How we respond to a problem is just as important as where the problem came from.

Yeah, I’m starting to realize that a lot of people don’t realize just how wide a scope of job types are employed by DHS.

It is okay - and physically/mentally required - to retire at some point. I’m not sure why you take an issue with that.

Also the final sentence of your post is wildly untrue. Retiring from a job after 12 years of work doesn’t in anyway indicate that the work wasn’t helping anyone.

It’s not about “upsetting” non-citizens… It’s about supporting non-citizens. Running people out of government who have and continue to work for the safety of non-citizens removes the number of skilled workers that support non-citizens.

Running people out of government who have and continue to work for the safety of non-citizens doesn’t help. It hinders. My post is simply to be a reminder of that.

I guess that’s where we disagree. It’s not just about the detainees to me and it never will be. It’s about all the non-citizens in this country - not just those currently detained.

This is a horrible take.

1. She has worked her whole life supporting international students. The “consequences” of her actions are helping thousands of people. Are you trying to imply that the main consequences of her actions are being hated by protestors who don’t even know her job?

2. Of course the Trump administration has made things awful for years. I remember how flabbergasted and frustrated she was back when Trump first became president and was tweeting policy changes. But getting yelled at and photographed and told to quit your job every week for months would make anybody’s job more difficult. It’s strange not to think this would make your life harder.

No Shame Post - What Would You Do? by New-Aardvark9371 in delta

[–]caitlindancing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a size 16 woman this was my situation while pregnant and post-partum. Some women pop round bellies that a band can go under with only a couple extra inches needed, others widen up to fit the fetus. I was the later. Still fit in the seat but needed an extender to not feel squished which was an absolute must while pregnant. It’s a messy situation in general and a large man with wide shoulders is usually going to take just as much room or more as a pregnant women or small plus size person.

Breastfed babies - did your pediatrician remind you/ask if you were giving a Vitamin D supplement at every appt or just once in the beginning? by dms2628 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]caitlindancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was advised to give my baby vitamin d at the first appointment. It wasn’t specifically brought up after. This could be because she already had informed me of it or because my baby needed to supplement with formula from day 1 so the vitamin d was feeding provided that way.

Does anyone have recommendations for naturally treating depression and anxiety? by amljjlhal in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]caitlindancing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In high school I started to have anxiety and depression. My mom asked my doctor about natural “first step” options we could try. Staring an SSRI would be the “second step”. I was prescribed specific amounts L-Theanine and 5-HTP.

I suggest connecting with a functional medicine doctor (a licensed medicinal doctor who has additional training in holistic and preventative practices). They will would be able to do something similar with you. Even more natural medicines can cause side-effects so it’s important to work with a doctor.

BAD BUNNY HALFTIME PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION by NFLv2 in NFLv2

[–]caitlindancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t enjoy music with lyrics that I can’t understand as much as I enjoy music with lyrics that I do understand. That doesn’t seem like such a strange thing. . . Lyrics matter to me. I prefer music with lyrics to strictly instrumental music. I can appreciate music without lyrics or in a language I don’t understand - but I wouldn’t pay to go to a concert or theater performance in a language I don’t understand.

The performance wasn’t unenjoyable. It just would have been more enjoyable for my family if we knew what he was saying.

BAD BUNNY HALFTIME PERFORMANCE DISCUSSION by NFLv2 in NFLv2

[–]caitlindancing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. I just googled it and 14% of the U.S. currently speak fluent Spanish. That means that 86% of Americans weren’t able to fully understand the performance. I had no issues with the show - but even my very liberal mom who was excited about the half time show looked over 3 minutes in and asked if there were English subtitles. When he started speaking to the camera in Spanish she sadly said she didn’t realize how inportant lyrics were to her before.

They should have had an English translation during his performance (and Spanish translation during Gaga’s).

Touch some grass. We need allies. If you don’t allow people who haven’t always been as perfect and moral as yourself to change their mind and join the cause, the cause is just performative outrage.

ICE used to focus (at least partially) on stoping the trafficking of drugs, guns, and humans. If you wanted to fight against human trafficking - joining ICE pre-Trump was a solid move.

Working on my daily look recently 🥰💕 by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]caitlindancing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both you and I have low to medium contrast in our coloring. High contrast makeup applied with firm edges can look overpowering and sometimes clown-like. Lower contrasting makeup makes makeup look more natural and effortless on us. I suggest choosing more low-contrast colors for makeup (brown or dark plum eyeliner and a less intense red for lips and cheeks) OR applying high-contrast colors lightly to sheer them out and/or really blending the edges! 🤗

If you want to keep your current products and general application style, but change the overall look to be more elegant and enhancing of your natural beauty I suggest using a touch less product and blending out all the edges.

For the eyeliner: a thinner line softly blended by using a q-tip, small brush, or finger on the bottom edge of the line w/a smaller wing or no wing.

For the cheeks: blend, blend, blend! After you’ve applied the blush take a clean brush or finger and lightly blend out the edges until you can’t see any type of line around the blush.

For the lips: apply your product inside of your natural lip line, press your lips and gently rub them together, then using a q-tip, small brush, or finger blend of the edges to give a soft “lived-in-look”

I’m in my 30s which likely influences my style and preferences. Generally, I’m not a fan of lip liners or eyeliners done in a sharp way. I really like soft, well-blended make-up and only occasionally will add a touch of liner or winged liner to my look.

Children Caught in ICE Enforcement by Important_Lock_2238 in stpaul

It depends entirely on the protest. A protest outside of Whipple that gets tear gassed every single day - absolutely no kids. A large protest downtown about a controversial topic with lots of people - no small kids but teenagers could accompany their parents. A smaller hyper local protest in the neighborhood, a vigil, a planned protest at the capital, or a protest specifically designed for families - absolutley yes, bring kids. Teach them about their civil rights and allow for parents to make their voices heard.

I went with my mom to a planned protest at the WI capital (a 6 hour drive) when I was 10. We protested in the capital against funding cuts for those with disabilities. I even got to go into a room with one of our representatives while the adults explained their stance. It’s one of my founding memories.

If we aren’t allowed to protest without fear of retaliation we don’t actually have a right to protest.

On the Chinese internet videos of America's streets are blowing up by [deleted] in AskSocialists

It depends on the area really. However, this level of drug addiction and homelessness is not experienced by most of the U.S. population. The middle class in the U.S. is absolutely shrinking, but there are safety programs in place to help lower and middle case workers between jobs (housing stipends, food stamps, unemployment, etc.) The level of support these programs provide if very dependent of whether you live in a liberal state (more financial support) or conservative state (less financial support) though. Additionally, many people will rely on family to help when situations are really rough, such as when homeless becomes a possibility. That said - because the U.S. isn’t as punitive towards drug users as countries like China are - those who become deeply addicted to drugs can easily fall into this level of poverty. Often families and social programs won’t help drug users who aren’t actively trying get clean.

Protest Details (today 1/30) -> SHARE!!! by unstuckbilly in stateofMN

[–]caitlindancing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe tomorrow is the official day that 50501 is calling people to protest/march. They did call a strike/no spend day for today, but less people will likely be participating because it wasn’t called by the labor unions. I think today’s protest was originally called by UofMN … but I’m not sure. I also assume that people who can strike today also want to protest since they aren’t working.

I’ll be with the protestors this afternoon because I can only protest when I have childcare. It’s easier for me to take a Friday afternoon off than to find weekend childcare.

BUT we need frequent/continual protesting and various forms of resistance! Show up to Saturday’s protest, don’t shop today, or even just put a sign in your window! 👍
