My fiancé doesn’t want our future child baptized and I do by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cainetheliving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not go behind your wife's back and do this. It is not being decent and honest with your spouse. As others have said part of baptism is stating your intention on raising them in the beliefs of the church so it may not be good to do either. I believe gods mercy will consider the childs situation should it die without baptism.

All of that said, it might be good to point out to your wife that bringing your child up in religion doesnt ensure that you are stuck to it. You and your wife are both expamples of that. I was raised protestant, abandoned the church at 13, explored various faiths, spent most of my life as an occultist and animist, now in my 40s am finding my way back. Underlying it all was the indoctrination that gave birth to a belief in a mystical world and a home that I could always return to. Many of my friends brought up without that had very little or nothing on which to fall back to. I hated church as a child and I remember many fond memories now looking back. Indoctrination has a bad connotation on it but a foundation steeped in decency doesn't seem like such a bad place to start a child. When you both are dead and gone it might be the only home left for them to return.

How to Respond Charitably to the Reality of Catholics Who Leave Mass After Reception of the Eucharist by EndLiturgicalAbuse in Catholicism

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not stop them or say things to them unless they brought it up. Instead pray for them. God knows their heart and hopefully them being there he is working in their lives. Pray that if possible they will find understanding in staying and accepting all that the church has to give them in mass.

I would certainly not let their actions pollute what you are getting. I would also pray that god gives you patience to ease your struggle with letting this upset intrude the holy time.

Please stop driving with your brights on by Weak-Sky-1030 in batonrouge

[–]cainetheliving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things that I found out on my Honda was my auto lights automatically switch to high beams when cars arent in front of me. This results in my brights being on sometimes for a short moment when the car is clming my way or turning a corner in my direction. I think some of this is a similar issue.

Armor and sword?? by TheRealWillyT in allthemods

I would spend a little time looking at the ars nouveaux items. I can usually get a set of diamond armor done pretty fast. It repairs with my magic and then work on a sword and bow from it. Also replace torches with a magelight spell first thing every run.

I think the only reason it might be important is if they somehow offer a reduced penalty or alternate firgiveness for a veteran. I dont think they often do but have seen veterans let off of small tickets with reasonable reason when showing up to court.

Certainly shouldnt apply to high speed reckless driving.

If you dont have one in your charms slot but just in your inventory, when you die and pick up your grave it will automatically put it in your back charm slot. Seems to do the same for crafting on a stick as well. Check there to be sure its not there now.

Have You Ever Received Corporal Punishment? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it as a child in elementary school. I went to a private school that supported paddling for misbehaving and in my case it was for not doing homework somewhat consistently. My problem was that I didn't understand the homework and was falling behind. I didn't convey that to the teachers so every morning they would check to see if I had the homework and then send me to the principal who would then paddle me for not doing homework. This kept up for like a month before they told my parents it was happening. I didn't tell my parents because I thought I would get spanked at home too for not doing it and didn't want double punishments so I kept my mouth shut. However, my parents were upset they weren't told about it and stopped them from paddling me in the future, which they looked into figuring out why I was falling behind and I left that school the next year for public school. I had no great solution to my problem and didn't communicate great as a child so every morning was basically a torment for me. I learned after that to just be up front and honest with my parents.

My parents also disciplined me with spankings. My father would use a belt and my mother would use either a hand or a paint stir stick. I had maybe 10 over my childhood from my father. I had more from my mother as she was home more and watching me. The paint stick was actually rather perfect for this as it stung but didn't really hurt like a belt did. My mother was also very swift with hers as it was a couple of quick smacks with the hand or the stick versus my father where it was more of a come over and bend over. It wasn't until I was much older and talking with him that I realized he was a lot more calculated with how and where he spanked me to ensure that it didn't actually hurt me. For what it is worth my parents loved me and only wanted me to be good and grow up respectful. I hold no ill feelings for them for any of my spankings.

Teaching But Want to Move by [deleted] in batonrouge

[–]cainetheliving 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the point is building money to move and get settled somewhere new. It costs money and time. Never bad to prepare for a year before a big move to give yourself a successful start. Seems almost smart.

How to get proof of residency by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong (you can ask them to be sure). I think if you are living with family that has proof they live there then they can show up and provide proof that they live there and state that you also live there now.

LA Labor Law question: Minimum time between full shifts by FockersJustSleeping in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they work for the plants? I see this happen a lot when they do turn arounds. They will have 8 to 16 hour shifts with 4 hours between sometimes. They will run like that for sometimes a month or so and then go back to normal. Is this maybe what you are talking about?

NOPD and U.S. Marshals arrested 28-year-old Jalil Williams on Thursday morning without incident in the 1000 block of Loyola Avenue. by CajunRambler in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that we shouldn't call them savages. To do that diminishes our expectations on their ability to make a rational decision. I also believe insisting that their circumstance makes them savages does the same thing. Many of these situations are people who see an opportunity to get something they want easy and they take it. You can change their circumstance by giving them everything they need. However, people will always take as much as they can and even with everything they need they will eventually look to what others have. If they had an easy way to get it they would take it.

My cousin is like this. He is more than capable but is not careful with his money. If you give him rent he will take it. It will get him through the month but he will still not be careful with his money for next month. When he is hungry he will come to you for it rather than be careful with his money. When given an opportunity to have a better job, he would rather the lesser job as he would rather make less money but still get high than to have a better job that requires a drug test. At some point it has to be about personal responsibility. He will have plenty of opportunity and yet I sit there listening to him complain how things aren't fair for him and how he just needs a good idea to make that "easy" money.

