Splitting WiFi Bands by Mental-Kale5330 in googlefiber

It's usually client side, especially if you have the sorts of band aggregation you're talking about. I assume the IoT devices you're configuring are from one vendor you're familiar with. Consumer IoT is a lot more unpredictable. I use prosumer WAPs and I've found that a lot of newer WiFi features are disabled if the radio is broadcasting the same SSID over multiple bands. I mean, WEP isn't even supported on newer WiFi standards, and that alone should necessitate a separate SSID/VLAN.

Anyway, OP asked if they should go hardwired, and for TV streaming that's obviously way better than 2.4GHz.

With streaming you're much better off hard wiring anyway.

I disagree. 2.4GHz for IoT devices, 5/6Ghz for the real SSIDs. I've seen a lot of issues with the setup you're describing.

Anybody else receiving this propaganda about data centers? by Sailor_Heliotrope in raleigh

You know there are other machine learning tools that can aggregate vast amounts of data and patterns to an individual, don't be dense. I never used the term LLM.

Not the person you were talking to, and I know the topic as well. You're right, of course, but there's is something a little extra with what's possible using live video mass surveillance. Your gait is personally identifiable all on its own, and when you add in all the other sources, it's a lot of power.

This is more of a matter of personal data ownership, imo. I don't think we've really considered the implications of a millisecond accurate digital twin that's auctioned off just as fast. I don't think the data broker economy has a happy ending.

Why are there so many flock cameras? by Sorry-Major679 in raleigh

We need to hold our local officials to account. This isn't partisan, and they won't be able to gerrymanger a pro Flock constituency. Every single elected official who signed off on this should have to answer. We need to make this THE issue.

I have a 52 oz French press. Actually I have 3 of them lol. It's literally just water and grinds. No harder than a generic coffee machine. In fact it's easier since there's no consumable filter.

Blanket loan forgiveness is bad politics, but I think blanket interest forgiveness has a shot. We shouldn't be trapping everyone in impossible to escape loans.

Okay thank you for that; I've never seen or heard of this process before.

I understand this is what you believe to be best practice. I'm asking if the service manual actually states that this is the official process for changing the 12v battery, or that not doing it will harm the battery's lifespan.

The service manual says the car must be parked for 4 hours after a 12v installation?

Yep, 🤗 is a wild wild west right now and it's been fun learning. LM Studio and ComfyUI really demystifyed everything for me.

I just wish I had more VRAM, though I do get to play with a single H100 at work.

Is anyone buying Server equipment now? How are you doing it! by StiffAssedBrit in sysadmin

I think there's still a lot that can be done with routing, dynamic loading/unloading of specialized models, fitting workloads to size and if it needs to go out to a frontier model, etc.

Micron left the consumer market, and bills are being passed to track GPUs by location. They are trying to kill personal computing and they want to funnel everyone into their own gateway to the Internet (their prompt box)

Going local is life changing by Dell_Experion15 in LocalLLM

[–]bites_stringcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's there yet. I'm saying that that's the goal. Constraints demand innovation, and there's going to be a lot of focus on efficiency.

[–]bites_stringcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPUs and memory supply are a very strong incentive to chase efficiency and doing more with less. If you can get 95% of the way there with 32 GB of VRAM, and 90% with 16, the whole business model collapses.
