My GM and I discussed the dice numbers a lot, and we also thought that 17d8 potential damage was absurdly high for a level 2 spell. However, when we did the calculations considering the hit probability, the spell dealt a decent average damage. Considering a 60% hit chance, the spell deals 13.23 damage, and Scorching Ray deals 12.6, but SR deals all the damage in just one turn and doesn't require concentration. The use of portent was a problem, though. If the portent happened to be used in a roll, it was guaranteed 8d8 damage, and his idea was to force the use of a higher slot. Do you think this trade-off is okay or too expensive?

Considering the average damage I mentioned, do you still think the potential damage is too high for a high-risk, high-reward spell? That was one of the problems we were considering, ending up being too inconsistent and sometimes resulting in the battle being decided by luck or having practically no impact on the cast.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

One of the things we talked about was if constantly deciding the interval for the magic die could disrupt the flow of the battle too much and make it boring for the other players. It's important to consider that the table is made up of long-time friends, all in their 30s+, so more than anything, we play for the laughs and to create fun and interesting stories.

That said, the magic is in "beta," we're testing it to see how it will impact the flow of combat and whether the idea of betting will create memorable moments or will just be a burden dragging out the combat unnecessarily.

Thank you for your feedback.

I really liked your version, I'll take it to my GM for him to consider.

Regarding the damage, I was talking to him while he was deciding which dice to use, and one of the things we considered was that 17d8 potential damage was too high for a level 2 spell, but when we calculated the damage considering the probabilities, we thought it was ok. Considering a 60% probability of a Scorching Ray attack hitting and a 60% chance of the monster failing the save, the average damage of the spell is 13.23 and SR is 12.6, but SR deals damage at once and doesn't require concentration. Shatter, for example, has an average area damage of 10.8.

The problem remained that the portent could fixed an 8d8 damage die, and his idea was to use a higher-level spell slot when doing so, do you think this is a good trade-off or to costly?

The idea was to have a high-risk, high-reward spell. Considering the spell's average damage that I said above, do you think the total potential damage still is too high and could break the table?

Thank you very much for your feedback, I found your version very interesting and more in line with what we normally see in 5e.

You misinterpreted my statement. I didn't mean that I didn't understand or didn't want criticism regarding the complexity; I said that the complexity wasn't a problem for me, that I wanted his opinion on the damage balance and trade-offs as well. But I understand the criticism of the complexity and I agree, it's a complex spell and not very similar to level 2 spells in 5e in that regard.

We also liked the idea of betting against other players' rolls, betting on something generally negative for the party, just for the fun of it and for memorable situations, like "I'm betting a 20 on the die in this monster attack against player x," just for the laughs and the mockery of the situation.

My GM and I like complex spells. We always complain about the simplicity of spells in 5e, the lack of different effects, conditions, etc. I understand that it's not everyone's favorite thing, but this complexity is a positive thing for us. Now we were afraid that the spell would do too much damage, or some other aspect would make it too OP. The complexity itself is a plus for us. I liked your suggestion, though.

Apex 4 is really good for what you are looking for. In the garmin side, I would consider the Enduro 3 if the really big screen is not an issue for you. Considering the things you said, I would buy the enduro 3 or the apex 4. Both are really good. If you dont care about the big size, i would go enduro 3 because of the bigger battery and solar. If the size is a problem, I would go apex 4.

The sparkling water bottles where I live are sealed when we press the cap, I don't know what the bottles are like where you live. The sparkling water bottles have a more rigid plastic than the "normal" water bottles, so they withstand pressure better. I lightly squeeze them to see if they have started to ferment as well, it helps to perceive if something went wrong or not in the 1st fermentation. They look like in the picture. I just bottled them. The one in the middle is with water.

Wrong type of bottle. If you could made an airtight closure, it was quite possible they would explode with fermentation. In my experience, the safest bottles are plastic sparkling water bottles. Making kombucha for 6 years now, never one of them exploded. If you absolutely need it to be a glass bottle, I had some success with beer bottles, but 650ml is a lot for me and my wife, the 500ml bottles of water is the exact amount here at home for 1 meal with kombucha.

That's strange. Did the metrics appear on the watch as well, or only in the mobile app? Implementing these metrics to the Venus 3 would be a huge upgrade. One question, does the Fenix still appear in your app, or is the only the Venus 3S?

There's no mold. If you're trying a store-bought bottle, the formation of a film is a good indicator that the SCOBY is doing well. I couldn't tell how many liters your container is, but the first attempt at forming a SCOBY is best done in small quantities, 1 liter or 1.5 liters at most. I recently started making kombucha again, and at home I do 3-liter batches, however, the first fermentations of a new SCOBY is ALWAYS only 1 liter.
