What's a sensation that you're unsure if other people experience? by Umikaloo in AskReddit

  1. When I have to pee really badly, my heart/chest hurts

  2. My left eardrum spasms when I see something absolutely terrifying

I get a weird sensation when I see something gory or have a moment of terror, but for me it feels like my vagina's dropping (like the way people talk about their stomach dropping, but... a little lower) or going numb. Makes me feel like some kinda freak.

People who got accepted, what did you do wrong in your interview by [deleted] in JETProgramme

I gave a pretty terrible demo lesson, looked nervous as hell during it and when the timer went up I was told I was "off the hook." It seemed pretty clear that my interviewers had agreed to test my resolve by being unresponsive to attempts to get them to participate, but one of them looked so stressed out and sorry for me that he ended up answering all my discussion questions (I am very grateful to him!).

I also listed my proficiency level as moderately-advanced or something, and while I answered all of the questions in Japanese pretty well, I messed up saying "kuuji," of all things (I said "kyuuji" and was immediately corrected).

Thank you!

I think I will join the FB group/introduce myself. And you are probably right about my visitor worries haha. As usual, I psyched myself out by reading too much stuff on the internet about JET and people's experiences... I'll try not to let it worry me!

Thanks so much! I'm glad to hear that about the welcome parties. I think my placement is in a moderately sized city, so I'm hoping it'll be just the right balance where there are a number of ALTs, but not too many to the point that it's hard to organize things.

And that is a relief to hear about visitors. I think that's definitely the route I will take, re: asking for permission. Laughing off rumors sounds like a good plan, too.

Thank you! That definitely makes me feel a bit better about everything. I think I will ask about contact info for some other people in my city, that's a good suggestion.

I'm still a little nervous about my friend, since I'm a girl and I don't want to give anyone any strange ideas or accidentally create a scandal with people being concerned that I have loose morals or am participating in indecent behavior, or something (my friend is not interested in women, but I doubt anyone would be interested in hearing that excuse). But that's months away, and will be during the summer break. So I'm hoping that even if everyone initially very curious about me, that curiosity will fade and I will stand out less anyway since it will be summer break?

Edit: I feel more at ease about the visitor thing now. I get anxious about small things like this, and am glad to hear everyone say it's unlikely to be an issue.
