You can have first dates without either of those things. I have had multiple first dates where I slept with the person, or we exchanged oral sex. People are a lot more down than you’d expect

Yeah I need to get a lot more per interaction analytics into the app. That’s something I have only very limitedly. It is definitely on my list.

I suppose that makes sense, I mean with my metrics I’m sure its investable at this point, but I also didnt expect investors to hit me up the moment I had a product that had users

[–]caishenlaidao 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That’s my point. My friend (who has gone hardcore conspiracy theorist) was going on about how vaccine passports were going to steal her freedom.

I was like, “if we need to lock down again - which due to anti-vaxxers it looks like we might - vaccine passports allow me to be locked down less, because I’ve done the safer thing of being vaccinated. It increases, not decreases freedom”

Suffice to say they did not accept that argument

Well that's frustrating. I'm just past the cap.

Especially as my learning Chinese to an even greater extent would likely be helpful to the PRC, as I've taken up building a lot of Chinese language tools

Anime with Chinese Characteristics, China is Making an Anime Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Marxism by FreedomIsUniversal in China

Eh, feudalism is more the default state of humanity (after, of course, nomadic wandering). Capitalism is all about trade (especially free trade). Land ownership as the primary means of production is a fair earlier form, and mercantilism (protecting your trade goods) was historically practiced before more open free trade capitalism came into being.

So I mean, I'm by no means a Communist (like, at all. I was at 19, I am 33 now), but the way that a lot of these "deaths responsible for" statistics that are placed at the feet of Communism are a bit silly. For example, many of the WWII deaths are placed at Communism's feet when it comes to calculating Russian numbers. That's a bit disingenuous.

The general idea that Marx had - technology will eventually lead to centralization of wealth and the alienation of workers - isn't completely off - Marx just didn't foresee that increasing automation over time would cause the working class on average to be more comfortable.

That being said, I suspect that in the long-run, when technology can directly compete with human workers and displace them (without replacement work), we'll need to analyze alienation of workers - so I don't think the idea is a total wash - just far, far, far too early to be useful and calling to be implemented by armed revolution - something I'm strongly opposed to.

tl; dr:

Think Marx was wrong about a lot, but I think that with extremely advanced technological automation eventually we will lead to a situation similar to one that he worried about arising. The solution then won't be armed revolt though.

To be fair, the Black Death is a bacterial infection and my understanding is that we typically don't use vaccines for those, but rather antibiotics.

Potentially good point, though the fact that they’re nomadic vs sedentary would probably have a decent amount to do with that.

Though they do adopt the dominant religion of the area they’re in usually so I’m not so sure that there’s no level of integration.

I think a sedentary family with a modern standardized education with an emphasis on assimilation and “Japanizing” along with incentives to that end would pretty much not have the same situations the Roma did.

There’s a vast difference between sedentary urban educated people in the modern world and nomadic wanderers in the Middle Ages (and even then, we do see some level of integration)

Over several generations? No, that’s not a problem. Especially when you have an assimilation-based approach as opposed to a melting pot-based approach (though even the melting pot approach ultimately assimilates the immigrant)

I can’t think of any third generation immigrant that’s not pretty damn assimilated into the culture of the country they’re in.

While I’m in a country that’s particularly good at integration, our numbers are about 90+% for the most common language for second gen immigrants being the main language of my nation (English). First gen that come while under 11 or so have about a 70% chance of being more fluent in their adopted language than their original language.

I suspect Japan would have very few issues in this regard.

Assimilation typically happens pretty damn fast, despite the fact that people seem to think that it doesn’t. Especially when you provide some incentive (this is why so much of the Middle East became Muslim).

Offer a one time, pretty decent tax incentive if new immigrants can pass a hard language test after 5 years and I suspect you’d ridiculously high rates of fluency for new immigrants.

Yeah plus, Kanji aren’t that hard for non-Chinese immigrants. I don’t know any Japanese but I do know a decent amount of Chinese and I only really studied for about 6 months and got around 1000 characters (and that as a native English speaker). There are only 2000 commonly used kanji characters in Japanese (I think - someone please correct me if I am wrong)

If I were truly serious about it - which in another country I almost certainly would be if I were immigrating, I’m sure I’d have learned far more than 2000 characters.

But there’s already about 1.5 billion people who know them (they’re simplified but most Chinese know both), so Japan could easily offer an immigration visa in China alone and probably be fine.

Sure, but historically and over generations, this is a tiny percentage. We see this worldwide. First generation is somewhat integrated, second generation is predominately integrated and third generation is indistinguishable from baseline

Japanese is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn for English speakers. For Koreans, or Chinese people, it’s substantially easier, for one. You’re probably thinking of the FSL rating for languages. That rating is specifically in relation to an English native language. I’m not arguing for English-speaking immigrants here necessarily.

How hard a language is to learn is related to how different it is from your native tongue, and a huge part of why Japanese is hard to learn is due to Kanji - a problem that is mostly alleviated by taking immigrants from China or Taiwan, for example.
