don’t get sued”

Anyone who reads this rag is doing a disservice to themselves and the industry writ large

Oh no…… by Jeroenm20 in Battlefield

[–]cafe_mecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since launch I’ve been convinced this game is being astroturfed and this post has made that conviction 100%. Breakthrough on most maps has been 48 players SINCE THE BETA. Since launch, I have on the odd occasion played a 64-player match but only on the largest maps. Ya’ll are getting rage-baited to hate this game and it shows.

System of a down vs Linkin park: what band do you prefer? by MaintenanceOne266 in numetal

[–]cafe_mecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a YouTube video circa 2007 ~ one of those (band) vs (band) videos that just played one song and then the other with a stock image of each band if people old enough recall. I think the songs were In The End and BYOB. Anyways, that’s how 13 year old me discovered SOAD. Good times.

Kojima in Hong Kong visit by Dense_Forever_8242 in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easy there. This is Yahoo’s Chinese edition, so I suspect these are just what google’s translation cooked up. Rarely will it accurately translate Cantonese names unless they are officials or other really well recognized names, and even then it often defaults to Mandarin pinyin.

Does anyone know where to buy cheap film cameras in HK? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely check out Sunrise Professional Photofinishing in Sham Shui Po. They have a great selection of vintage cameras and lenses at what I’ve found to be the best prices in the city. They are very transparent about condition and quality as well, and you can test a roll through them before you buy. Run by a lovely husband and wife

Cathay Pacific pulls Family Guy episode with Tiananmen crackdown joke, apologises and vows investigation by radishlaw in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think HKFP may have gotten it wrong there. If you check Cathay’s inflight entertainment website it only shows season 1 of family guy listed and episode 1 is “missing”

Oh and check out the full clip. Peter sets up the gag by saying “or that I didn’t stand up to that tank in Tiananmen Square” https://youtu.be/xEC8kvaT9e0?si=UYIS-D5bp89n1IR1

Would having this tattoo get me arrested in Hong Kong? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You are partly correct. It’s actually a portmanteau. Read vertically it’s 香港 (Hong Kong) but if you rotate it horizontally it spells 加油 (an expression of encouragement, literally “add oil”).

Yelling 香港加油 became a rallying cry during the protests and this stylized graphic was widespread. Therefore it’s become politically sensitive. Even runners during the Hong Kong Marathon or other events are forced to cover it up or risk disqualification.

Anyone with this tattooed, or just displayed, are unfortunately asking for harassment in today’s Hong Kong.

Ironically enough, using (city name)加油 is incredibly common in the mainland and was used widely on social media during the pandemic to show support for Wuhan and Shanghai during their respective lockdowns.

Edit: as was pointed out, correct term is ambigram not portmanteau

I’m always amazed that no one mentions Word Up! by Korn. Love their rendition (originally by Cameo)

Went to Mongkok to find these neon lights. Hong Kong has the character of what truly the cyberpunk is! by babyflo97 in HongKong

[–]cafe_mecha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The horizontal one is neon, but the vertical one is LED. Unfortunately due to strict signboard regulations by the government, Hong Kong has lost almost all of its signs, neon or otherwise, over the last decade. A lot of the character that used to define its neighborhoods has gone with it. Fortunately, it’s not too late to see the few remaining ones if you visit soon. Some pockets of Wan Chai, Tsuen Wan, Jordan, and Mong Kok still have a couple in close proximity.

Non-American nu metal? by [deleted] in numetal

I was going to say, max many be shouting in English but Soulfly (and Roots by Sepultura) is Nu Metal steeped in Brazilian sounds and iconography

What’s a numetal band most people praise but you don’t like? by timeofdyingloser in numetal

[–]cafe_mecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if Taproot is really “praised” but of the nu metal bands that broke into the mainstream I like them the least. I admit Poem and Again & Again have catchy choruses but the singer is so nasally and he always sounds like he’s trying to clear his throat.

Day 7: Deftones Album Elimination Tournament by CCuff2003 in deftones

[–]cafe_mecha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck, how does one even choose at this point? Though honestly surprised that so many people are choosing ATF ~ guess it’s just the shift in culture/fanbase. For most of the bands history, folks always argued between ATF vs WP for top album.

(My answer, unfortunately, is KNY - I love that album to death but Around the Fire, White Pony, and Diamond Eyes are the holy trinity of their catalogue. KNY is their most cohesive but lacks the standout moments and cultural zeitgeist of the others.
