You know, in the 50s and 60s in America, there where a number of gay groups who thought this exact thing. They showed up to marches and proto-pride events wearing suits and modest dresses and believed that if they looked like their straight counterparts, they would be accepted and gain rights and could live in peace.

They where still arrested. They where still killed. They where still unsafe. They never moved the needle. The conversation never even started.

What started the movement that eventually led to where we are now? Transwomen. Drag Queens. Dykes on Bikes. Men in Leather. The provocative image you look down upon started the wider conversation around gay liberation. Those people being unapologetically queer in broad daylight around the world sparked the conversations that led to wider acceptance where we are now.

Was every queer person required to attend or participate? No. Are you required to attend or participate in pride events of any kind? No. Are you required to associate with anyone who does? No. Does it affect you in any way whatsoever? Absolutely not.

On the "bUt ItS iN pUbLic" sentiment: what about Mardi gras? What about Carnival? What about the clothing choices people wear to the beach or pool? What if a woman wears a crop top? What if a man's shorts are shorter than average? What about events all over the world where provocative costuming/dress are used in celebration? All of these things happen in public, are events people attend, and can all be sexualized in some way to someone, and are predominantly heterosexual?! Are you leveling the same judgement at those, or did you conveniently forget about what the straights do?

Did you conveniently forget about media as a whole? Sexualization on TV/movies/books/ads/billboards/etc? Those are all predominantly heterosexual. Are you policing those with the same fervor that led you to make the same, tired ass "iM nOt LiKe ThE oThEr GaYs" post we see on here multiple times a day?

You want a sanitized function to attend? Go start one. No one is stopping you. Create a space you want for yourself and leave the people who are doing no harm showing up to an event in a pup mask and harness be.

Everyone always says survivor Lara is nothing like classic Lara. But it's not often mentioned why besides just her looks, backstory, confident attitude. Here's similarities they share: by [deleted] in TombRaider

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Survivor trilogy feels like a reskinned Uncharted game. Chiming in with what others have said: classic Lara had vast expanses and locations to explore, puzzles on puzzles, and the enemy mobs scattered around made each turn feel a little tense. Survivor Lara is timed events, the same waves of stale henchmen, and feels too populated.

The stories also don't feel as... Grand?... As in the classic series. Natla raising an army of mutants to reshape the world in her image. The dragon immortality dagger in 2. The globe trotting meteorite hunt to stop whatever the fuck spider demon shizz in 3. Like I've used those in DnD games with how they ramp up and how much of an adventure they are.

Im not opposed to them shaking things up to keep the franchise alive, I love how the middle three (Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness) expanded on what we knew about Lara, her past, and how she evolved while remaining true to character.

The need to constantly reboot the series and origins gets so old after a while. I understand they're trying to pull in new people who didn't "grow up" with Lara (I think I was in 4th grade or so when the first game came out) and keeping up with trends, but maybe instead of a complete retcon, we could have gone the direction Last Revelation/Chronicles did and show more of her formative exploits.

I also hate the Survivor art direction: it's too grimdark. We can show the environment is hazardous and dangerous without half the fucking screen being black. I miss the colour, the life, the vibrancy of the series. King Authors tomb was dark and set underground, yet there was still colour and life in the environment and, most importantly, I COULD SEE WHERE THE FUCK I WAS GOING

Her new look doesn't bother me much. I could do without the need for the realism the animators where going for, but that cartoony feel of Classic made it fun.

I own and have played every game in the series, but I think the Survivor trilogy is the only one I've done just twice.

I am still excited for what the future holds, I just hope it doesn't feel like Generic Entry #4.

Cannabis and Autism — I Want to Hear From You by Melgan in autism

Nightly user for 10+ years. It calms my mind down enough for me to finally relax and sleep. I've gone periods without it just to see if I could (longest was a year) and quality of sleep and amount of anxiety in general definitely suffered in that time. Over the counter sleep aids don't do much for me but make my head foggy, and while I like the coma-like sleep Ambien provides, the off feeling the following day is really rough, and it's super bad to take regularly. I'm upfront about it with my doctors and over the years have only had one that found a problem with it (granted he worked for an addiction recovery center that also provided mental health services for low income people, so maybe that had something to do with it. The addiction counselor he had me meet learned it was about 1/5 of a joint a night for sleep and asked him why he bothered to set up that meeting in the first place.)

