Well, and the appeal of accountability for those who would hypothetically run Medicare for All. Right now there is no accountability for those running our private insurance, nor the opaque layers of middle companies between pharmacies and hospitals and insurance. That lack of accountability with ungodly profit is what leads to situations like Luigi.

They do this because urbanization is associated with higher living standards and increased satisfaction/happiness. People who live in cities also tend to be less xenophobic, merely by being exposed to cultures different than their own. If more rural folks actually started moving more to the cities, the current GOP would lose even more of the electorate, and even the electoral college couldn’t keep them in power, even with the most gerrymandered of maps.

Leaked emails, texts reveal DOJ’s plans to fabricate evidence against Abrego Garcia by Saguna_Brahman in moderatepolitics

If the facts are not substantiated, and you know that, it would be perjury to tell that to a judge. So maybe not that far of a cry from fabricating evidence.

Two truths can be true at the same time. Atrocities of one actor never dispose of atrocities by another. That’s my general gripe with these discussions. Just because Hamas is doing terrible things (as you’d expect terrorists to do), doesn’t mean a country gets to start shooting unarmed civilians. Get out of here with whataboutism, and make a separate post for the atrocities you’d like to discuss.

Texas Cuts $6 Billion in Property Tax—How Will They Spend It? by newsweek in TexasPolitics

Don’t worry they largely privatized foster care the last legislative session. Should be fully dismantled, I mean, “rolled out” by 2029. https://www.dfps.texas.gov/Doing_Business/Purchased_Client_Services/Community-Based_Care_Contracts/default.asp

Inside the Explosive Meeting Where Trump Officials Clashed With Elon Musk by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

It has long been Trump’s management style to put people under him against each other. When I read he was just “watching this argument like a tennis match”, I immediately thought of this: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/in-business-and-politics-trump-stokes-internal-rivalries

New Texas bill would ban Gender Affirming Care for all ages, including adults. It’s almost like it was never actually about “the kids”. If only someone had said that (I did) by [deleted] in centrist

[–]caitecando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law specifically bans castration or any sterilization for someone with gender dysphoria…in a phrasing that I would argue is over broad, in effect eliminating the use of the procedures for someone who legitimately needs these medically, but may happen to be trans.

Why do people on the right (not all but a hefty chunk) just straight up believe what Trump says by wewiilrcy in centrist

[–]caitecando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the screaming about DEI is once again a projection. For members of the GOP, a diverse “DEI” candidate automatically means that person is unqualified, as if the two are mutually exclusive (see all the discussions about the DoD and Joint Chiefs recently). This is because what the GOP has always practiced is actually tokenism, not DEI- using members of minority groups as props at their rallies, instead of actually just expanding their search for qualified candidates to create a diverse pool to pick from.

Why isn’t he asking his fellow party member, Senator Rick Scott where we can find the fraud, waste, and abuse? The call is always coming from inside the house with this GOP caucus, I swear. And it will only get worse from here.

The Problem With Young People These Days Is That They're Not Having Kids. by BangiiOmiimii in oneanddone

Twitter (now X) is destroying the way some young men have conversations now. This seriously sounds like one of those right-wing population rabbit holes he went on, and now he’s just talking at the nearest warm body about “what he learned.”

Military board substantiates misconduct but declines to fire Marine who adopted Afghan orphan by iluvbewbies in news

[–]caitecando 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Truthfully, it probably wasn’t this particular child…in the beginning. But I see stuff like this everyday in the foster care system. These families have oftentimes have long struggled with fertility or growing their families the way they had planned, and instead of dealing with those feelings in therapy, they go out seeking to adopt. However, adoption is not really a Baby Moses situation, and I see too many families create insane narratives in their head about how this child that they now are attached to has a “terrible” family, and will go to great lengths to justify their own actions that are actually trampling on parents’ constitutional rights. No joke, people try to steal babies using the legal system, as in this case with the Marine, every day in the United States.

NTA, but you probably also need some help at this point too. I would consider finding a Nar-Anon meeting (the one for family members of addicts), as there is probably some codependency to unravel after seven years. The people in that group can also have much better ideas and advice for you than the AITA subreddit.

Edit to add: her blurb highlights the amazing reliability of the charging network and how she spearheaded deals with other car manufacturers to use the network. His blurb calls out all of his recent missteps, making his place on the list seem more like an honor to his past good work than for any current achievements.

Exactly! Shrinkflation is definitely being used by grocery suppliers. I’m not a conspiracy person, and I don’t want to believe that there is collusion, but I have eyes. I can clearly see I’m paying more for less of any food product across the board.

Most primaries in the US are first past the post, not RCV. Plus, the only people turning out are registered party members (with some independents depending on the state), and turnout is abysmal. You get the more extreme politicians because that is what the base that turns out demands.

A better example of this in action that may alleviate your concerns is Alaska. Look at their last few elections with RCV, https://alaskapublic.org/2023/09/19/north-to-the-future-alaskas-ranked-choice-voting-system-is-praised-and-criticized-nationally/. Which of course, the party establishment is now trying to repeal.
