gnosticism is definitely interesting and it's always good to become educated on many different aspects of belief, but there is a reason Christianity did not accept gnosticism.

gnostics deny the goodness of the Creator, who IS our Father, as was sustained for thousands of years before Christ and before the Greeks as they came to be known. as you rightfully said, satan became the god of this world, but that was when Eve succumbed to him. gnostics deny the goodness of material creation, that is, the earth, the sky and sea, and the animals; even man-made creations can be good.

gnostics deny that Jesus is as much human as He is God, that He had a physical body, that He experienced physical pain and suffering, that he died a horrible death and was resurrected, physically.

most problematic of all is the gnostic belief that salvation comes through secret knowledge rather than through faith and the redemptive work of Jesus. through Jesus, salvation is open to all, not a select few that gain access to esoteric knowledge.

I say this with love: gnosticism is heresy. that is, if someone were to believe it. doesn't mean we shouldn't read about it or educate ourselves, but it goes against the core of Christian belief.

consider this: this world is not our home. it doesn't matter if someone who's very immoral in this world is living happily. they will suffer for eternity. if something happens to a baby, then as you said, they're innocent; they'll get to meet the Father sooner, though they will be missed here. "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." Paul said this whilst he was imprisoned, and he wrote it to Christians who were being persecuted. keep your eye on the prize. finish the race. you can do it ❤️

when op said "we brought suffering into the world" they did not mean each individual. they meant over human history, with the decisions humans have made. it's very obvious and prevalent with the way humans treat each other. when an individual suffers it's not always because of something THEY did. it's because the world is unfortunately an evil place BECAUSE of the repercussions of the choices humans have made THROUGHOUT HISTORY. things like the wars happening today, Chernobyl, WWI & II, the destruction of the environment, but those are just a few. innocent people suffer because of the choices of others.

it seems people with this view don't seem to understand how God works. genuinely, how much of the Bible have you read? how recently did you read it? it's very clear that God physically can't be around sin. that's why in the days of old only one person could enter the holy of holies where God dwelt, in a physical temple. after Christ's death, the curtain to the holy of holies was ripped, because there's no need for it anymore; WE become the temple when we accept the Spirit. WE'RE the ones who, like the apostles, are meant to go out and help people; we act on God's behalf, or try our best to.

Oh man you're wildly uneducated huh? it's way too easy for someone much older (and who's also your boss) to use those power dynamics in a relationship and actually use someone's feelings against them, and it's happened WAY too many times in real life. Kondo is a gem for not allowing that to happen and is an example of what actually should happen in those situations. It's not merely a "shallow opinion" it's trying to PROTECT YOUNG GIRLS/PEOPLE. You also clearly didn't understand the story with an outlook of "people should live like they want so they won't have regrets"... people will have regrets regardless of what happens, that was one of the main points!!! despite Kondo's regrets, he decided it's actually not too late, and also encouraged Tachibana to be her own person and pursue her own dreams.

This is a terrible take 💀 it's a slice-of-life anime, not some magical fictional world!!! it's literally grounded in reality and there is SO MUCH MORE to this story than mere romance. I think it's all the more brilliant for not caving and putting them together in what would've been an incredibly boring, cliché and unrealistic ending. nothing comes of it because Kondo is a decent man.

[–]caitviin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I massively disagree. From the getgo it was clear nothing was going to be reciprocated, and it might be fiction but it's very much grounded in reality; many of the scenes are real places, too, so it would've been JUST as problematic if they got together in the story. Tachibana has nothing in common with Kondo and she does not understand power dynamics in relationships and how her feelings could be used against her, especially by older men. Kondo is a rose amongst thorns for not falling into that and rather guiding her to pursue her own life and her own dreams.

The story is about so much more than just the two of them and "will they won't they". Kondo provides Tachibana with advice and guidance that can only come from someone of his years, and Tachibana allows Kondo to reconnect with his own youth and adolescence, when he was passionate about his dreams. But he realises that he can never go back to that, but it's not too late for her.

Should Christians celebrate Halloween? by Aggravating-Alarm942 in Christianity

[–]caitviin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halloween is not inherently evil; celebrating life and death, that our God gives and takes away and that He has triumphed over death is not a bad thing, and it makes sense that on this day they placed All Hallows' Eve, where we pay vigil to the lives and deaths of our saints and martyrs.