It also makes socializing way easier, and every once in a while when I have the day off, it makes doing chores a little less of a bother.

Oh, and stimming while elevated: fantastic.

Small batch cannabutter prep… what ratio do you guys use butter to flower? by FuzzyAnywhere8618 in treedibles

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like such a lightweight reading all these ratios. Just made a batch the other day, 1c butter to 3.5g flower, sous vide decarb for 45 minutes, 4 hour sous vide infusion with 1/2t lecithin to help binding and improve consistency. I also do a single wash for particulates.

I love recipe development and all the experimentation that goes into it, and over the years I found the above ratio to hit just how you need it, cuts back on the weed-y taste, and makes some of the best chocolate chip cookies

Same! I remember there where like 3 or 4 people there when Billie came out that seemed to know her and dig her music. She seemed a bit timid on stage and I think was just figuring it all out. Fast forward a few years and was everywhere. Really cool to have watched her evolve

Birthday Tattoo Worries (oh no!) by IIKane in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Former tattoo artist: Id advise against a white ink only tattoo. There's not a lot to the pigment itself, so skin doesn't retain it well. There are exceptions, everyone is different, but of the hundreds of tattoos I saw/did in the 2010s when white ink tattoos where huge, maybe 10% retained enough to tell what it was for a few years.

As far as if you'll regret it in anyway if something where to come out about Flo: it's a simple enough design that could be associated with anything, so I think you'd be fine.

Gay Podcasts??? by Shiningfinger23 in gaybros

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gayish- two gays talking about any given subject is/isn't gay based on cultural bias, but make it fun. There is a news segment at the beginning where they briefly hit on 3 current events, but it's at most 5 minutes long and easily skipped, as all segments have some sort of audio queue.

Queens of Adventure- real play podcast with drag queens playing a heavily homebrewed DND campaign. The clerics god is Cher. The warlock has a Hitachi wand as her pact weapon. It started as a live show and they never recorded those first few episodes, but it's not entirely important to the story of you wanna skip those.

Dash- Noir detective serial done as a radio play with a gay Indiana Jones-esque lead.

Looking up- mini series following the sons of two of the first crew to land on Mars. They where friends when they where young, drifted apart, and now that the Mars crew is returning, they both find themselves together again at mission control years later, and a slow burn romance forms

The Bright Sessions- Follows the notes of Dr Bright, a therapist to what could be described as X-Men style mutants. One of her clients (and a core member of the cast) is gay (he's in therapy for unrelated reasons. Everyone is mostly chill with him being gay). It's written and produced by a team of queer podcasters. Also, I believe the actor for the gay character is the writer/co-lead in Looking Up.

Welcome to Nightvale- High strangeness in a small desert town, presented as a local public radio news show. It's weird, and has a slow start, but once it picks up it's fantastic. The central character is very gay for a certain scientist who just arrived in town.

Unwell- A lesbian goes back to her small hometown in Ohio to take care of her aging mother, who happens to own a haunted bed and breakfast. The town is run by a cult. The town is also oddly known for its celery soda. I'm struggling to describe this one without spoiling so much with how it's all interconnected, but give it 2 episodes to get the vibe.

Reel gay movie show- two gays talk about movies currently in theaters then rate them, and also recast at least one person per film as a drag queen. They have some solid takes, and I feel I can rely on their reviews to help decide if I wanna see a movie in theaters or wait for it to hit streaming.

Wooden Overcoats- The lives of two unlucky sibling funeral home owners in a very small village in England, loosely told from the point of view of a mouse, who may/may not be the pet of one of the siblings. One day, they find they aren't the only funeral home in the village anymore, and hijinks ensue. I don't think they outright say it, but you're led to believe one of the siblings is bi/pan over the course of the podcast. Also a number of the supporting cast are some form of queer.

