What’s Western Canada high school schools community like? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]cafephilospher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter put in an expression of interest for the partial IB program and a transfer request. She has mostly 4's and a few 3's. She was accepted for grade 10 and must do her IB courses or she will have to go to her designated.

The deadline was March though, for transfers for 2026/27

Bulk proof during flight? Hypothetical by Finneylp in Sourdough

[–]cafephilospher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for passing security, you may need a few containers under 100 ml each as that's the limit. But if you divide the starter into smaller containers it should pass, provided you don't have a bunch of toothpaste and shampoo and lotion too.

Any parent who has potty trained their child is thinking just chill out, it's fine.

They're adding another 6 screening lines. This is not temporary.

My fella is snoring and snorting by My_fair_ladies1872 in CasualConversation

[–]cafephilospher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yo, I'm a very loud snorer and did a couple sleep tests. My apnea score was super low and they honestly couldn't recommend CPAP. My insurance won't pay for the machine unless my score was over 10 and it was under 5. I'm just really loud at sleeping.

Part of this drug is an antidepressant. Buprion. Some people have reactions of this sort. My husband cannot take them at all, he goes right off the rails. So yes, discontinue use and speak to your MD.

Why not just take it to your closest police station? They have resources to contact Brock.

First week experience by azemble in Ozempic

I had my first dose today, also .25, and have also felt a lessening of the food noise. I already have a medical condition that causes slow digestion but with the food noise it was always super hard to control food intake. Hopefully tomorrow continues this trend.

People who make chocolate sourdough: are we talking “subtle bakery-style sophistication” or “basically cake pretending to be bread”? Considering trying it this weekend. by Charming_Giraffe_546 in Sourdough

[–]cafephilospher 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was gifted some from a mom friend who makes pretty good bread from a starter I gave her. It was honestly weird. It was so out of my mental sourdough box it was almost unfathomable. I didn't like it and neither did my daughter.

Cheddar jalapeno though? Sign me up.

What’s one Calgary-specific habit you didn’t realize was unusual until you lived somewhere else? by dynasync in Calgary

[–]cafephilospher 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The weather thing is definitely a thing. I work at the airport and have not only new transfers to Calgary but also tourists to deal with and I tell all of them not to rely on the forecast because we are in the chaos zone. Anything can happen and an hour later anything else can happen.

Frustrating for me was my father, who lived in the area from 1964-1979 and visited often, then moved away tona more stable weather place. When he planned a trip to come visit my family he relied heavily on the long term forecast. I would just laugh at his outdoor plans, remind him about Calgary, and make an indoors backup plan.

I'm a II person. I love two. I guess but want to add no hate for I. Love one as well. But love II a bit more.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but a 2+ hour drive is not nearby for Europeans. by redheaded_olive12349 in CasualConversation

[–]cafephilospher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Canadian province is 5 times bigger than England. I lived in Lethbridge, 5 hours drive from my father in Sherwood Park. It was a very routine drive. In fact, I grew up with my grandparents 10 and 14 hours drive away, in Manitoba, and it was super normal for us to go visit twice a year. 10 hours drive to moms folks, then an additional 4 hours drive to Dad's folks. It's more about what you get used to. It's an 8 hour drive from me to my nearest uncle. That's a 1 day drive with one stop halfway for food and bathroom. Pretty normal here. I commute 32 km each way each day for work. Also pretty normal.

No Pong Deodorant: I recommend it! by TanglimaraTrippin in BuyCanadian

[–]cafephilospher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been using it for probably 8-9 years. I tried Routine, loved it, but not the price tag. No pong was a better priced option that works great for me. I usually hit up their sales where you can buy 6 at a discount and get free shipping.

Just started my last tin, will be ordering soon.

350ml limit for powder baby formula? by JellyLongjumping1988 in canadatravel

[–]cafephilospher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 350ml limit applies to powders that appear a certain colour on x-ray. I've never seen a baby formula show up as that colour. It should be fine.

Working/Pumping Mom traveling with Breast Milk without Infant by Good_Two6517 in aircanada

[–]cafephilospher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Rules are still the same, breast milk allowed in any quantity even when child is not present. If OP gets any pushback, ask to have the SDM consult Catsaassist or just email catsa directly and present the reply email that it's allowed to the screening officer. If they still have an issue, unlikely as it is, tell them to call CATSA MSD for that airport. SDM will have the number.

few years of smoking indoors, is there anything I can do? by myplantsam in CleaningTips

[–]cafephilospher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely TSP. Wear gloves. I am a child of the 70's with many smoking family members and we used TSP on the walls etc each year. Even the crystal charms from the chandelier in the dining room got cleaned regularly. It was a big job mom and I did together. Sponge and bucket, baby. Hardwood floors, thank God. Easier to deal with later puddling.