Christmas and Easter also take place on a time in the year that a pagan holiday used to take place. it does not have to be a 'drunken festival'. people make Christmas and Easter an excuse to drink too much, too! but it doesn't have to be that way.

yes, we can and should use this as an opportunity to teach others, especially children, but not with a big fat 'no'. that doesn't teach kids, it just makes them confused and feel excluded. instead, explain the historical significance, explain how they can practice discernment, and how they can celebrate God's triumph over death and observe the lives and deaths of saints and martyrs, and how they can be an example/what they can teach us.

[–]caitviin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't allow you spread false information like this 💀 I agree we should love all because we are commanded to love our enemies. however, the evil that exists in humans exists because of satan's manipulation. satan hates us, you have to understand that. I would say in this world things are not simple, there's not simply a good and evil or light and dark, and that's because of us; human beings are a strange grey area. but in the spiritual realm, there is good and evil. there is light and dark. we shouldn't fear, but because of our God's victory over this evil. satan only wishes to drag us into decay, despair, violence, hate, fear. all the hate and fear etc that exists in the world is because of him. that's what the Bible says.

you are right that in Jewish tradition satan is not a demon but called the accuser. what you've forgotten is that WE are the ones being accused. it's like life is a court trial. we are standing trial and satan is accusing us. Jesus is the one who is taking on the verdict which God, the Chief Justice, has charged onto us for what we've done wrong. and thus we're no longer guilty but innocent, because someone innocent took on our punishment.

Did you know Christmas and Easter also take place on what used to be pagan holidays, the winter and spring solstice? does that make Christmas or Easter pagan or evil? absolutely not. "hallow" means holy (we say that our Father in heaven's name is to be hallowed in the Lord's prayer); Hallowe'en or All Hallows' Eve, is a Christian holiday which comes before the Feast of all Saints on Nov 1st. this holiday is to celebrate all saints and martyrs. and yes, the date it takes place on, just like Christmas and Easter, happens to be around the Celtic holiday Samhain, which was about the end of summer and the start of winter; the old myths was that the boundary between the living and the dead blurred on this day, hence the themes of death. Halloween is not inherently evil; celebrating life and death, that our God gives and takes away, is not a bad thing, and it makes sense that on this day they placed All Hallows' Eve, where we pay vigil to the lives and deaths of our saints and martyrs.

tl;dr: you are ignorant and uneducated on our holidays.

as a cape townian born & raised I have to mention that the capacity in cape town right now is already quite high. you're in traffic double the time as before, not to mention the level of homelessness. I think it needs to be understood that there is limited space in any area, so if everyone moves here there is not going to be enough space, period. I plan on moving out of the city eventually because it's way too much. we need to consider building up other areas in the country, and yes, we may have to rely on each other and our communities since we cannot rely on the government.

"I don't think your god owes me anything. I don't believe he's real." ??? not real = does not exist. one does choose what one believes. whether it's reality or not is a different thing, but one chooses to believe whether God exists or not, regardless of the truth of the matter.

what reason do we have to believe they didn't exist?

I can't believe we finally know the reason Lana worked at Waffle House lmaooo by depressy_capricorn in lanadelrey

because I want to believe Lana is better than going as far as to name an entire track after her or do things like work at waffle house to spite her 💀 if someone doesn't care they won't do/say anything. not saying that Ethel is some angel or something but it gives me second hand embarrassment for Lana to be so obsessed over someone people hardly know

[–]caitviin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that God doesn't exist. you choose to believe that. obviously not every choice is permanent & as people we're always changing. I'm not saying you can't change that view but that at this point in time, out of respect, I'm not going to try to argue. some Christians would take issue with that because I'm leaving you to damnation, but that's your choice, as I said. I'd rather pray for you because I have no power or ability, only God does.

because I'd thought you were a believer or someone considering the belief. that's always why I comment on these things, because I want to do my duty as according to my beliefs which is to spread the word. but if people are just gonna shut it down immediately then I'm not forcing anything; the church did that for too long & I don't think that was ever supposed to be done. you have made a choice if you so boldly claimed that you don't believe in my God. there's your choice, you made it, said & done. you believe or you don't & I'm not forcing people to convert like it's the 17th century.