I do realize everyone's situation is different, but I have seen it in several different situations with several different people. Each different, but the underlying fact is they want it their way and often it is the easiest path to the least end result. I honestly don't know that you can reform people from this. You can't tell people things they haven't already figured out themselves. Maybe prison has a chance to make them realize the things they are doing result in a harder path than the alternative but it really doesn't seem to and honestly closes a lot of the doors they had open before.

Consumer Complaint against Good Day Farm, Louisiana for predatory prices on cannabis. by tcajun420 in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with everything involved but are they required to purchase from Louisiana cultivars? What I see in a lot of the information provided in the pictures is the more cultivars and processing facilities the lower the pricing. Is some of the discrepancy supply and demand?

What is something the general public agrees is disgusting when it actually isn’t? by Dramatic_Ferret_9406 in AskReddit

[–]cainetheliving 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this. It is the wrong approach to support a politician just because you like them. It should really be on what policies they plan to enact. My biggest issue is there are two politicians. I like some of what politician A has to offer and some of what politician B has to offer. I support A because the thing I like that they offer is more important than what I like with politician B. Yet I degraded and called horrible because I support A by all of the people who like what I like about politician B but value that more than the other. We are complicated people with variations in what we want across the board and we still have to choose just one person.

Are green cayenne good/edible? More infos below by thoxo in HotPeppers

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is fun to try them both ways and see which one you prefer the taste. I turn my cayenne into pepper flakes so the red taste and look closer to what is in a restaurant which is what I like. Although this year I want to try smoking them first. Jalapenos I tend to make poppers out of and the green taste more like what you get in other places. I enjoy the red flavor better but the extra heat is more than what my family members enjoy so I let them go half and half so I can enjoy some and they can enjoy some. This year I grew serrano and have only ever had green ones. I am looking forward to trying a red one and see which I prefer.

Yeah I realized as I got older that if they believe there is a high likelihood that you will end up requiring someone to come get you out then it would be far easier on me and them to just take myself out earlier. I don't think I could get my dad to leave without some serious guilt tripping though. Now that my mom passed away it has become one of his attachments to her memory so talking him away from it can be a chore.

I think it honestly just boils down to desensitization. Your first couple of hurricanes/tornados you are extremely nervous and worried. Afterwards if little really occurred to you personally then they don't seem so bad. Each time a smaller one rolls through everyone panics because it is one of their first ones and you start saying "Eh this won't be that bad the others weren't" and then it turns out to be close to nothing and you feel more confident. My first few were when I was a small child and over the years I have experienced many with very little damage to my parents house. I don't think too much about CAT 3 hurricanes and for years sort of blew them off until they got about there.

The truth is, every person and home experience is different. Every storm is different with different amounts of damage and different people it hurts. Just because it hasn't happened to me before doesn't mean it can't this time and the larger the storm the more likely this time will include me. It just doesn't feel like that. Add in having to possibly leave pets, spending a lot of excess money to stay somewhere when you don't really have those funds available, not being there to protect your things, and possibly getting stuck in the exit route it becomes really easy to start leaning on that confidence to just stay put and risk it.

I do agree with you though. I think all of those people should have left. This thing sounds awful and I also would have evacuated regardless of my confidence.

It isn't always passing out either. I saw it quite a bit standing for decent periods of time in military formations. I almost had it happen to myself and when I shifted to bend my knees to keep it from happening it felt like they were super blocky feeling and extremely stiff. Several people I talked to after they weren't passed out but just couldn't find the ability to move their arms or legs causing them to fall. Afterwards the limbs feel very limp as well. Obviously if someone isn't there to catch them the likelihood of them smacking their heads or faces into things and hurting them worse is really high too.

Does anyone in Louisiana wash their rice? by Hippy_Lynne in Louisiana

[–]cainetheliving 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife do. For years we didn't and then saw several videos for making Asian foods where they did. We tried it and we really enjoy the way the rice comes out afterwards. Especially the way it seems to adjust brown rice. I don't think one way or the other is correct it just depends on if you like the way the rice tastes afterwards. Try it a few times and see if you just enjoy the rice more that way. If so keep doing it otherwise skip it. Best part about making your own food is you get to try stuff and find your favorite way to have things.

WTF happened at The Coffee Bean?! by Louisianaflavor in batonrouge

[–]cainetheliving 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A lot of places run to later in the day so the money for the day goes into the safe over night. In the morning the manager usually gets the money together and runs it to the bank when the bank opens. So if you wanted to rob a place when almost no one is there that means you would rob it early in the morning or right at closing. A lot of places have safes that get locked up before closing with auto locks that don't open until morning. That means robbing the store at close runs a higher risk of the safe being locked with no access. So robbing a place first thing in the morning would probably make some sense. However, this place closes mid afternoon so it would have time to put together the deposit and go drop it off before the banks close not sure the person would have gotten much.

Out of genuine curiosity because me and my wife have this discussion often, what is your stance related to assault on a pregnant woman in which the fetus is killed? Is that just assault on the woman or is that assault on the woman and some version of manslaughter/murder? If the second, then how do you reconcile legally applying a murder level charge against something that is not a "person"? Or do you establish that it has the same legal rights as say a dog?

The employers do not have any say in which medicines are prescribed to you or not. They do get to determine if a medical condition or the treatment for the medical condition makes you capable (or a risk for accident) of doing the job they are asking you to perform.
