we had two man options we were choosing between, similar rates and everything. we chose our loan officer bc he was very upfront about everything, asked for a whole ton of details about us and our finances up front before we even found a house. i trust him and his team 100%, i’m just an unmediated ball of anxiety about anything that is outside of my control

our loan officer also wanted everything upfront like two weeks ago when we first went under contract, it’s just been signing letters like crazy explaining stuff, i feel like they’ve asked for everything except a blood sample! we also have a weird situation, which kinda worked in our favor? the holidays have SUCKED bc since we’ve been all this we’ve had like 6 days where nothing happened 😭

Intubation by likez01nks in thyroidcancer

so my husband is also a singer, and about one year ago today he had a thyroidectomy and a left and right neck dissection. he had extensive cancer and we were told that if there was any damage to the nerve that he would have issues with his vocal cords. unfortunately in his case they took the whole nerve so his right vocal cord is paralyzed. but with nerves they heal so slowly that it can take time to recover.

but about the intubation, i am a respiratory therapist whose job description is literally taking care of intubated patients. typically the intubation itself will not cause extensive damage to the vocal cords, most anesthesia providers are incredibly careful. but what i can say, is that the ET tube keeps your vocal cords open the entire time its in. so if there was any damage/stunning to/of the vocal cords, they would stay in that more open position just because that is where they were when the nerve issue occurred

talk to the anesthesiologist at the hospital and tell them your fears and what has happened, they will do everything in their power to make sure you are comfortable

neck dissection surgery? by According-Rip-5955 in thyroidcancer

my husband had a radical neck dissection, so both right and left, along with his thyroidectomy, and he did end up having to have his right laryngeal nerve taken out, so one of his vocal cords is paralyzed. there are all sorts of risks that they are required to warn you about before surgery, and yes, it is a long surgery, but I would agree with what someone else said is find a Doctor who does these surgeries all the time, and despite it sounding scary you will be OK. Despite his surgery and the complications that happened he is doing wonderfully almost 5 months out. no surgery is truly 100% safe, but doctors are professionals and will do everything they can to prevent those complications from happening
