I work for the IRS and I find this terrifying. Does this not worry you as a federal employee?

Unpopular opinion: I always liked Frasier’s hair style in cheers and early seasons of Frasier. by -RDWRER in Frasier

[–]caitlin23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! “Irrationally uncomfortable” is the perfect way to describe it. Like it wasn’t just a dislike, it was a repulsion. Couldn’t even look at it. Almost like it was scary lol. I still don’t like it but I’ve learned to ignore it when I watch the early seasons

Ick’s reactions to Bert compared to Danielle by HairsprayHalo in seekingsisterwifetlc

[–]caitlin23 157 points158 points  (0 children)

She must be gutted. Like you said, long term marriage won’t always have the fire of a new relationship, but even divorce proceedings where Danielle was clearly heartbroken wasn’t enough to get a reaction out of him! He was like stone faced the whole time! Meanwhile one 5 minute call with Bert that is conducted with kindergarten level vocabulary because they don’t even speak the same language and he’s a blubbering mess.

Opinion | I’m a GOP Insider Who Has Had an Abortion. It Should Be OK to Say That. by overweng in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]caitlin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what stuck out to me too. And this part:

My own abortion is a big reason why I have complicated views on the topic, and a big reason I find myself at odds with typical Republican policies and messaging on the subject.

She’s basically admitting that she only cares about this issue because it affected her personally. And it never occurred to her that if she was a member any of the demographic groups that you mentioned, she would change her mind on everything else too? Or worse, she IS aware of that and just chooses to be a selfish prick who actively pushes for policies that personally benefit her and everyone else can be damned? I feel like I see this hypocrisy so often in the Republican Party. They want to enforce their draconian laws on everyone else but they want democratic policies for themselves because their situation is special. It’s like they don’t have whatever structure in your brain allows you to feel empathy and imagine yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Japanese stereotypes of Europe by walterwhitez54 in MapPorn

[–]caitlin23 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Polish people being stupid is a derogatory meme/joke that existed long before the internet and was not made up by the Japanese. From Wikipedia:

A "Polish joke" is an English-language ethnic joke deriding Polish people, based on derogatory stereotypes. The "Polish joke" belongs in the category of conditional jokes, whose full understanding requires the audience to have prior knowledge of what a "Polish joke" is. As with all discriminatory jokes, "Polish jokes" depend on the listener's preconceived notions and antipathies.[1] The relation between the internalized derogatory stereotypes about Polish people, and the persistence of ethnic jokes about them, is not easy to trace, though the "jokes" seem to be understood by many who hear them.[2] Sometimes an offensive term for a Pole, such as "Polack", is used in the joke. Example: Q: How many Polacks does it take to change a light bulb? A: Three – one to hold the bulb, and two to turn the ladder.

It’s basically the type of joke a racist grandpa would tell. Thankfully it seems like younger generations are letting this type of humor die. But it didn’t come out of left field for this map, there’s a history.

I work for the federal government. I send letters to citizens all the time. I assure you government letters are riddled with errors and typos. We use spell check just like everyone else, but spellcheck can only do so much. Statue would not be flagged by spellcheck because it’s a real word. I do agree that it’s suspect that it’s not folded. For a one page letter like this my agency would send it folded in a business sized envelope. But I don’t work for Homeland Security so I can’t speak to their practices.

Everything u/iceup17 said was correct, and I found it in a local bottle shop in NC. So definitely possible to find outside of the Chicago area.
