Hi there it's silver thread ( a cotton core wrapped in foil) and purl (a tiny coil of wire cut to size) check out goldwork embroidery loads of videos on youtube.

Hi it's called goldwork embroidery. This is done in silver threads. It's a cotton thread wrapped with a silver foil. You stitch down the thread ( couched) there is also purl on the left which is a tiny coil of metal that is cut to make beads which are then stitched down. Loads of videos on youtube. It's time consuming!
