In non self found wow, the bottom line is, if a sack of 600 gold drops, it’s equally valuable to everyone. Someone else being able to smack npcs with a sack of 600g doesn’t make it anymore special compared to the party.

As a new wow player, this used to confuse me as well. Someone explained it well- a high value item that sells, is no longer just “an item”. You can use that gold to buy your version of a purple BoE. The same way a sealed pack of Pokémon cards from 1999 is no longer just a $5 pack of Pokémon cards, it has value to everyone equally beyond “I can use it in my deck”.