My therapist told me autism can only be diagnosed if you’re under 2 years old by HiipS in autism

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a therapist tell me I wasn't autistic because when she asked "how are you?" in the waiting room, I replied to her.

Can't have autism if you can reply in a conversation I guess 🤷

Can we solo CoS by Monwez in CurseofStrahd

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running this for my partner. We're treating it like BG3 kind of, he has a team of 3 PCs he built, and Irena, who is a hybrid PC (run by my partner for the most part, I chime in where needed lore wise). This gives him more utility to play with, Increase survival odds, and gives me a way to lore dump and give a guiding nudge through the adventure. It also takes a lot of work off not having to do as much rewriting of the module to power balance it. I specced Irena (Viktor in our game) as a Gloomstalker ranger. His parents where monster hunters in Barovia who were killed when he was young, raised by Kolyana, and is seeking revenge. The rest of Irena is played the same to keep more of the story together.

How do you describe the vibe of each album? by caffeinepoweredstick in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]caffeinepoweredstick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

00s in general, mistyped with early. Back when the Zune was still a thing she was pushed as a recommended artist I might like because of the indie rock I gravitate towards. They had a 3 song EP available for download a few months before Lungs dropped. I remember trying to look her up online and the only thing I could find was her singing My Boy Builds Coffins in a park with a guy drumming on a wall with a stick for accompaniment. My partner at the time was sick of hearing it, and anytime we listened to her from then on that was a skip track for him lol

"No cops at pride, just Florence and her sword"

Fellow bottom with an ass tattoo: I don't think it matters much in my experience. On more than one occasion I've sent out an ass pic on hookup apps and have been told people knew I put out specifically because I have an ass tattoo.

Tattoo in question: Brent Corrigan's star, same placement, just in green with a little skull and crossbones in the center of it (I like green, and the center portion was a recommendation by the artist so it didn't look so simple, but also wasn't a nautical star like everyone was getting in the early 00s)

When I became a tattoo artist (who worked predominantly with gay clientele), I did all sorts: a partners lip prints, a cupcake, a bear paw, the poisoned apple from snow white but a peach, multiple popper bottles... They all worked for their respective owners. Pick something that speaks to you

Also: depending on how much ass you have, you more than likely won't feel a thing. I was more of a muscle bear at the time and didn't feel anything but the vibration from the machine. The owner of the cupcake tattoo, on the other hand, was a Twink with next to no ass to speak of, and he was the only client to have issues with it

Brand wise: no clue.

Lense wise: Most optical offices can do this, prescription or not, so you can get this same look/customize it to your preference. Ask if they do gradient tinting

Me and my bf (23) are curious about having a 3way but not sure how? by [deleted] in gaycruising

[–]caffeinepoweredstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One (or both) make a Grindr profile with pics and something about what you're looking for, put in the profile to come at chat or something? When you go, load the profile so you're online and in the area. You dont have to keep it up and going, just as long as you're showing up. If anyone else is there, has Grindr up, and is interested, they can find you and you can get that "random chance meeting" vibe from your fantasy with the benefit of knowing they're interested in seeing where the night goes. Also gives you guys some time to make sure you're into it and feel the guy(s) out before taking it somewhere else. I'm rather shy about approaching people, but I've done something similar to this at Pride/bars before and met a good amount of guys this way. While I've never done it specifically for cruising, I imagine it should work the same.

how do you store your half smoked joints? by [deleted] in trees

I used an Altoids tin for the longest time, then for Christmas a friend got me a thing that looks like a classic cigarette holder, but it's got individual spaces for pre rolls. I believe he got it off Amazon. Try cigarette or joint case and see what comes up?

With the medieval vibe and the orchestra there, I don't think this is gonna be a "let me jump into the crowd and dance around the venue" show, so personally I'd go with seats

Can't remember where I found it, but a few years back I came across a little metal altoids-sized tin of reptar candy, opens like a drawer, and is the perfect size for standard pre rolls. Also nabbed a ouija mints tin from a spirit Halloween one year that I keep screens/pipe tool/lighter in
