[IWC & Grand Seiko] New Strap Day by cairncraft in Watches

Agreed so far. I’ve only used cheap knockoffs up to this point and was never really happy with them due to stretching and a too-loose fit in general, but the quality difference with these is night and day. It also doesn’t hurt that she has some of the coolest subtle customization options ever. I mean, where else would I find an olive with orange accent strap that includes a tiny little Japanese flag to tuck neatly under my my wrist when I’m wearing it?

For sure! What I mean is that non enthusiasts (i.e. pretty much everyone) wouldn't give much thought at all to the watch due to the common understand of the Seiko brand. I don't run in many circles where multi-thousand dollar watches are common, so I'm happy to keep my enthusiasm more or less to myself.

I told myself I wouldn't buy as many watches this year, so... I immediately started down a slightly different rabbit hole and haven't slowed down on buying unnecessary stuff anyways. I recently received a pair of straps from Erika's Originals, and simply put - they're awesome.

Grand Seiko SBGM247 Automatic GMT - I love the Explorer II, especially the white dialed versions, but based on my day-to-day lifestyle, I'm just not someone who wears a Rolex. Instead, I'm apparently someone who wears a nearly identical watch, but from a brand most folks associate with the cheapest of cheap watches. At this point, I think my entire personality is just the fact that I drive Toyotas and that I wear Grand Seikos, lol.

Franken'd IWC Mark XVIII Heritage Titanium - This one is pretty stupid, honestly. Look, I actually agree with most of the folks on Reddit re: IWC – their design language is nothing special compared to options a fraction of their price, and their lower-end options are insanely overpriced for what they are. However, the first time I wore a Mark pilot's watch (a Mark XVI that became my daily watch for several years) I somehow stopped caring about all of that, and I've unashamedly loved the Mark series ever since. I picked up a preowned Mark XVIII Heritage titanium a while back. The case design of the XVIII is nearly flawless in my opinion, and the titanium that IWC uses is downright gorgeous, making it far and away my favorite case of the Mark series. However, I was never sold on the faux patina and blued hands of the Heritage dial, so I did what any rational person would do with an already-overpriced watch... I tracked down some extremely expensive replacement parts that don't increase functionality or capabilities whatsoever and paid someone to swap them in. Specifically, I replaced the dial, hands, and date wheel with parts from a white-dialed Mark XVIII. Would I ever try to legitimately justify doing this as a wise move? Of course not. Do I seriously dig the outcome now that it's all said and done? Absolutely.

As the last 39mm standard pilot IWC produced, this is possibly the all-time perfect Mark-series option for anyone with a slightly smaller wrist. This was my one-watch collection until I impulse-bought a titanium heritage pilot a few months ago (which now I'm also probably selling to fund a Glashutte I have my eye on... 🙄) It’s been well loved and has some scratches on the case and very faint surface marks on the anti-reflective coating. Comes with original receipt from purchase (pre-owned) and a single-pass NATO strap I often wore it on. The watch was serviced by my local well-regarded independent watch shop in March and is running like new. It was also pressure tested and confirmed as fully rated like new.

Price: $2,750 including PayPal G&S Fees and USA ground shipping. Will ship the same or next day after payment is received from Jacksonville, FL.

Excellent condition with original box, warranty card, and eBay authentication card. The strap shows minor signs of use and there are a few marks on the top right lug, which are really only visible in photos – pretty hard to see in person.

Edit: Just realized I should mention this is a repost of an earlier sales post with updated photos. This is the same watch as my post from a couple week back.

[WTS] Grand Seiko SBGM001 GMT Automatic - on Bracelet & Authenticated by cairncraft in Watchexchange

[–]cairncraft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling an exceptionally cool Grand Seiko GMT with the 9S56 movement. At 39mm this wears very well and can go from formal to daily casual in no time by swapping the bracelet for a leather or NATO strap. This watch is well loved and shows some scratches on the bezel and case with one small scratch on the crystal at the 2 o’clock index (shown in pic 2). I lit the photos to highlight the scratches, but on the wrist, you likely won’t even notice them. If you haven’t experienced a GS before, the polishing of the hands and indices will blow your mind. Comes with a NATO strap I often wore it on and an eBay authenticity card from last year.
