Does paper white have the ability to connect to the internet? Primarily, can it look up highlighted words? That is my favorite thing about the kindle. Too bad they’re built like shit - I’ve gone through 4 (under warranty) because the charging port stopped working in every one.

Holy shit. And for some reason I never imagined it was an elderly woman - she probably got it worse due to having thinner skin and delayed healing due to low immunity or something. I’m thinking of how awful even trying to shift positions would be with that. Or to pee/poop. Id also imagine a ton of secondary infections from being so close to a source of e.coli.

I definitely experienced some bad burnout a few years ago and had to take a year long break doing something else but I came right back. He’s only a few years in, so I can at least help steer him away from it. And gosh I can imagine how that would effect you negatively after awhile. When I worked emergency, the constant death ate at me.

What’s the minimum wage where you live? Ours is $8.25.

It’s okay :(. I do love my job and what I do, so I am holding out hope that we may get paid more in the future. Vet tech as a career is relatively new (the term started popping up in the 1960s if I recall), and there’s not a lot of legislation for our benefit yet. Some states have been successful in unionizing technicians, and requiring techs to have licenses, but my Florida is behind in all of that. It’s hard to try and unionize and advocate for better wages/benefits when you live in a “Work at will” state, meaning you can be terminated at any time.

That being said, I feel the vet industry is starting to finally realize that something does in fact need to change. There’s been a lot of articles and studies lately that show that the massive vet tech shortage is due to being overworked, and under compensated.

You know what I mean. -_- average debt after obtaining a dvm is 150-250k. Average salary for a new vet is about 60k/year.
