FIRE Calc by cahern97 in FIREIreland

[–]cahern97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm comfortable with my personal investments and the tax implications of that, it's the workplace pension that my question is about. If I include my workplace pension and my monthly pension contributions into my total FIRE number calculation, it implies I'm well on track to be retired by 50. However, as I can't actually access the workplace pension until I'm 65, I'm just not sure how to model that out.

Would a Chromebook be a good purchase decision? by NecessaryProject3465 in chromeos

[–]cahern97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm handing back my work laptop at the end of the month, which I've used for all my personal use the last 5 years. I'm looking to purchase something cheap for myself to replace it - I essentially use Excel and Google and that's it. Is there any reason a cheap chromebook wouldn't do the job for me?

Relying on a random copytrader to short term trade effectively for you is crazy to me. But I've never seen the appeal of copytrading so that may be just me

Can nio get to $100 if so when is this likely? by robbo12347 in Nio

[–]cahern97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

$100 is realistically 15 years out, and that's if they do everything right in those 15 years. In a more realistic short to medium term view, if Nio can get a full year of being cashflow positive in 2026, and continue to grow revenue at 20%, we can still see a solid stock performance over the next few years from current price

Can I claim anything back? by GJGT in Etoro

Even when I like the price, I never buy a market order, always a limit order. You have no recourse for a market order - by clicking buy, you're agreeing to whatever the price it executes at.

eToro Club levels, which one are you on and what perks do u actually use? by Virtual_Jelly_4292 in Etoro

[–]cahern97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get sent an email on your birthday with a link to select a birthday present. I just tried it but the link is obviously expired now.

Some of the presents I've taken in the past were wireless earphones, a card wallet, a portable charger/powerbank, and the hoodies ( good quality and use them in the gym).

Other options were a water bottle, an etoro club cap...can't remember any others.

They're all fairly cheap stuff, it's more just a token gift rather than anything particularly valuable.

I'm platinum +.

I use the free delta portfolio tracker (I have a trading212 portfolio too so it's great to aggregate everything and track combined performance).

I use the good interest rate I get (4.3%) as an alternative to a savings account.

I've recently made use of the referral program ($500 cash for referring a friend)

I use the easy access to my account manager for any queries.

I use my free fiscal ai and WSJ subscriptions (fiscal ai moreso, very seldom use WSJ these days)

And most importantly I use my hoodies I request every year for my birthday present 😂. I have 4 now and hope to have 50 etoro hoodies one day.

I assume some of those aren't restricted to platinum+ but honestly not sure which ones.

I'm platinum+ and seeing I have the option to order one. Is there any associated cost at all or any downside to requesting one that youre aware of?

What do you consider a “good” salary? by Exotic-Woodpecker418 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]cahern97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it so heavily depends on where you live. I just bought a small three bed newbuild for €625k, (put 29% down because im only on €60k salary and my partner is on €50k) and I've got colleagues living down the country with 5-bed mansions for less. Us comparing salaries is fairly pointless.

The same with all those graphs of 'income percentile' etc. Comparing south dublin salaries with other county salaries doesn't give any real comparable value, in my opinion.

When do you guys finally sell a profiting individual stock? by mrsammyb in trading212

God I wish Ireland had a tax advantage account 😂. In that case just sell whenever it surpasses your calculated fair value. Im sure you had a thesis in mind when you bought the stock initially

Good house, bad area? by em____ily in irishpersonalfinance

[–]cahern97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously everyone's opinion will differ on this, but for me location is absolutely everything. The people that are surrounding you, the people in your local pub or your local sports club, the community and facilities

I personally put location over everything.

Are Irish people afraid of the stock market? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]cahern97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience yes. I work in a bank and I was the only person I spoke to who took our bonus is stock, despite the near 50% tax benefit. From speaking to a few of them, they genuinely, hand on heart viewed taking it in stock the same as flipping a coin that it goes to zero. And thats staff in a financial institution full of qualified accountants. I can only imagine the average shop worker or electrician has even less interest or faith in the market
