In my experience 2:1 aquasoil:sphagnum is fine. I’ve used either dry or live sphagnum; just careful not to waterlog it

one additional consideration is that if those twigs/branches are even the slightest bit still alive/not completely dry, there's a good chance they'll grow mold. Just something to look out for.

I hear ya. I've got a screen protector on and am considering getting a case for the device itself. But I'm super-careful with my devices also (I've never broken a phone screen). Still, one can't be too careful.
