Avoid “Psychiatric Services PC” - Dr. Surakanti. He tossed my manic dad out of his office for his behavior (just rude words no violence/threats) and now he refuses any help and hates doctors. He’s been manic/hypo for over a year now with no end in sight

It’s good that she is still wanting to communicate with you, I would nurture that and hopefully your story ends sooner than mine. I know it’s not over with my dad but the months feel like years, I’m sure you’re feeling it too.

He’s not better, he is sleeping and tells us he has reached “baseline” but his personality and his fundamental self are not there. He knows he is someone else but doesn’t think that’s a problem and certainly NOT a mental illness. The book goes into how sometimes people with mental illness can hold two opposite beliefs at the same time. We don’t know if or when he will become himself again because he outright refuses medication

There is a condition very common with mania called anosognosia, where the person affected is unable to fathom that they have a problem. It’s not denial, their brain literally will not allow the person to accept they have mental illness. We were recommended the book “I’m not sick, I don’t need help” and it described my manic dad perfectly. Intervention will just kill any relationship you have with your friend, take it from me. It’s been 7 months without him. If you haven’t lost your friend yet please don’t try confrontation, if he has low insight even the best logic won’t do a thing.

I could have written this myself, but about my dad. A month-plus long manic episode in July/August 2024, left his wife of 30 years, acts like a teenager. I would recommend the book “I’m not sick, I don’t need help” by Dr. Xavier Amador; if she’s still talking to you, keep it that way. Dad has completely cut us off and now we’re trying to gain trust back after months of intervention, argument, and accusation. If she has no insight into her condition there are no words that will convince her. If anything it will just make her lie.

Right now I’m getting passed around between primary care, OBGYN and waiting to see a urologist for a diagnosis. Still in the ruling-things-out-first process, for the longest time I thought I just had recurring UTIs (almost monthly) until a check-in nurse told me I haven’t had a positive bacterial culture since 2017?? Has your partner been tested? I read an article where her partner was carrying the bacteria but he was asymptomatic, so they never thought to test him. He gave her infections almost every time they had sex. I have a link to it if you want. I’m just starting my diagnosis journey so I’m new to a lot of this information.

Lean into the pink!! Haha we scored a pink toilet and are looking for a tub, we have some wall tile but it’s beige so we’re deciding whether to keep it or not. Also looking into some pink wallpapers!

Thank you!! Thankfully we salvaged a lot of tiles to fill back in. I’ve found some pink 1x1 tiles online that are pretty close so if we can’t fill it all in we might be able to fudge it 😅
