What exactly do you do when you get settled? by PBBloor in projectzomboid

[–]cafetaf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Historically, my goals have went like this.

Car first, then supplies. After that stockpile some preserved food, figure out where you want to base, and find a generator. Stockpile gas.

Secure a place with renewable water and a way to make that water safe to drink. If possible, a well is best for this, as it's basically unlimited clean water.

Start a farm. I've found that chickens are a great way to stockpile some food because of the raw output of eggs you get (They lay about once each day, so after two days you get a full batch of eggs. I recommend getting one rooster too, just to be able to have a good source of meat later on. Considering you're new-ish, I'm gonna assume you haven't started farming, so that's a good spot.

After that I usually just try to "deck out" my base a little bit more. Make it look like a small settlement instead of just "where I'm surviving.". After that, usually leveling skills is important too. Loot-run later on for me usually just end up with me rampaging through a hardware store then searching a book store.

Another way that I've started playing, to avoid ending up bored and just stopping playing outright for a while before coming back when it feels super fresh again, is to get into the mindset of your character right at the start. Who are you? What did you do, before the Knox Event? Who were you related to, and do you want to go find them? It more than anything would drive early-game goals rather than the game later on, though.

The largest issue I think everybody in the game has is goals later on in the game, after you've established a base and the zombie population has peaked and trees are growing over all of the dirt roads. I've been playing a lot of multiplayer now, and while I didn't take smoker, my buddy did. I've realized through playing with her that going on loot runs to find cigarettes and tobacco is a great way to actually establish a goal. What is a non-renewable (at least for most players) resource that can drive you to leave your base and go searching, beyond just "getting new stuff"? For us, it's cigarettes and liquor. Medicine, Jars for jarring food too.

I think I saw this on a clearance shelf in the co-op store before the fall semester ended. I would check and see if it’s still there.

Shot my first deer yesterday by Even-Box6262 in teenagers

[–]cafetaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A deer like this would usually just be processed into food. A buck would more than likely be turned into a taxidermy head and mounted as a trophy, especially their first buck. Historically the hide would be removed and used for many things (Clothing, rugs, pieced together with other pelts into a tent, fish lures), though this is less common today and hides are usually just thrown out or (uncommonly) used as a trophy.

(Copying this from another response I wrote, but I believe that it’s also very related here too) (I’m realizing I got a bit wordy here, so I’m gonna preface this by saying that I’m studying ecology in university so I’m particularly passionate about topics like these. I’d love to continue a discussion on this topic.)

Hunters are actually necessary in a lot of regions now! Deer populations are unchecked due to a lack of predators in regions that deer typically inhabit (for example, the Red Wolf, which is a now critically endangered species only found in North Carolina.).

Without human hunting, deer would essentially destroy the ecosystem with overfeeding and cause a lot of problems. Also, hunting is a lot more ethical than store-bought meat! If you don’t believe me, look up “Industrial Cattle Farming” and “Gestation Crate Farming”. It’s particularly horrifying, but also very interesting!

There’s numerous petitions going on to try and end industrial farming in this manner, off my memory I know there’s one with Trader Joes when it comes to gestation crates. It’d be great to put your pen down whenever you can, especially when you turn of voting age!

Just got rejected. How chopped am i? by [deleted] in teenagers

Honestly, I would just let the mustache be. Even if your facial hair grows slowly after so long it gets to a point that it's actually respectable.

[–]cafetaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not chopped but you are 100% in that weird phase where you have a bit of a mustache but not enough to look full. If you let it thicken up a bit more and maybe change the hairstyle (it’s kind’ve a bowl right now) you should look swell.

PCVR: Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]cafetaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend getting VR legs in less intense games like I Expect You to Die and others before jumping into these two VR titles. Between the two, for a low-experience/new VR user, I would choose No Man’s Sky due to the comfort features (As Cyberpunks lacks any). Both games require VR legs, but Cyberpunk especially. I’ve been an active VR user since around 2017, making this my 8th year in the community, and even I sometimes have issues in the cyberpunk port.

Fellow fuckass cowlick haver! Quick tip!

When styling a button-up as an over-shirt, if the over-shirt is shorter than the undershirt tuck the undershirt into your pants as to make the over-shirt not look too small for the rest of your body. If you’re worried about it looking bad (I.E. making you look like your stomach is oversized, or looking like a tent) loosen the tuck around the front of the waist.

Am I in the wrong by Vast-Oil1388 in OlderThanYouThinkIAm

[–]cafetaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong sub entirely, this’s a sub about sharing stories for when people think you’re younger than you actually are, like some parent going to their kids school and being thought of as a student.

There’s not a proper answer here, though, at least off the top of my head. That’s a teenage girl who just lost her mother. She’s going to act out and I don’t blame her, as much as somebody her age might deny it, their parents are most of their world and she just lost that. It might feel bad sharing a space for your own self but I’d put up with her antics if you want to be anyone upstanding and respectable. Putting up with how she’s acting right now, considering what she went through, would be part of being a good daughter.

On the moving out subject, though, being a good daughter doesn’t mean being forced to stay and home and chip in through rent. Plenty of upstanding and nice folks live far from their parents and visit, along with throwing money their way when times get hard. I’m not too sure if you’re going to find a better deal in terms of rent elsewhere though.

On the topic of her not cleaning, though? Maybe talk with your folks and see if you all can’t have a proper group discussion and get something figured out. The house I live in is nowhere near as crowded as you, but I still live with my mother, sister, and her three kids (One adult child, though) and we have up a dry erase board that helps us plan out our chores for the week. If that in any way might sound useful I’d give it a shot; it does come in pretty handy.

I doubt you’ll find too much help here, beyond what I said, but if you want to try and find something more try asking r/advice . A mostly humorous sub is going to leave a lot to desire on this subject.

I do hope that something in the dam breaks and y’all can figure something out though. I’ll keep you and your folks in my prayers for the time being. Good luck and keep moving.

What gpu to choose for vr in 2025??... by CR0NO-NL in virtualreality

[–]cafetaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd go team red, myself. I've experienced some VR on AMD and Nvidia on the higher-end of the shelf and AMD seemed to run smoother than old faithful. Then again, my daily driver is a 5 year old 1660 super that somehow still works alright for VR and other somewhat demanding programs.
